Artistic quality is very subjective and totally different for each person.

Your earlier post regarding LIVE on Howard Stern, where you said that all guests get great exposure from his show, was no longer true by the time LIVE came was on in 2006. The early days of Howard on Sirius barely registered half a million listeners, if that.

By the way, I agree that artistic taste is subjective. I for one really like SFBM. Lots of people here dislike it. I still listen to it and I really like it. I like the spirituality of the lyrics. I think it is distinctly vocalist-centric and I wish the music had more of a chance to breath on the album. But I like it. If you like Ed's album, I respect that. Taste is subjective. I would hope that you can appreciate TGF as good, creative music, even if it is not your cup of tea. Commercial success or no commercial success, it was an artistic success. If you think that the TGF endeavor is low in quality for what it is, then I question your objective ability to evaluate music.

Howard Stern continues to blow people's popularity through the roof. His guests are regularly having their websites crash and having top google search rankings on the day of appearances. And his fans are more loyal and rabid than those of the TV shows you mentioned, so his guests that he responds positively to get more of a push than the fans of Jay Leno for example.

Fans left in droves of all the 90's bands when the new decade hit. Linkin Park and the like changed rock music and bands like STP, Bush, Candlebox etc were all pushed out and disbanded. LIVE stuck it out, and tried to adapt, but new bands had taken over.

STP had a fucked up lead singer that was always on crack, Bush was not really that good, and Candlebox really was not a huge 90's band (they were semi successful)

Bands like Foo Fighters, Green Day, and Dave Matthews Band (to name a few) came from the 90's, stuck it out, and are doing fine.

Ed took Live downhill with his psycho religions bullshit person quest and threw the band off a cliff. If his ego was smaller Live could have been a very commercial and successful band today. I'd say he actually didn't allow that to happen. Maybe he just couldn't handle it all.

No debating the power of Idol though and they got nothing from that.

They were treated like an after thought on Idol, no mention of their album they just played the song and were done. Even so the appearance made SFBM debut #7 on Itunes in its first week of release and #3 Indie album on Billboard.

they were treated like a dog attacking a piece of meat becasue things were sold out in order to carry on Ed's will.........bad music won't make those opportunities golden.

We're arguing with an autistic gym teacher. He has no friends in real life, and those that know him probably feel sorry for "that poor retarded guy." Stop feeding the troll!

hey now... My brother is autistic & 1. Has friends & 2. Is not retarded. Lets not make fun of people for things they can't control (like being autistic, retarded, short, or ugly). Instead, stick to things they have full control over.
Nick, sometimes I think people are a little rough on you here, but dude, you are totally in control of your assoleitude. & you've got it on full tilt.
if Nick has no friends it's because he's an ass.
Lets not insult the autistic.

and Nick, just fyi, MUSICIANS make music & sometimes the public is intelligent enough to recognize what's good & then what's good actually makes money. But just because music doesn't make money doesn't make it suck.

I like Alive because I'm a Christian & it's decent Christian rock. Sonically, lyrically, in all ways, however, TGF's album is higher quality MUSIC.

eat it, Nick.

I like Ed the times I've met him, but he is not the end all & be all of music or even LIVE for that matter. And Nick, if they replace Ed, NO ONE besides us would notice, because no one I know recognizes Ed. Sure as hell no one knows his name. & his voice has been so different in the last few years I'm not sure the general public would notice a difference singer if they were just hearing a song on the radio.

I don't like attacks on you Nick & I hate to attack you myself but, damn, you say the stupidest shit sometimes.

I'm looking forward to whatever they come up with. It will be weird for me to see LIVE without Ed, but it's their band, they can do what they want. If I don't likeit, I won't listen.

He also barely plays Secret Samahdi. We're just going around in circles. smile.gif

He played 2 songs from SS, how many songs did he play from SFBM?

QUOTE(OutToDry @ Jul 10 2011, 11:56 pm) *

whats with the 3 piece percussion? Totally ruined some songs which current versions are already lacking quite a bit.

Yanno what mate. This makes quite a picture. He takes 3 drummers to make up for 1 line by Gracey. And he FAILS!

WOOOOOOOOHOOHOHOOOOOOOOOOOO bounce.gif bounce.gif bounce.gif bounce.gif Very well stated there!

