If you're not a fan of what CCP are doing then stop following them and follow Ed, it's really just not that hard.

i bet you don't mind fans who went to ed's fb site, and told ed on his wall that he was a bastard

QUOTE(TheAdamTaylor @ Oct 2 2011, 1:51 pm) *
If someone was selling music that I helped create on their website and they weren't paying me the mechanical royalties, I'd stick a legal chainsaw up their asshole.

It's funny how the law works like that.

unless of course you guys had some kind of contract (how the law works), then you might actually stay away from their asshole

QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Oct 2 2011, 9:22 pm) *

Now you're an internet thread English teacher? rolleyes.gif

Next thing you know he'll be correcting people who type LOL!

yea you didn't know the word privy, and the point that i made went over your head as usual, hilarious

QUOTE(jaybb @ Oct 2 2011, 10:37 pm) *

That's exactly what I meant in my original post. If I helped create a song and that song was being sold either at concerts on CD or via the internet, I'd be pretty pissed. There is no grey and the contract doesn't have a lot to do with this issue. ASCAP handles most of this in a standard manner - there is a standard mechanical royalty rate.

It's not like it isn't clear who wrote the songs. Just look at the CD liner. The credited writers are owed money. Sorry, but that's the way it works. If I recorded a version of "The River," a song where Ed is the sole credited author, and started to sell it on my website for money - and he found out about it - I'm absolutely certain there would be a lawsuit much in the same manner (yes, there were additional charges leveled against Ed - I'm not referring to those).

And yes, for the record, it is negligent that a successful performing artist would attempt something that amateur - if the accusations are true. Either he sold the songs or he didn't (he did). Either he paid them the money from that or he didn't (they claim he didn't). End of story.

are you a lawyer? did you learn how to make a legal analysis from stuff you conjured up from your gut instinct and reading things on the internet?

EDIT:

I am just deleting my response. People argue about the dumbest shit on the internet (in the name of intellectual elitism, none the less)

Yeah man what would you know you're just a musician who's in the industry. Leave it to the people on the outside who don't have a clue! tongue.gif

Here's hoping a recording of your gig with the rain dogs and CT turns up soon!

You couldn't be further from the truth. I don't follow Ed on facebook or twitter as I'm not a fan of his solo work (funny that how I don't waste time following people I don't care for). So I'm not privy to anyone bashing him on his Facebook. If they were then I'd say the same thing to them, just quit following him and focus on something you do like instead. I think he deserves everything he gets and ive thrown comments around about him here but I'm here on a LIVE fan site for LIVE. I'd never bother going out of my way to make disparaging remarks directly to him in a nest of his own fans. If they want to follow and love him that's fine, I think they like some terrible music but that's their choice.
So I think it works both ways. If you were a fan of Live and you don't like the fact Ed is gone, move on and listen to him as the man himself has apparently moves on and barely talks about Live why should you? Just like I've moved on from Ed, I don't follow him and comment on things he says to tell him how I feel he's disappointed me.

Arguing anything to the contrary of this is just being silly for the sake of arguing. Yeah free speech is free speech so if you expect people should be able to tell CCP how they feel then you damn sure better expect CCP to say how they feel in the end. They're not politicians, they don't have to bite their tongue and kiss babies and not rock the boat. Theyre dudes. Dudes who play rock music and have feelings and emotions and don't have to hold back.

I have no idea who's on this board, but I'd like to wager that I'm "privy" enough to have some room to speak. And that's not me taking a side -- that's the court's job. I'll leave the judgment up to those involved and the judicial system.

I'm sure it must be easy to write me off as "biased" but you all have to remember that LIVE played a giant part in my childhood. I was literally spoon fed Throwing Copper. The music that Ed & CCP created TOGETHER literally formed the foundation for my desire to create music and move people. I'm personally vested in this as well, not only as a brother but also a fan.

I don't think it's cool to go on Ed's facebook page and call him a bastard. I don't think it's cool to wish anything but creative freedom to both Ed and LIVE, even if they can't seem to give that to each other ever again.

P.S. We got a bootleg, not sure how good it is or if it will surface, but it exists. Thanks for the support, Pokey.

if you had any clue, you would know musicians in the industry who have a clue will leave any legal matters up to their lawyers.

shut up about that already. its my honest opinion that anyone should flame away (within reason), to a band at any time, boo at a concert, express themselves on a message board..

and if a band member will accept the good comments but then try to cull out the band ones,
its pretty lame.

The comment you made was about going after a co-writer who sells the music you both created, without paying you. Your hypo didn't provide any more information than that, so it wasn't clear that it would be worthwhile to sue. So you wouldn't have room to speak on that.

But if you were alluding to a breach in your brothers contract, that would be an entirely different scenario, you may be able to speak on that.

But these people are not fans! They refuse to acknowledge it's even Live, they're like Nick, counted out. It makes as much sense as me following Kanye West and giving him an earful. What's the point? If the music cams out and people expressed they didn't like it then fair enough, you gotta wear the good reviews with the bad. You're asking the band to bend over and take it like a bitch. Ain't happening, if people want to bring it they should expect the band to ark up and show emotion in reply. Afterall that's what music is about, envying emotion.

Your right to free speech is way out of whack if it applys to one group of people and not another. If someone gave Ed a spray on his Facebook I'd say he'd have every right to back up his beliefs and reply.

I disagree with the notion that people arent real live fans if they arent 100% supportive of this new venture...people fell in love with live for different reasons, and if the "old" ed happened to be one of those reasons, then thats as valid as any other reason

I would agree that this new live venture will hopefully/probably sound more like the "classic" live than anything from the past 10 years, although I happen to think she, like i do, lighthouse, and rivertown on BOP are high-quality songs

Fair enough there may be still some real fans in among there. They're not all as extreme as Nick I'll accept that. Still, if you're not on board then move on is all I can really think.
