I came across this some time ago but found it again. I think this is one of his top solo performances of the song.

I still love the Paradiso performance.

First comment had 10 thumbs up....wow

"wow. This guy is way underated. an amazing Talent. Live songwriting actually got better as they have released albums and shed some of the grunge feel that had in the mid-period. Simply amazing singer/songwriter it is a shame the music industry lifespan is so short, industrys spit things at us and pull them away. Cash Now rather than cash Cow. Thank God we all have ears and brains and can find the music we like regardless of industry trends. Simply fabulous!

this is one of my least favorite songs, probably because of the emotions it stirs up... but this is a very nice performance.
I also like the Paradiso show.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, even if they are ill-informed. Grunge? I guess a distortion stomp box made everyone a "grunge" band back then...

Must admit that, whilst a good performance in a nice setting... I wasn't particularly moved by it. Ed's vocals are good... but have a slightly over-bearing whiff of manufacturer about them. Can't quite explain it.

Still, not bad, not bad...

I think the way Ed sings '... the gates of love, the gates of love' in this version, shows his skills as a singer (think it was captured on the Paradiso DVD as well).

Also, the part of the black singer was a nice little addition to the end. Too bad Sinnead O'Connor couldnt add much to the singe, while she is a great singer.
