I never replied, but I guess that the people who know me, knows what I have choosen lol.gif

I am from Holland, and I only d/l the ED Alive album to listen to each song about 30 seconds and skipped to the second, and within 5 minutes I deleted this album from my harddisk...it's even worse than +LIVE+'s last album SFBM...

While I have listened to TGF over a 1.000 times easily, even today my MP3 player was on repeat for 2 hours on TGF...I really dig this album and it is my favorite album after SS!

TGF ROCKS, ED SUCKS

I listened to Alive inthe car this morning. I wanted to give it a another chance and I hoped that after some time, I might enjoy it more. On my iPod, the first somg that comes up under that album is Eat Your Love, the track from the European release. It is a song about the holy Eucharist. And I get to the chorus and I heard this lyric:

"I need your bread, I want to Eat your love."

My goodness. What a transparent, one-dimensional lyric. Perhaps the worst of all time. I don't like the fact that this is a song that is overtly written about Communion, or that Ed exclaims in the middle of it "I belive in you Lord" and he mentions a river for the ten thousandth time in this song (can we all agree that Ed ran out of symbols in 1994?!?!). But creatively, as a song about the eucharist, this lyric is the creative equivalent of a love song about a girl where the lyricist just comes right out and says "I want to stick my penis in your vagina". I mean seriously. "I need your bread, I want to Eat your love." He couldn't even attempt to find a metaphor for the eucharist? There are so many beautiful religious poems and prose that do such a wonderful job of expressing the writer's emotion about their faith. Ed's lyrics are like at a second-grade level.

I swear that if this music had been on a cd instead of my iPod attached to my car, I would have tossed it out the window onto the side of the street this morning I was so disgusted.

I swear that I am starting to think that the only thing that will keep me from getting excited about new Live is if Ed does return to the band.

all this discussion
though politically correct
is dead beyond destructiont
though it leaves me quite erect
and as the final sunset rolls behind the Earth
and the clock is finally dead
I'll look at you, you'll look at me
and we'll cry a lot
but this will be what we said
this will be what we said

look where all this talking got us, baby

Beautiful subject matter, empty, thrown together quick-cause-I-gotta-put-this-album-out-before the-hype-is-gone-and-my-record-deal-is-not-renewed-lyrics.

YOU HAVE BETRAYED US ED KOWALCZYK AND ME FOR THE LAST TIME.
Your wine was sweet but now is vinegar.
Your river was a flowing majesty but now a dried out wasteland.
etc., etc.
I HATE FEELING SUCKERED ESPECIALLY BY PEOPLE WHOM I ADMIRED AND RESPECTED AND WHO HAD SUCH POSITIVE AFFECT ON ME FOR YEARS.
NO MORE ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
And happy thanksgiving.

Alive is a pretty poor record, to be honest. Not great in and of itself, and when compared to what Ed used to be able to produce... it's trash. I can't really fathom how anybody can think otherwise.
