QUOTE(Pokey @ Jul 13 2011, 11:11 am) *

This was close to my first experience with The River. with BOP whilst it was mostly a miss, there were still elements that maybe they were starting to try and find something. They'd lost their way, not exactly come back with a bang but it at least kept some hope. So when Ed was talking up SFBM I thought that maybe it was time. Then the sample of The River leaked and a friend of mine from the board here heard it first and texted me and I still remember the text, it just said "its a pop song, it's god damn Savage Garden". I downloaded it and I think the colour must have drained from my face when I heard "la da da da".

However, the last "new" Live songs I heard were Mallrat and Photograph and they both blew me away. Mallrat especially, that song is seriously in my top few Live songs. So that's why I'm psyched about this release even if it is good quality demos of songs we have heard, at least I know that there is no way in hell I can be disappointed.

For me, disappointment has been the word of the day when it comes to Live for over 10 years.

When was the last time there was a post where everyone ranked the Live albums in order? With all of this talk about Ed and CCP and the decline of Live and musical taste I am curious about where everyone stands. Should I start a thread and ask people to rank the albums and explain why they made their rankings the way they do?

For me personally, BoP is the only album that I do not like. I never listen to it. Heaven is the only song I like on that album. I can't explain why, but I just don't like it. I actually like SFBM and V, although they are not my favorite.

The River didn't shock me after hearing Everytime I See Your Face.

See personally I liked Everytime I see your face and Out to dry, I hoped as stand alones they would be about as pop as Live wanted to experiment with. I found they had a certain charm to them and weren't too offensive to the senses. The River was ... I mean it was their lead off single from an album. It was the "new direction".

Curiously how will the songs be released without Ed and Radioactive signing off on them? Doesn't Radioactive have control of LIVE b-sides from that era(hence Hold Me Up not being released for Zack and Miri).

Since they were not released on albums, I'm sure that the 3/4 members (remember Chad saying the publishing company was majority rule) have the right to release the works in whatever format they want. There may be some deal in place where they give a percentage back to Radioactive. It would be different if they were trying to re-release Throwing Copper, for example, on their own label.

Hold Me Up not being released was a band decision. Had nothing to do with the label. I'm sure if you ask the label, they'd want it released. Better to be put out and make some cash than sit in a vault.

Radioactive is no longer, but this would flow to Universal

Perhaps some of you share this very same experience as me. Back in 2005, I sat in anticipation of the forthcoming album Songs from Black Mountain. I had read numerous interviews and articles where Ed stated, "rock fans and old-school Live fans will love this new album. It is classic Live and really rocks."

We all know how the song starts. A bunch of "la la las and da da das." We both laughed heartedly at another failed effort from Ed and turned it off. To this day, I cannot stand 90% of Sounds from Black Mountain. It is very sad that was their last official album release. It's sort of like a star player whose sun has set who doesn't know when to say good-bye and retire. Live was much better off closing shop after V even though that was a terrible album as well.
.

Right there with ya. I for one liked and still do like BOP. I knew there would never be a TC2, but the tour was what really renewed my hope. They played more of a heavier setlist on that tour and the sound was edgier. The keyboards were gone and things looked to be on the upswing. Than u saw the Ed K hype for SFBM and thought, "my boys are back". Wow, it only took a few bars for me as well to smell the stench of failure and that the EK overthrow was complete. I felt just as what had happened to my favorite band...kicked in the balls.

(so back on topic) does anyone get the stark realization that C&C&P catered to Ed's drama for almost 20 years and in the end when he did major wrongdoings that caused the rift and lawsuits.....it was time to regain the band and place it on proper footing? We placed Ed on a pedestal for so long that we got all caught up in his aura.....now, well for me I said enough after 2004....I knew things were kind of not right. The SFBM record was another broken promise or Ed's interpretation of the band....(well, Ed's agenda). After picking up that CD, I was sadened and closed the book for a while....until the hiatus.

My bad for helping derail the topic...

I've been as big of a fan of Ed on here as anyone since the split...I know I do not always post that often.

To me, without Ed, you can't have Live. But the same goes for the rest of the band. It is not Live without the 4 of them together.

I would have no problem if they find another lead singer and play Live songs, I would rather they just don't call it Live.

I guess the closest thing I can relate it to was Audioslave. After RATM split, they went out and got Cornell. When I saw them live they played a bunch of RATM songs, and it was great. They also played all of their material and I loved that as well.

Now Cornell is out, and RATM is back.

I just think it would not have been the same if they tried to call it RATM all the way through.

I would rather see the guys from Live take this route. Maybe someday Ed comes back, maybe not. Do the guys have the right to go out, find a replacement and call it Live? Probably. I would just rather not see it.