PS do not mind Ex mentioning the autistic as an insult. This may insult Ed and his followers, but I really doubt he meant to offend the truly autistic people

I never meant it as an insult, but rather as an explanation for behavior. People on the autism spectrum tend to lock in on something and never let go, regardless of rationality. I also never confused autism with mental retardation. Nonetheless, I have been accused of cyber bullying by another member of this site, and will no longer continue to post. The whole 100 vs 1 thing isn't too much fun anymore, and when it starts carrying over into personal and professional lives, especially careers that some have worked for over a decade to achieve, it really isn't funny. I apologize for any I have offended and wish you all the best of luck. I'm gone.

The general public may not, but LIVE fans attending a show will notice a new lead singer on stage.

What's the % of long time LIVE fans that will follow Ed and side with him? < 25%?

Obviously my guess of < 25% is just that, but this site definitely seems to see more support for CC&P.

Are there other examples of lead singers jading their fans as much as Ed? I've seen Chad T reply to this forum, so do you think Ed ever reads it? Maybe he should and it would help him realize that he was for the downfall of LIVE for the last 10 years and I'm certain his solo career will be short lived as well. Whatever the other guys decide to do will be cool with me. I personally cannot wait to see how they carry on the name of LIVE.

Of the 4, Ed is easily the most recognizable to the general public. That being said, the general public would probably not notice if any of the original 4 were replaced.

My thoughts on LIVE w/o Ed... I'd attend a show and form my own opinion. Low expectations. Its not LIVE to me w/o the 4 of them together.

I think Live without Ed would be Live in name only. Ed's one-of-a-kind voice that I continue to love was essential to Live being Live. His bald head instantly identified Live as Live to the general public. And his universally available spritiual lyrics are what turned me on to Live the most. That being said, Live wouldn't be Live without any one of the four members of the band that caught lightening in a bottle on albums and concerts for more than a decade. And contrary to what some think, I don't think that the best songs that lie at the heart of Live's musical career would have been nearly as good if any one of the ingredients were missing. Removing Gracey's unique drumming, Patrick's identifyable bass or Taylor's perfect knack for rythm guitar would be like removing the basil from pesto sauce. It would just be pine nuts and olive oil. What we got on SFBM was too much nuts and not enough basil, and the recipe was askew. When I listen to a song like T.B.D., I get lost in all of the ingredients coming together. That unistakeable bass. I know Ed wasn't solely responsible for every intonation of Patricks bass line. That drumming sound with the brush sound - whatever you call that. Those perfectly placed guitar chords, that hit the perfect tone and just the right moment. That's Taylor's knack. A masterpiece like T.B.D. could not have been created if vocalist, lyricist Ed Kowalczyk walked into the studio with the song 100% complete and ready to be recorded, because he doesn't have the sinsibilities of a drummer, bassist or guitarist, like CCP to explore the song and let it take life.

If CCP go on with Live with a new lead singer, I will follow it and nost certainly enjoy it, like I enjoy TGF. That would be - enjoy it very much. But if they call it Live with a new lead singer, I think it will be semantics. It won't be any more Live than TGF is Live. Without Ed it will sound different and it will be different. It will be my three favorite musicians with a different lead singer calling themselves Live. Heck, Live with Ed at the end of their run wasn't really "Live" as far as I'm concerned.

So I am ready to get blown away by what they do next. And I am prepared to go to some "Live concerts" in the future.

But my real concern is that if they go on as Live with a new lead singer just so that they can call it Live instead of calling it something else - I fear that will do more to preclude the possibility of Live rejoining with Ed in the future, than if they started some other band and call it something else. Once they cross the rubicon of rebooting Live and moving forward with somene else, you can't just kick that person out and bring back Ed if the perfect opportunity to do that ever manifests itself. And I am against making any moves that shuts the door and locks the deadbolt on ever having Live with Ed Kowalczyk as lead singer again.

All this talk of bringing LIVE back, and I dont recall seeing any discussion on what they might do? Simply put out another ablum? Tour again as LIVE? What about setlists for the shows? Would they play old LIVE stuff with a new lead singer?

Hmm. I would first have to know whether he will shave his head and whether he will take his shirt off at the break of Lightening Crashes in every concert...
