He's more of a snake then a bear, but I digress.

But back to the original topic, Chad says he's taking input and reading Facebook (I imagine here too), so as I said earlier ... 2-Disc set Chad ! Pleeeease. I want it all ! All the unreleased material. And fuck half those facebook knuckleheads ... I wanna hear Post-Ed LIVE. Bring it ! guitar.gif

QUOTE(LanceManion @ Jul 19 2011, 5:17 pm) *

I wonder how all this supposed rerecording works if it's material Ed had input on. They would have to get his permission right? I'm guessing he didn't sign away rights to the biggest part of his career.

The four guys own Black Coffee Publishing, Inc. That company owns the publishing rights to the songs themselves. If they're going to release new versions of previously released songs, they'd have to pay music royalties based on the credited writers of the songs (on the first four albums, it was generally all four guys), on the later works, it was Ed alone. Additionally, Black Coffee Publishing would get the publishing royalties for the songs. There's certainly a contract in place that stipulates how that money is paid out from Black Coffee. This is same way that the guys were able to record the Paradiso performance, without any input from Radioactive/UMG.

There was also the question of the revised contract that took place, which gave EK 70% of the royalties, with the other guys taking 10% each from SFBM onward. Given the fact Chad has stated (at least highly inferred) they had little interest in the post-V efforts, you can expect very little of that would be included. So Ed would absolutely get some money from this (both on the publishing and music royalty side), but not as much as if they re-recorded SFBM, for example.

Keep in mind, this is one of the points of the existing litigation that has been ongoing. The other three guys were furious that EK was selling versions of early +LIVE+ songs on his website and at shows, without paying the appropriate fees for publishing and to the credited songwriters.

People don't like change. Especially when it comes to their favorite band. No one wants to see members replaced. I was a huge Alice in Chains fan and when Layne died, I literally cried! When Alice in Chains reformed I didn't want to hear it, I didn't want to watch any videos, to me that band died along with Layne. I kept hearing really good things about the new singer, but I swore up and down I could never listen to that band again without Layne singing. Well fast forward to their single being released, Check My Brain and I'm in my bosses office and he says "hey listen to this". Needless to say I am totally blown away and I break down and buy the record when it comes out. I loved it! I couldn't wait to see them live when they came to NY. As hard as it was in the beginning to even imagine me listening to this band ever again, it's not even a thought in my mind anymore. I'm open to whatever they want to put out. I love them.

I imagine that's the way some of those people feel about +Live+ and it's totally understandable. Just wait until they release something, the people will listen and make their decision whether they were a +Live+ fan, or maybe they were just an Ed fan. Either way, the guys are fulfilling their desires continuing the band they know and love & I wish them the best of luck! rockin.gif

I think AIC is a great example. I heard an interview with Jerry and the bass player talking about how they wouldn't have done it if they couldn't maintain the integrity and identity of AIC. Well they certainly did. It may have been a bit easier vocally just because Jerry did quite a bit of singing all along, but it sounds like the Live guys are paying just as much attention to the original spirit of Live. I think they will get a lot of attention initially and if it resonates they could really put themselves back on the map, just like AIC.

You've got to love CT's accessability and feedback to the fans. The biggest fan of Live in the world is probably him himself! What a shame the former singer doesn't have the same passion for LIVE

I'll go against the grain of this board and say I don't want a new vocalist,I can't see it working. If that's the path they take then I'd be suprised if it recaptures the same old magic, but I'm happy to be wrong...

Any speculation on who the new singer is or does everyone else already unofficially know?
