December 31 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Mental Jewelry.

1991 was a big year in music: Nirvana released "Nevermind", Pearl Jam released "Ten", Smashing Pumpkins released "Gish" and U2 released "Achtung Baby".

Each of these albums have been re-issued this year. Most with with b-sides, unreleased live tracks, bonus material, remastering of the original tracks, bonus material, vinyl releases and unreleased video.

What's it going to take for Mental Jewelry to get the same treatment? Sure, it wasn't as big as Throwing Copper but it does mark the beginning of a very successful decade and it deserves to be commemorated.

I remember owning all of those albums... on tape. Man how times have changed. How many times has Ten been re-released now?

As for Live, I don't think we will see anything until the 20 years of Throwing Copper. I think the boys could get distribution and enough of a ball rolling for bonus tracks that we could see a special collection there. Whether they will try or not is really the question.

I agree that Theowng Copper is the way to go. Maybe even a proper reunion tour where they play the album in its entirety in 2014. One can dream.

I'd be very surprised if anything special was done to mark MJ's release on a wider than super-totally-fanbase-niche basis.

Any kind of release (MJ or TC) that includes any type of extra material will 1) be announced with great enthusiasm and then 2) never happen.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Does MJ really need any of that stuff though? The best tribute would be to stick it on, listen to it as it always has been and always will be, and enjoy thumbsup.gif

But we can commemorate it on the board by swapping stories. Did anybody here get it on the day of release, 31st December 1991? What do you remember? Unfortunately back then I was four years old, and remember nothing.

I picked up my MJ CD ~March 1992. I was introduced to them on spring break in Panama City Beach that year. I still have the giant cardboard box for it that they used to use to package/display CD's. Ah, memories!

Agree...
But do we really need a remastring?

I don't think so, but a deluxe version with Hold Me Up and Susquehanna, and a DVD of MTV Unplugged? That would be totally awesome.

It'll never happen.

It should happen!

I wonder if there were any Unplugged tracks that didn't make MTV like STP had.
