I believe it is not Ed, based on who says that it is not Ed. That excites me. And it is no coicidence that they used an old school photo of Live fans for the video. If you look at their face book photos, it is an homage to York, Puiblic Affection, and the early days of the band. If you tie that to the statements Chad made about them reconnecting to their roots, and the rumors about re-recording old tracks and practicing only the really great songs from TDTH and before, you start to see a theme that has to excite any Live fan out there. These guys are letting it all go and taking it all back again.

It may work on a studio recording, but I seriously doubt that an Ed impersonator will be accepted at an actual "LIVE" concert.

I think it could go either way. Some bands do fine doing this and others don't.

In all honesty, if the hiatus was just that, a 2 year break, and they all came back refreshed and ready to rock like they used to they would still struggle to gain any traction.

Translation: Nick won't be going to any Live concerts.

If Ed is not in Live but is singing Live songs, would that make him and his band Live impersonators?

And if Live releases a new album would the new lead singer still be an impersonator when singing his own songs? Or would he toggle on and off as an Ed impersonator throughout the show?

But they still would be a successful touring act, in the same vain as Bush, Collective Soul, and numerous other 90's acts.

Bush actually just released a #1 single in the Alternative format, yet their new album hasn't sold many copies. It is all about touring now.

Sounds like Ed to me. Do we need a singer that sounds like the old one?

IMO, that is definitely Ed from an old bootleg. I think if that clip had been randomly posted on this board (i.e. and not by the band on their Facebook page so as to invite speculation) I don't think anyone would have even thought to question who the singer was.

I really don't think that's anyone other than Ed.

EDIT** After listening a few more times, I really think the folks who think that isn't Ed are engaging in wishful thinking. I hear nothing about that that doesn't scream Ed, its probably a live recording but it sounds like Ed to me.

If its not Ed, well I'll be damned and maybe Live will still sound like Live.

Just think about it. Why would they post a FB update of some random bootleg of STD labeled Nov 14, 2011 3:39pm?

We know the guys are in the studio working on new material with the new singer

If this was an old Live clip whoever posted it would have said something to the effect of "Back in the day..." or "Clip from an early concert in 94".

At first I thought it was Ed... then I listened to it again... and again...

In my opinion this is not Ed. And I hear passion in this new singers voice. Something that I have not heard from Ed in years. Plus there is no falsetto either!! banana.gif

The way I see it...if that IS Ed then it is a cruel joke on fans.

It's like saying "We have time to dig up and post old audio of Ed and do some effects on this old picture but we can't get the website up or post anything else."

I hope that isn't what happened.

It's Ed.

Selling the Drama is my favorite Live song of all time. I've listened to tons of versions thousands of times.

It's not Ed. Just listen to the inflection in the voice.

When the band makes the statement that this is "the new Live" you can bow down to my ability to catch this when you couldn't!

Seriously - just listen and if you can't hear that's not Ed you must be getting old! eyebrow.gif

This kind of debate/anticipation, to me, isn't fun. It's just infuriating. I'd be far more excited for the future project if I knew the answer - either way. This doesn't keep me in eager suspense, it just annoys me and pushes me further away. I don't want to be teased this way. sad.gif
