Zion is an overtly Christian song. They all are on Alive. It takes all the mystery and fun out of it and reduces these songs to mission-styled, doctrinal preaching points. I don't like that. If Zion was a song about discovering "the one" in a desert, while getting fellatio in front of a fish on the banks of a river at the moment the world ends - then it might be something...

What has taken the mystery and fun out of his music is the LSD that he's been infected by. I really don't think it has anything to do with what he's singing about other than, because of the LSD, it just comes off as inauthentic, opportunistic, and formulaic.

I'd take this over anything on Alive, including Zion:

Zion is by far the best song on the album

When Ed reunites with LIVE, this is the one song he's allowed to bring with him.

Wow, did you actually put "talent" in quotations? You make him sound like Sammy Hagar. Who do you think wrote the lyrics for Live's best songs? He's definitely lost his way, but to question whether he has talent or not is ridiculous.

If a miracle happened, and he walked on stage right now with CCP, don't you think he could rock it?

I put talent in quotations because I couldn't think of a better word. But "whatever" (talent, skill, passion, creativity etc) Ed had it is gone. That was my point.

And it isn't just because his subject matter changed. It isn't because he is Christian. What he is writing now is flat out bland. The old Ed could write about a bucket of shit and make it seem mystical.

And if he suddenly joined Live could he rock it? I hope. But until he tries there is no way to know for sure. And even if he could get up there and crush Stage it doesn't mean he could put pen to paper like he used to.

Agreed. Except for Zion - which has the spark of old Ed. It's awful that we'll probably never get to hear the original lineup of Live again. It would have been cool to hear them in 2011, re-committed to making powerful music again as a band. They're still relatively young guys, and they could be making music for the next two decades or more. Too bad they won't be doing it together.

I live in Los Angeles and Ojai is a beautiful place. Can you imagine CCP making the trip to write new music with Ed? Focused on nothing except the mountain air, the smell of the Pacific, and creating an album that kicks ass?

I'm not a fan of U2, but I admire them for keeping the band intact all these years. Whatever agreement they made as teenagers (financial and creative) has worked for them all these years. Why the fuck can't Ed work it out with CCP?

I guess the whole point of this post was to acknowledge Ed's singing and songwriting. And to thank him for what he brought to Live. I can't wait to hear Live 2.0, but Ed's vocals can never be replaced.

Yep, Jimmy could school any rock drummer out there.
