I don't know if everybody has seen this. from CT facebook comments:

"Patrick Kennedy - It's not going to be LIVE without Ed. Doesn't matter if they own the name or not."

"Chad Taylor - I can't wait to see Patrick's face when the new LIVE drops like a carpet bomb all over his "all knowing" ears."

"Chad Gracey - According to Patricks way of thinking we should all sell our apple stock and throw away our, iPhones, iPads and Macs because SJ is gone and I guess everyone at Apple should just melt away and do nothing now. The DRIVING FORCE? That just tells me you know absolutely nothing about our band. CG"

Ned's interpretation:

Ed is to +Live+ what Steve Jobs was to Apple!

These alt bands are washed up as far as putting out new material, even though they might still have some kick left when they play live.

SP has a new album coming out in March called Oceania. According to Billy, it has been really well-received by music industry folks, so he's giving it a proper release with full promotion and marketing. 3EB is also in the studio working on a new album, and Bush's new stuff is surprisingly good.

Is LIVE washed up, too? Because they haven't put out new shit in a long time.

holy cow people, bash bash bash
no wonder this planet is so F'd!
amazing how some people do not want a new singer ??
its Ed or no one.
for Christ's sake
it seems Ed has moved on(no disrespect for Mr K. BOL!)
why should 3 guys who formed the fukin band to begin with
just lay down and die, not carry on what they set out to do and prove they have great material left
when they are all still young, talented, hard working, down to earth guys??
this is the NEW +LIVE+, maybe a new singer???, maybe we will never know until a show??
a small 20 second video has certainly created a stir amongst its "so called" fans
thats a good buzz, watch out when we really hear some new material or some news
the NET will be on fire
BOL to C,C and P thumbsup.gif

It sounds like some dude trying to sound like Ed. And now the other guys in the band are all giddy that they have someone that sounds like Ed. Meanwhile, Ed's too busy with his Bible study to give a damn.

I would like to take this off topic for a minute and say something.

I heard Cris Cornell on Howard Stern this morning and he talked about what the song Imagine by John Lennon meant to him. Imagine no religions. Imagine no countries. It is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And the point of the lyrics is to imagine what it would be like if we did not have any of the constructs that divide us and we could all just live as one.

Ed sings that song in concert. Ed wrote the lyrics to Mental Jewelry and Throwing Copper. This is the thing that kills me about Ed of 2011. The thing that I just can never get over. And I thought of it this morning when I listened to the Chris Cornell interview. Ed is now a bible thumping religous zealot. Regardless of the virtues of Christianity, the identification with that religion, or any religion, is one o fthe primary things that divides us. And division leads to seperation. Seperation leads to judgment, and hatred and misunderstanding. It is the opposite of the beautiful philosophy that Ed and so many other great artists and philosophers and geniouses have realized. How does one who realized that at one time unrealize it?!?! It is not wrong to have a religion. It is not wrong for Ed to be a Christian. But by writing every song lyric about it. Talkiing about it n interviews and Christian blog sites. And essentially prostelitizing it - Ed creates divisions.

I'm telling you, discovering that the artist who emobodied the meaning of the song Imagine now prostelitizes a religion among those most responsible for division, seperation and judgment hit me hard. The one artist in whom I placed so much confidence to inspire me along the climb of the spiritual mountain has pulled the stakes and climb-rope away from me and did a free-base jump off the mountain. And I am looking down at him in free-fall thinking WTF just happened?!?!

I'm sorry. I just can't get over it.

SP - Zeitgeist and Teargarden blow ass. Can't listen to what Billy says about how the industry interprets his new crap.

3EB - URSA Major blows ass.

New Bush - a couple good songs on the album.

TGF Good - New Live, good chance of being good. Appeal to the youth? Hard to say.

I agree with this. And to expand on it, and I think I mentioned it earlier, if Ed was still the lead singer and this was the end of the "hiatus", Live would still struggle to appeal to anyone but the current fan base.

It is just hard to restart a band. You either stay on top or you drop and spend the rest of your career trying to get back to the top. It is really difficult. The industry moves so fast that any downtime can really hurt your band.

With that said, I think it will be ridiculous should someone claim new Live failed (if they don't have that chart topping album) because there was no Ed this time around. Live failed with Ed for years upon years and through several albums. If they don't blow up the charts with a new album and new lead singer it isn't because of Ed not being there. Just want to make that clear.

And I am wondering if new Live happens to be great will they want to bring Ed back or will they stick with the new lead singer?

Agreed. I can't understand how someone who wrote an album inspired by Krishnamurti's texts, could be in the spot he is right now.

Because going christian-rock dumbs it down and helps him make a profit.

New LIVE will fail because the majority of fans who would like to attend a LIVE concert, will expect to see Ed fronting the band. Mostbands go through multiple lineup changes during the course of their careers, but very few go through lead singer changes. There is a reason for that.

LIVE was a profitable and successful touring act throughout their entire run. I saw them play 45 times from 2000-2009, and they almost always filled whatever venue they played in. Not many bands can say that. The albums may not have been successful in the 2000's, but touring was always strong for LIVE.

Unless the new singer brings LIVE back to Throwing Copper levels of success(not happening), the door for an Ed return will always be cracked open.

Assuming the video was a new singer, most people won't know it's not the original singer for Live.

I agree that even though Live was a band of yesteryear, the filled most of the smaller venues up, but 95%, if not more, of the people in attendance weren't die hard fans and likely couldn't even name the lead singer. He's just the bald guy that sang Lightning Crashes.

It's the same reason he can do shows with his backing band and most people don't know the difference. Ed is the more recognizable of the 4, don't get me wrong, but he's not Billy Corgan or Chris Cornell.

I disagree. The "majority of fans" won't expect to see Ed. Fan is short for fanatic. Green Bay fans don't show up to a game and say "I thought Brent Faver was the QB for the Packers?". Someone who doesn't know anything about the Packers says that. Someone who isn't a fan.

If they don't care enough to follow the band and to know what happened then they don't care enough to know who Ed is and/or they won't care that there is a different lead singer.

The only people that will be surprised by Ed not being there are ones that liked Lightning Crashes and remember a bald guy that looks like Andre Agassi from the I Alone video. I doubt they will care that much either.

Will there be a few stragglers that are confused? Maybe. There were probably some that were confused when Perry wasn't singing for Journey but halfway through Faithfully it didn't matter.
