The Forgettable Album That Is "V" Options

V was/is more accepted oversees than in the States. I don't see how or why. I can give credit to the band for experimenting, but they couldn't pull it off.

I don't see how it was better than BOP or SFBM. Not even close.

I can't think of one good thing that came out of 2001. Nothing but sadness, loneliness, anger and utter disappointment and disbelief. Sometimes, all you want is for your favorite band to create an album to lift your spirits. The album leaked over the Internet like 6 weeks before it's original release and I can remember myself trying to convince myself that these were not the songs on the new album. This was the bottom of the very bottom for me. I hate the album cover alone.

Live spent a large majority of 1999 through 2000 on the road and I just don't see how much effort and time were spent writing these "lyrics" and music. To me, it felt thrown together just to produce a new album.

But, hey, that's just me. I'll take "Mystery" anyday over "Deep Enough."

Whether you like it or not, you gotta give credit to Live for "experimenting" with a new type of sound. It's not my favorite, but I still like it alot.

Couldn't have said it better. When it was first released I was a liitle disappointed but I like it more now because it has some unique sounds to it.

Wow talk about kicking a dead horse. I agree with Dan, you gotta admire them for trying to do something different. In fact, the only thing that keeps me coming back to Live is that each album has it's own feeling and sound. BoP even accomplished this, however it's own particular sound is one of great sounding instruments yet bland writing.

V is definately an album recorded from the road, it has a fun spirit and some very well played musical bits (this is probably Gracey's best effort to date). The production is very bizarre yet clever, it has a very "80's" feel which I personally love. This really gives the album a bombastic and goofy sound, which is why so many people did not like it. Another reason is that it is quite eclectic. It is painfully obvious that "Forever..." and "Overcome" were from entirely different recording sessions than the other tracks. In fact if you took those two out the album as a whole would make a lot more sense.

I find it interesting how many on here like the album, as it has often been looked at as the bastard child of Live's albums. I remember a rumor or theory when it came out that the album was never intended for wide release, but that the record company pushed them to release it. Personally I think this would really explain a lot. Kinda like how U2 wasn't able to fnish Pop.

I love every song on the album with the exception of Nobody Knows, Forever, and Call Me a Fool though I admire those songs for there unique characteristics. I think I would rather listen to them than BoP (with the exception of Like I Do, Sweet Release, and Lighthouse).

It was Pop they didn't finish.

P.O.D.'s Satellite was released on 9/11, and the youth of the nation (sorry, I couldn't resist) were jamming to "Alive", which became their anthem.

Overcome really has nothing to do with 9/11. Ed has even admitted this a few times. If it wasn't for cameraplanet.com, I don't think anyone would've thought about 9/11 when listening to Overcome. That said, the videos are amazing, and the song is great when I'm in the mood for a slow piano song.

Of course it did not. Doh, the song was written before 9/11. It doesn't matter whatever Ed's inspiration for writing the song was, it will forever be tied to 9/11. Ed knows this so, thats why he acknowledges it with a 9/11 sign with his fingers, at a couple of shows.
And once again, the song is a good cry, that could be applied to any tragic circumstance in one's life.
Personally i love it, especially the ending. I just sounds like a kick ass gospel song .

But I do have a very strong emotional attatchment to the album. More than any other album except Morrissey' Bona Drag, it transports me back to a place and time where I feel safe for some reason or another. It was a horrible time for me when V came out but I listend to it non stop and yeah it was sort of comforting .. somehow.

It is probably my least favorite Live album, but I don't mind it. I listen to it anytime over most of the shit thats out there now.

OK by Live will get the vote over a song like Dance, Dance anytime.

I agree with what some others have said. V is not my favorite, in fact it is way down on the list, but I like it better than BoP or SFBM. I like that they experimented and did something totally different than what was expected of them. It was different in a good way. Plus I have a bit of an emotional attachment to it as well. That was one fucked up year and that was the cd that I was playing the most at the time.

I'm pretty sure I had at least a live version of it, if not the leaked studio version, prior to 9/11 even happening, meaning it has even less to do with 9/11.

Yeah I think there was a live version of it from the Tibetin Freedom concert a couple years before 2001.
