QUOTE(World Dreamer @ Nov 16 2011, 6:42 pm) *

Bashing CCP does happen. In fact, it has been pretty rampant recently regarding their failure to deliver on things they said they would do. The last few weeks there has been more criticism towards CCP than Ed.

This is turning into the Twilight Zone. It is like no one noticed that Ed wants nothing to do with Live (except sing their songs and use the name) after he 1) became a hip swiveling diva and 2) felt entitled to more money than his friends and ultimately stabbed them in the back. Note I said friends. Not band members. This is Live. This isn't some band thrown together by a record company with a lead guitarist that looks cool and a drummer with cool hair. These are the boys from York. They aren't "other bands".

Now everyone is pissy because of a possible new lead singer that isn't Ed. Guess what? Ed isn't Ed either. At least not the Ed from TC era, so either way, we aren't getting Ed back unless Ed decides to take off his skirt and pick up an electric guitar. But it doesn't look like that is going to happen. So CCP, the majority of Live, are trying to carry on.

Are CCP using the name of Live to make money and gain name recognition? Probably. Even if they weren't they will get it anyway. They own the name of Live. They can do that.

And the door to Ed was open until Ed shut it. Remember that.

Agreed. I really don't get all the bitterness thrown their way. They're doing the best they know how with a screwed up situation. All these armchair quarterbacks throwing their two cents in about how it's not Live unless this or that. If it was my band I'd just say fuck off, go focus on your own life. Because that's what were talking about here, not just a band but peoples lives. I mean, what the fuck are they supposed to do? They catered to Ed's every wish to keep the band together until it wasn't enough. He has clearly stated that the break up of Live is solely due to his wanting to go solo. Plainly stated in interviews, right there for anyone to hear. So I don't get the problem with them trying to move forward in their lives.

I just read the thread and obituary posted in the off topic zone about the loss of a Live fan named Katie. So sad. Such a beautiful young lady. All of this nonsense seems kind of meaningless now.

Ed had started to writing bad songs and shut the door for Live. If Ed continue with CCP, Live will record the album Alive. Because CCP always perform Ed's songs for Live albums. Who wants to listen the album Alive from Live??!!! Please read the forum on Ed's solo album. Every person who is in this forum wrote bad things about Alive. But now, everybody saying "We dont want a new singer for Live". I cant understand this! Today, Ed performs the worst of his career. He's an ordinary pop-rock singer for last 6-7 years. But you saying "We want Ed". No, we want old Live and 90's era, 90's souls again and again. The date is 2011. It's finished. It's all. Every Live fan wants old record from Chad Taylor. Because all fans want to feel 90's soul and they know they can feel this again in old songs. Today Ed is useless for CCP. They go on their way. I'm happy for CPP and new band wont be Live but Im sure this ll be a good band like TFG. nod.gif

Indeed.

I from the get go do not understand how this stupid clip is creating such drama here. I really don't know what to think of it.

I did. If their goal with new LIVE is to imitate Ed's voice on a studio track, they did an okay job of it. However, I personally believe that trying to fool fans with an Ed knockoff isn't going to work in the short or long term.

What did you think of the actual song, the music and the person singing? Sounds pretty damn fucking awesome!!! Why do you surmise that the person singing sang to a recording of STD?

Well we shouldn't need a death to remind us how meaningless whoever the singer of Live is (to the fans). It's all rather arbitrary and imaginary anyway. Each and every one of us will hear and interpret what Live means to us in our own way. However, it means something totally different to those that are creating the music and living it every day. To them it really is their lives. It puts food on their table, it provides them career and artistic fulfillment. Every thing they do is affected by their band. Their families, finances, etc. So who am I or anyone else to say Live is this or that. That's up to them. Considering they are the ones that provided such meaningful music to so many, I'll leave that judgement up to them. They've earned that right, at least from me.

QUOTE(Arizona_Skies @ Nov 16 2011, 5:07 pm) *

My point was more about the idea that these bands are still out there hustling. New music, sold-out tours, etc... And the younger generation, the ones who buy at least 75% of concert tickets, don't really know LIVE. It's a damn shame.

Now, what do we get from LIVE? Gimmicks and blurry facebook posts. Who cares about the new singer, IF there is a new singer? He ain't gonna replace Ed, so LIVE better have something brilliant up their sleeves.

Your assertion was that the "Live train" was coming to an end, because they were not hustling like other alt rock acts. Live won't fail due to lack of hustle. Chad is a motherfucking hustler first, guitarist second. Live might fail for other reasons, such as how casual fans might not accept a replacement for Ed. We'll see.

But I was mainly just commenting on your description of these other bands and how they hustle. These venues for 3EB and SP shows are really tiny, doesn't mean much to sell them out.

Your understanding of the youth's recognition of other alt acts is based on a sample of 3 other bands, from a pool of your hot co-workers. I can only imagine that is a tiny number to survey. Not to mention one of them knew Live! And recognized lightning crashes. Not much veracity in these stats toward your assertion. You're saying 75% all concert tickets are bought by "the younger generation." What ages are that, and where do you get 75% from? And you're talking all concerts? Still, I agree most people do not know Live.

But I don't know that this is due to a lack of Live's hustle. They were broken up, litigating, pursuing other projects, and are still re-forming. That's why they don't have much more than FB posts right now. Aside from which, they're fitting the model pattern that you described for the other alt rock acts: disappearing and then becoming re-discovered. So I don't know how you see anything wrong with where Live are at right now, in the disappearing stage. What were these other bands doing when they disappeared that was so much better than Live's disappearance?

But yes, like you suggest, 90's alt rock backs these days had better be awesome if they want to stay in the limelight.

This is 100% correct. Great post nick. Let's clear a few things up: to the casual fan, the ONLY member of Live they know is Ed. How can everyone overlook that? CCP needs Ed. Ed needs CCP.

The door to Ed will ALWAYS be open. It has to be. They were a more successful band with him. The person who posted that CCP had many unsuccessful years with Ed is completely wrong. They made a lot of money in the last decade touring with Ed. If CCP didn't care about financial success, they why are they still using the name Live? This board seem to buy everything CCP is selling, it's crazy.

You think they're pining away for ed to come back and cash in??? Get real. They don't need him, they don't need Live to survive, but I love the double standards displayed here.

Arizona, you've become one of the negative nellies here now. Why? It's okay to support the Ed fan, who clearly is on record of being a ed fan and not a real Live fan. It's okay...you have good posts but all this wishy washy flip flopping everyone is doing is quite downright funny.

Enjoy the clip, can't wait for the next one.

Sad to see that story, really It does put it in perspective. Was she sick, or a tragic passing? Prayers to her family and those who knew her.

Is LIVE washed up, too? Because they haven't put out new shit in a long time.

Paradiso - end of 2008, 2 albums from projects in between, two tours, two SS bootleg tracks. The members have been doing something- at least they're not washed up due to not doing new things.

So if it is Ed, it's cool but if not then it's just some lame impersonator or karaoke singer? Doesn't even make sense.

If you like how it sounds and think it's Ed, but dislike the same clip because you find out it's not Ed does not make sense to me. But I'm a damn hippie so it must be the weed.
