The only proof you need is that SFBM sounds much more like Alive than it does any of the first 4 albums (the albums where CCP had input).

after all the fuss I had to listen to NoN again. I remembered why I don't like it much. it starts out awesome. and then the chorus sounds like horrible Christian rock. seriously. and I listen to (some) Christian rock. and I don't hate Alive. but NoN starts out vaguely reminiscent of an outtake from one of the first 4 albums (I said vaguely, don't go nuts) and then it's good, and it's going well... BAM suck ass chorus.
just doesn't work for me. I'll take BoP any day over SFBM.
I like all of Live's albums, but there is an obvious difference in sound and quality as you go through V, BoP, and SFBM. It's clearly not the same band that made the first 4 albums, as different as they were from each other.
I don't know why people insist on being so polarized about this. I don't think it makes me less of a fan to admit that some of the music made together as a foursome (maybe not created/birthed/imagined together, but recorded as a foursome - or at least individually by all 4) isn't the same quality as the music actually birthed and recorded.
anyway, it doesn't matter now... but if someone (ed) had called me and said "hey I have this idea for this song, NoN, ... " and played a bit, I would've said "um, the chorus sucks. do something edgy there instead of lollipops and kittens"
but I didn't pay $200 to talk to him so I couldn't save us all from what is now this song.

disclaimer: I'm not making fun of you if you like this song. it's not your fault you have bad taste thumbsup.gif

Perfectly stated! There's a lot of songs through history that have great music and the lyrics just stink. Not that'd I'd call NON great music, but it had something the rest of the album didn't. And it was wasted on more bland generic nothing statements - "so I give you my love! Oh! It's all that I have to give! Ohhh!". After you've sat through an entire album of that could he have pushed himself to come up with something more insightful than that?

Exact way I feel about the song. Live has a few songs where I love the verses but the choruses detract from the song.

Heck, even Face and Ghost has such awesome brooding verses but the choruses are less than desirable to me. At least when the shallalalala stuff comes in. It made me cringe at first though I guess I'm used to it now and still like the song. I just wish that wasn't in there.

See I really loved it in Face and Ghost, it's one of my fav Live songs. The shalalalala I though could have been Ed singing "the children's song". It made sense in the context of the song and was melodic. Not just "oh hell I can't think of any lyrics I'll just la la la a bit" that The River was.
