briburge, ed's out. Read the other threads....Thrill states it. I've stated it.

I understand that he is out but saying he was kicked out is comical. He left.

You know how I know that Ed wasn't Live? Because this morning I was blasting Appetite on my amazing sound system in my new car, and I was hearing every nuance of that song. And you know what jumped out at me this morning? Something new and different jumps out at me every time I listen to that amazing album. You know what jumped out at me this morning? That one-of-a-kind, distinctive, amazing drums from one Mr. Chad Alan Gracey on drums. Listen to the first minute of Appetite. Listen to those drums!

THAT is Live. That is a seed of what Live WAS, present in TGF. Because only founding member, and drummer extrordinare, Chadd Alan Gracey, can play drums in that distinctive fashion. It is why Neil Peart stood up and took notice of Chad Gracey and Live. And it was because Neil Peart payed attention to Chad Gracey that Jimmy Lang got turned on to Live. And because Jimmy Lang got turned on to Live, he originated a web presence for Live when the internet was only in its infancy. And he recorded some of the most extraordinary photographs of Live that we have ever seen. And without Jimmy, I would have never gotten to take a single photograph of Live.

But I digress. Without Chad Alan Gracey's drumming, Live wasn't Live. And I could give you the same analysis of the bass and the guitar. So no, Ed wasn't Live.

And by all of that logic, I guess SFBM wasn't a Live album. Where were those drums on SFBM? They weren't there. Because Ed walked into the studio and treated CCP like session musicians and gave them songs that were written by a vocalist and lyricist that has no concept of how to take what Chad Gracey does and make it amazing in a song.

Here is an analogy for what happened to Live on the last 3 albums, and why they were no longer a success (to speak in Nick's terms) after TDTH.

Roy Halladay is the best pitcher in baseball. When he is pitching, he is unbelievable.

Roy Halladay's batting average is .070. For those who don't know baseball - that is really bad. A decent batting average is .300. I am sure that Roy Halladay would struggle playing the outfield or any other infield position or catcher. But he is a great pitcher and you value him on the team. But you field 9 players on the baseball field to play the game.

Roy Halladay is the best pitcher in all of baseball and he makes the most money on the team. Halladay is arguably the most valuable players on the team. But he is a team player. He doesn't have a huge ego. He values the contribution of the other players and knows that in order for the team to succeed, each player must do his component part. Heck, the catcher, Carlos Ruiz, calls the pitches that Halladay throws, and Roy Halladay trusts Ruiz and throws the pitches that he tells him to throw. And it has worked out pretty well for Halladay. Halladay has showered Ruiz with gifts for being a great catcher and enabling Halladay to do what he does so well.

Now what would happen if Roy Halladay took over the whole team and dictated to everyone how to play their positions? What if he became the batting coach and told Ryan Howard how to hit the ball? Roy Halladay is a great pitcher, but he bats .070. What if he told Victorino how to judge fly balls and ignored every pitch call that Ruiz makes from behind home plate? Batters bat. Catchers catch. And Pitchers pitch. If your pitcher is telling your batters how to bat, the team will suck.

Ed Kowalczyk was (was but not "is") the Roy Halladay of singing and lyrics. When he was writing lyrics and singing them, he was unbelievable. Then he got a huge ego. He took credit for all of the accomplishments of the team. He made sure that the cover of the team photo was just Ed. And worst of all, he told the bassist, the drummer and the guitarist how to do their jobs. But Ed is no better at working drumming magic, bass or guitar riffs into a song than Roy Halladay is at the plate, batting .070. And giess what happens when your posterboy does this? The team loses.

Now Ed is fielding a baseball team with Roy Halladay and the bad news bears. Roy Halladay is in charge of everything. And you know what you have? You have a team named "Alive" that is batting .070 with a great vocalist.

You know what CCP did? They went out and got Cliff Lee as a pitcher (in this story, Cliff Lee will be played by Kecvin Martin). They named their new team The Gracious Few. And they have a complete, functioning team that makes magic on the field.

Now it appears that they have cut Roy Halladay from the original team named Live because he ran amuck and they are replacing him with Cole Hamels. Stay tuned to find out who will be playing the part of Cole Hamels in this story.

I know - I started to mix my metaphors at the end there. I did that to drive the point home (Get it? Pun intended!).

You point is valid but Justin Verlander is the best pitcher in baseball!

Here's the actual exchange:

Jimmy Lang: Nick, don't you have someone's ass go to clean? Let me know if you're running low I can send you an extra roll or two.

Holy crap.. did Lang really come out of hiding just to rip Nick? That is awesome. thumbsup.gif

I'd take Doc over Verlander. Doc has a better long term track record. Verlander only has 2.5 years of being good.

You know what though? It all boils down to entertainment. Verlander's 101mph gas is definitely more entertaining than watching a sinker baller throw 91.

I'm also a Phillies fan, so Doc it is. One positive thing about Doc though is that his work ethic is unmatched by many, and his leadership and that work ethic rubs off on his teammates.

CAG strikes down on Nick again via FB

"BYE NICK! Why are still here? We get it. You LOVE Ed. That's great! Have fun with it. Stop being so precious about who is in LIVE. LIVE was about the music, the feeling and our TRUSTING friendship. Thats what it will be about again. No matter who is singing! Now have a great life and dismiss yourself." Later CG
