I don't think it necessarily matters whether or not Ed closes the door. The guys are moving on without him and Live is going to have a new singer. When that happens (since the new person hasn't been announced) I doubt they'll let Ed come back especially if they find some commercial success.

As far as I've heard, CC+P never said Live is going to have a new singer. They mentioned that 'a friend' joined them vocally at repetitions, but not much more than that. They also said that they respect Ed and his contribution to Live. CT has opened doors to Ed, or any other artist, contributing to Live. The "open spirit".

It is hard to tell if this is them just trying to be friendly (in respect to the court case?) or that the pain is really wearing off.

Wam makes a point, he could just be saying this now as a way of either getting out if outright saying never again and instilling even more negativity and enticing more break up questions and gossip. Honestly it does seem like a "safe" answer to the inevitable questions that are going to basically come up in every interview ever does. But it will be interesting to see how he plays it once Live is fully back up and running with new album and tour. Will he say he hasn't bothered listening or paying attention? Will he wish them luck? Etc

And also if Ed ever does go back with Live and it's under his terms and not an equal share of creative input and we get another SFBM, then I can safely say that I'd be done sad.gif
That's sad really, that I'm more optimistic about a new singer joining than the prospect of Ed coming back ... Heh and certain people would lead you to believe it's a "no Ed, no deal" situation. To me he's the riskier option, another bad stint with him would kill everything.

If he was writing Zions and recording them with Live, I'd be perfectly fine with that.

Yeah, all things seemed to suggest that they are getting a new singer but you're right they haven't flat out said it.

No, I like Zion a lot but I don't like the lyrics.

I can't help but feel like I'm a 7 year old in a baptist Bible study.

"Satan won't dare to stand to long when he see's that temple guard...."

Ed not only has to not pussify things but his lyrics need to be better too.

Ah dude, that would break me. But you make an interesting point about Ed being the riskier option. I agree and I think most people would only want Ed to rejoin on the condition he shared the creative process with the other guys.
As for him trying to remain neutral and giving a 'safe' answer - that may well be the case. But I think he displayed a change of attitude to back when the breakup and the following vitriol surrounding it was more raw. I just can't see how someone like him, having absorbed so much of what spritituality and religion has to offer, could live without regret and how things have turned out with the other guys. Even if they never worked together again, I'd personally feel better knowing that they were still friends.

You'll never know a thing about his writing until they reunite.

There will hardly be a new "Hitler in a robe of truth, my emptiness etc etc" line. But I hope he does go further and deeper than "kiiiiiheeeeeeeeds, jjjjjjjjeeeeeeeeeeeheeeeeeeesuuuuuuuuus, waaaaaaaaawwwwaaaaaawwwwwwaaaaaaaaater" in his second album and in all the coming works frmo him.

That's the risk you have been talking about. And my reply is: you'll never know before...

WHAT if he simply is not capable of writing a deep lyric again? What if his happy life has influenced him so much that only things he could sing about were his kids and his faith?

This is good to him. But horrible to us all. Nuffin new, E.

Exactly, hence being the riskier option. To come back to Live I'd hope it would mean some home truths being told between them about the writing process and CCP are heavily involved. But in all honesty its hard to see the boys rolling over for him now and letting him have his way again. They're a united front and have grown their balls and it's hard to see them being his bitch anymore.

It is no coincidence that this comes just as the buzz around Live (without him) heats up. I'm actually quite surprised that some have so quickly forgotten this guys m.o. for the past 10+ years. So in one interview he just cleanses all of that and now there's a chance they could find the common ground to produce magic again? Not that he could even go there anymore if he gave in to the process. Now that Ed has put this out there it is sure to cause quite a commotion. Imagine those that don't know as much as we do, hearing Live is making music without Ed, yet Ed would welcome a reunion. They're going to flip. His responses were calculated and disingenuous. If he truly wanted to mend any fences he wouldn't continue speaking about Live as "I". Every interview lately he reminds us how much he contributed, or more like, how little CCP contributed. Just a not so subtle reminder of his importance to Live, or their reliance on him. He knew damn well that saying he'd welcome a return would get everyone's juices flowing. Like I said, this is all about gaining or trying to keep his leverage as the key component to Live. No Ed, no Live. At least that is what he'd like to perpetuate. This latest move is a calculated effort on that front. Do you really think that if CCP believed there was a chance to collaborate with Ed as they did back in the day, they'd be moving on as they are right now? Absolutely not. The fact that they are tells you all you need to know about a possible reunion.
