If you're gonna have LIVE without Ed then you need to have someone who sounds like Ed to belt out all of their best songs. If the guy can remain an individual and come up with some killer new tracks - written by him or collectively then I haven't got a problem with that. Take AC/DC as an example. Brian Johnson can sound similar to Bon Scott or at least carry those older songs but he's still his own person and he has his own individuality in a band that lost their lead singer.

If you're not interested, then go listen to the Gracious Few. Because we all know how well that worked out...

Yeah, one of my favorite damn albums of the last 10 years, what of it?

This is a matter of taste. I prefer groups who have taken a chance when in this situation, see: Van Halen, Genesis, etc.. Leave the soundalikes to the legacy bands like Journey. If that's what Live has decided to be, count me out.

Also, I would find it to be disrespectful to Ed and what he did for the band.

Do we have any idea what the recording even IS? My first thought was an early demo of STD that we had never heard before.

agreed----having the band named live with a lead singer who sings like ed but isnt actually ed sounds like a bad dream to me...open to liking the new stuff, but dont like the sounds of this (if that recording isnt ed)

Yeah just to clarify, I'd check out the new album too. I'd be a lot less excited about it though.

I will just say this. Assume that hypothetically this is a new recording by Live with a new lead singer, who can obviously sing this song in a way that sounds like Ed. That recording sounds better than Ed playing that song with his back-up band of session musicians. I would rather hear and see CCP and that lead singer play that song than Ed play that song with his "rock'in" band.

Listen to that recording again. Everyone is listening to it, focused on the lead singer's voice. But listen to it again and focus on the guitars and drums. Go do it right now and then come back...

Nice, huh? Do you hear the beating that Gracey is giving to those skins? Do you hear that wailing that Chad Taylor is doing on the guitar, with that part at the end? That is a tight group of musicians who created this masterpiece and have been playing it together for 20 years. THAT is what Live sounds like. That is why, for all the attempts to take credit for everything Live did, Ed is not Live. And with a new lead singer that sounds like this (again hypothetically) then I say to you that new Live is more Live than Ed and his band. It is carrying on the Legacy of Live.

I think much of it will ride on the personaility and presence of the whoever this lead singer is. He doesn't have to be an Ed impersonator. But for it to work, he has to be someone that we can all gravitate to. I wish it was Adam Kowalczyk. He is probably the one person that I know, sitting here today, that I could accept immediately upon introduction without any questions asked.

Will new Live be enough Live for you... or you... or you? Everyone will have their own answer to that question.

kudos my brother for another "keepin it real" post from FOW!
Adam?? that would be cool, but highly unlikely, was just thinking how he should be some HUGE rock star by now! rockin.gif
if that is a new singer on that song, it had me stumped shrug.gif

My vote is that is Ed. There are lots of outtakes out there, which we know are Ed, but don't sound like him. But since the STD recording isn't labeled, there is speculation.

The only thing that would make me say "no", is that it seems like a slap in the face to the new lead singer. Why post old material, when we (CCP + new guy) are making new music together.

Agreed. The finally threw us a bone and I got chills listening to the clip. Little nuggets like this will help hold us over until they are ready with the finished product. If Out to Dry says that it's not Ed then I really think we have to believe him.
