A statement from OTD is not a legally binding document.  If there was a real issue, Ed wouldn't be allowed to be billed as Ed Kowalczyk of LIVE or LIVE's Ed Kowalczyk.

If/when a new singer is announced, he can be billed as "Ed Kowalczyk-original lead singer of LIVE" and do just fine.  It really isn't a huge deal.

Hey what a surprise you're defending Ed! Is there ever a point where you go "hmm I love Ed's music but I think he's in the wrong here"? Or is absolutely everything he does totally fine? You know like most of us are massive on CCP but we wished they'd grown balls earlier and kicked Ed out as soon as he came to them with "Mystery".

It's only not a huge deal to you because Ed is making money out of it, if it wernt such a huge deal and Ed was banned from promoting like that you'd be having a god damn hissy fit because promoting is so important to you. then it'd be a huge deal for you if Ed's income is at stake.
And who the hell promotes themselves as "*Mr Smith, the original singer of Band X" ?? That just comes off as sour grapes in a "nerr I was here first!!" undermining kind of way.
Can you not just understand the really basic simple equation that Ed is no longer part of Live so he should not be promoted this way? Even if you love his music??

Just another example of Ed "moving on".

Using the name and mostly singing the songs of a band he left even AFTER he put out his own solo album.

He has his own material, his own new band, his own website, and his own fan club yet here he is, Ed "of Live" singing Live songs.

That tells me Ed knows exactly how he is being promoted.

I'm pretty sure that when Chris Cornell plays solo shows, he doesn't advertise the hell out of himself as "Chris Cornell, the lead singer of Sound Garden and Audioslave". When people see a Chris Cornell show coming, it is advertised as Chris Cornell and he draws a crowd on his own, based on his own talent and reputation. He doesn't have to tell you who he is.

Live was Live because of all 4 guys. Those album sales, and successful tours, and record contracts, and the following of fans that comes with all of that, and most especially, those great songs, came from all 4 guys together, not just Ed. There would have been no Throwing Copper without Patrick, Chad and Chad. Period. It may not have sounded exactly like SFBM or Alive, but the songs would not have been rich with drums and guitars and bass all standing on their own and coming together with the vocals to make magic.

Ed is out of the band and he is trading on the reputation and name of the band. He can get credit for his past contribution to the effort. Let him talk about it in interviews. Thank you, Ed, for your past service to the cause. But he is still using it and relying heavily (almost exclusively) on the Live name now to make a living. That's the problem. If you are Eddie K. spreading your wings and going in a different direction, then go in that direction and stop circling in the Live parking lot trying to pick up all the Live fans and charging them through the nose for the ride.

Then he sells recordings of the Live songs as a solo artist and doesn't even pay the royalties to the company owned by all 4 individuals for the commercial use of the songs. If another artist went out and recorded Live songs and sold them on iTunes, I bet Ed would be going after their royalties.

I went to a Cornell solo show in Tulsa. First off, it was epic. Secondly, he played easily a 3:1 ratio of solo songs to Soundgarden/Audioslave songs. Add in the covers he did and it was probably a 4:1 ratio.

He's not out when they announce a new lead singer. He's out when he is removed from the legal entities and management structure of Live. Has that happened yet? It sounds like they are keeping that private. If that has happened, and Ed is still billing himself as though he is still the lead singer, then that's pretty shady. If you read between the lines of OTD's posts, it is a real issue for CCP and it sounds like they are trying to take action. I think that OTD knows more about the subject than most of us. Just a hunch.

It isn't shady at all. He is being billed as LIVE's Ed Kowalczyk and playing LIVE songs as well as solo material. People attending shows are getting what is billed.

Let me quote from that promotional poster:

"Ed Kowalczyk is the singer and songwriting force behind the multi-platinum rock band Live."

That sentence is incorrect and misleading on two different counts. First, it says that he "is" the singer of Live in the present tense. Second, it says that he is the congwriting force behind Live. That is taking too much credit and not giving credit where credit is due.

There are 7 paragraphs in that poster including the Title. The sole message of every single one of those seven lines is about Live. Every part of the poster, including the video, is about Live. The only mention of his solo career is the small note that he actually has a solo album. The video is nothing but Live songs and even when the video says "and songs from his solo album" All Over You pipes in.

As I referred to before.....this is a current issue which we don't hear about. Unless Ed is coming back, and I am not saying he is.......this is another course for the lawyers. Mr Ed gets most of his income from Live royalties (publishing), but is no longer legally in the band.

Every LIVE song ever created up to this point, Ed has written at least the lyrics for. A new version of LIVE has yet to see the light of day.

How does this (second part) have any relevance to the response to the 'OP' poster? In the first part, your response actual is a contradiction.

Errr, the problem is Cornell wrote 95% of all the bands he was in himself i figure?

How many of us started to feel like Live was a joke towards the end of their run?

This news that Ed is going to play with NbN continues this trend. Nothing surprises me anymore with it comes to him. He is a total sell out and this event proves it.

Yep, and so does the coffee, paintings, and phone calls. I mean, really? How full of yourself are you if you are charging people a nice chunk of money to talk to you?

Baseball players that charge for autographs think that is ridiculous.
