Fish, that was perfectly stated. I laughed out loud about Waterworld because I'm pretty positive I've heard Kevin Costner defend that movie, years after he needed to, saying he liked it. Poor Kevin.

I like Ed's new stuff for what it is, but it's not the same art it used to be.

I always liked V and I liked the spirituality of the lyrics.

But something definitely happened between 1999 and 2001. I'd love to know what changed during that period of time. It's like the "on" switch that controlled Ed's ability to write with metaphor and symbolism and depth got switched off. Or more accurately, the fuse blew and he never figured out how to fix the fuse. After TDTH, everything was "this is like that" using writing skills that were barely above second grade-level childrens books.

I agree with a lot of your post, but I think V's lyrics were the result of a hastily written record that wasn't (as CT stated) meant to be released as a full studio album. I do agree that it was the point when Ed started writing awful lyrics, but I can at least understand why that was the case on this record if it was recorded as Chad tells it. The fuse on the band's musicality didn't blow until after that record.

V hit on all cylinders for me with the glaring exception of the lyrics. To me, a lot of them sound like stand-in lyrics that writers use until they finish the lyrics - only they never got the time to mature.

Now BOP and SFBM (and Alive) - hell if I know.

People seem to pick on Puppy Scruff a bit too, but I don't mind that since it's ... different.

Back then I don't think my face would be the same as if I were seeing them now and they played it twice, Live were still a bit of a savior back then and I was just glad to see them. It was a pretty awesome gig overall, very high energy.

Yeah, the actual V-album we know me be done hastily... But overall Chad said the songs that were written between TDTH - V were one of best songs ED ever wrote! They never saw the daylight I guess. And I dont know if Chad pointed in 'best' in lyrical way or songwriting/music.
