My bad for helping derail the topic...

I've been as big of a fan of Ed on here as anyone since the split...I know I do not always post that often.

To me, without Ed, you can't have Live. But the same goes for the rest of the band. It is not Live without the 4 of them together.

I would have no problem if they find another lead singer and play Live songs, I would rather they just don't call it Live.

I guess the closest thing I can relate it to was Audioslave. After RATM split, they went out and got Cornell. When I saw them live theoy played a bunch of RATM songs, and it was great. They also played all of their material and I loved that as well.

Now Cornell is out, and RATM is back.

I just think it would not have been the same if they tried to call it RATM all the way through.

I would rather see the guys from Live take this route. Maybe someday Ed comes back, maybe not. Do the guys have the right to go out, find a replacement and call it Live? Probably. I would just rather not see it.

you sure? It will probably never happen with Ed. I think he's burned his bridge in many ways. Why not go see the musical passion.those 3 have....with whomever sings? What if it's better than we heard since the falsetto? Not interested in a seat at the show?

There was probably a time when people said that about Zack and RATM.

I love TGF...and if they were playing Live songs I would have no problem with it. I guess just the idea of creating and performing new Live material without all 4 of them involved is what I don't like. I guess the argument could be made based on what we've heard is that Ed did the creating part on his own for the last 10+ years.

With that said, would I want a seat at the show? Absolutely. I'll check out anything that any of the four of them do...at least to give it a listen.

I'd just rather they don't call new material Live...just like I don't want Ed calling his new material Live, because its not.

Live has only been broken up for 2 years, it is way too early to say that they will never get back together.

If their new material is good, do they need the name LIVE to back it? If the four of them get back together, do they really want to be billed as LIVE, featuring original lead singer Ed Kowalczyk? No matter how well they do with a new lead singer, they won't do as well without the original lineup.

I wonder how much people on this board would bitch if Ed called his new band LIVE? Same deal.

It's basic math 3/4 > 1/4. Sorry.

Ed has been the voice of LIVE for 20 years, and he will always be identified with the band. He will be nearly impossible to replace. Any known vocalist wouldn't want the job of replacing a singer for a well known band. It is just a thankless role because it is difficult to be accepted by established fanbase.

As Shave said, their best bet is to find a new lead singer, work on new material, and include LIVE songs in the set. Just don't call yourself LIVE without Ed, because their will be a backlash.

Or Art Alexakis(Everclear), Bret Scallions(Fuel), Ed Roland(Collective Soul), Gavin Rossdale(Bush), Kevin Griffin(Better Than Ezra), Matt Scannel(Vertical Horizon) etc. All lost multiple key members of their band, but continued on as the lead singer and have done well. It usually doesn't work the other way.

To make things a bit clearer, let me tell you that, being a fan of guitar music, grunge and post-grunge specifically, I never heard any of the above mentioned (except for Gavin) to be at least 1\3 successful out of the band.

And, errr, would you mind comparing Scott Stapp and Alter Bridge in at least charting?

ACDC, Van Halen

Also wanted to mention both of 'em

Add to that list (omg, bitches, for god sake!) Queen who went on tour with Paul Rogers and wanted to include Robbie Williams to their line-up earlier, when John Deacon quit

Bush lost their guitar player and they fell off the planet. Yet to be determined how they do on thier comeback. CS also lost their guitar player and recovered albeit not quite the same without Ross. They've also replaced a drummer or two but neither of those bands were completely replaced all at once.Scallions went nowhere same with Everclear. Don't know about VH or BTE, they're pretty much off the radar so I'd say your examples are pretty weak. As for Axl, how's that working out. He hasn't even toured in the US.

Have done well? Are you kidding? Vertical Horizon, what do they play now state fairs? Axl Rose? You would be luck if he even shows up to perform. Gavin Rossdale, horrible solo career and Institute did nothing spectacular. Maybe that's why Bush is back together with the original line up.

For someone so concerned about sales and people showing up at concerts these band maybe excluding Collective Soul cannot sell out a 1,000 person venue. It isn't the 90s anymore, these bands can't sell out venues or sell albums.

For someone concerned about money, selling album, and selling tickets you picked a shitty bunch of bands as an example of bands "doing well." with lineup changes.

the Young brothers are the bosses in AC/DC. They did the hiring and firing. Live were supposed to be equal.

But... he doesn't.
