Nirvana only had 4-5 years while the FF and every other alt rock band from that time has had atleast twice that .. so its not really fair to say about that Kurt.

Nirvana had as much time as Kurt allowed them to have. I don't say that to be harsh, but it's just reality. He's the reason they didn't have a longer amount of time so whether it's "fair" or not is kind of irrelevant, IMO. Even if it isn't fair, in comparing FF's first two albums to Nirvana's first two albums I can see the superior songwriting talent with Grohl.

Btw, I'm not trying to diminish the importance of Nirvana on rock music. I'm just speaking of my own personal preferences and opinions.

Come on people, Nirvana, and particularly "Smells Like Teen Spirit" singlehandedly put a stake through the heart of the hair band era. I, for one am thankful. They're trendsetters, icons. They broke down the door so all others could pass thru, including Live. This is Hall of Fame stuff and much deserved.

note: I put very little stock in the Rock Hall of Fame since RUSH isn't in.

Nirvana got the most pub out of those bands because that song in particular was a catalyst for the 90's rock revival in motion. But Nirvana didn't singlehandedly put a stake in the heart of the hair band era. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and a number of other bands had their hands on the stake just as much as Nirvana did. Had it just been Nirvana they might have just been seen as an entertaining novelty act. A "serious" Presidents Of The United States Of America.

The fact that Kurt killed himself before Nirvana could put together much of a catalog of albums and that many of Nirvana's biggest fans look at Kurt as somewhat of a martyr also boosts their historical status and their mystic. "What might've been...?" and all that. Maybe Nirvana would have continued on, but the just-as-probable reality of it is that maybe Nirvana had already hit their creative peak.

Nirvana started the whole grunge movement, they deserve the creds. An amazing piece of art they were, and Grohl's legacy and success comes from that!!

just because the dude killed himself doesnt take away from the fact he only had 4-5 years of music to give us. i respect your opinion, but you cant dispute facts.

judging by the acoustic boombox demo of "do re mi", we would have been in for a real treat had kurt stayed around.

Nirvana made grunge big, they deserve those creds. But was grunge on the rise before Nevermind?

"Arriving several months before Nirvana's Nevermind, the Smashing Pumpkins' debut album, Gish, which was also produced by Butch Vig, was the first shot of the alternative revolution that transformed the rock & roll landscape of the '90s. "

The credit goes to Nirvana. Gish was never a big success for SP. It was bubbling under with a few others of course but Nirvana gave rise to (opened doors) for PJ, AIC, SG......list em all!!

Nirvana also owe a lot to bands they idolized that don't get the same notoriety that they did. Bands like the Pixies and The Melvins. Those are the bands I'd say paved the way on just a quieter way. They and others liked them inspired the bands that the general population credit as changing things.

I definitely think grunge was coming up, but Nirvana paved the way for the commercial success. I mean, Soundgarden had been making albums since the late '80s, but like Gish they weren't amazing successes.

Many bands prior to Nirvana got a foot in the door. I give a lot of credit to the Screaming Trees. Anyhow, Nirvana showed up and kicked the door down. They weren't the first or the best (in my opinion) but they hit it big and it helped the entire grunge movement.

And, as far as Cobain killing himself...one could argue that the "lifestyle" that seemed to accompany grunge is what made grunge so powerful. Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell are just some examples.

From TGF's Facebook page:

Okay, TGF fans – I read a bunch of your comments yesterday on Facebook. I will quickly address a few of your thoughts.

First and foremost, The Gracious Few are still a band. Kevin, Chad, Patrick, Sean and I will be back in the studio in November. We’re going to be releasing new material throughout the next year at a pace we define. We have several tracks held back and will roll them out when opportunities present themselves. We also have a show booked in March but extensive touring is not currently on the books. I know how bad you want to see us in far away lands – and we will find a way to get to you! Please remember this is not Candlebox or LIVE but a baby band just learning to walk. Day-by-day, more and more people learn about TGF and hopefully sometime soon, the demand will meet the economics of a global tour. Thus far, the right moment hasn’t prevailed. This doesn’t mean that we’re not looking.

Second, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was disappointed by the overall reaction to our efforts to support Children’s Miracle Network. The investors and management of Questionable Entertainment are a rare breed that would choose to support needy children over corporate profits. The fact that MCA/ Universal would not allow LIVE to support 9/11 causes with our single “Overcome” is a prime example of typical corporate interests surpassing those of the band and the people. In The Gracious Few’s case, the opportunity was welcomed with open arms. Pay4Play raised over $93,000 last year and with the help of the TGF offer, we could hit $100k + thanks to host, 105.7theX. For God’s sake, we’re giving away the album. I don’t know of another band making this type of effort – hopefully there are more.

Rather than support the band and the labels efforts, I read comment after comment about the self-serving interests of some of our most supportive fans. Why didn’t the band tour more? Why do we have to wait a year for more TGF, etc? These comments had no place in an announcement about helping children in need! Yes, Daddy is standing you in the corner.

If you want corporate rock n’ roll then go find it elsewhere. The Gracious Few will continue to define itself by being generous with our time and our music. Hopefully, in the future, our charitable efforts will met with an in-kind gesture by the fans who make this all possible.

It’s okay to want more of TGF but let’s keep it all in perspective, please.

– Chad Taylor

wow, so because his band donates his record to charity (one that has been out for over a year) he thinks he has the right to cut down his fans for asking about the state of the band? AFTER he posted this spring there would be more touring in the fall?

ook.
