Do a search for "Live - Freaks (Pre Secret Samadhi)" on YouTube and you'll find an audience shot video from Austin TX in 1994.

I have an old Australian Bootleg that came out about a year before SS was released and it had Freaks on it.

That sounds interesting. Do you have a date or a setlist? Live's first tour of Australia was in 1995.

I didn't know there were any bootlegs of Live's first tour of Australia in 95? I'd be real interested to hear that too if its in decent quality.
I remember they played the Prince of Wales down here in Melbourne and I couldn't go because I was under age sad.gif
Hard to believe now that they played there.

TripleJ (radio station) broadcast a "Live at the Wireless" set of Live from an Australian show in 1995 (as well as 1997). I never was able to obtain a copy of the 1995 set but I saw it on trade lists in the 90's. Perhaps that's where Hoodstock's recording of "Freaks" comes from? I'm looking forward to hearing his reply...

I was reading Chad's blog "An answer to a question" again this morning and noticed that there are two Churchbox sessions. One in 1993 and the other in 1996.

OutToDry has already posted info about the 1996 Churchbox demo but here's what Chad wrote about the 1993 session. Unless this was a typo, I would hope that both sessions will be included in the forthcoming release... Any comments?

QUOTE

THROWING COPPER CHURCHBOX DEMO, 1993 (Columbia, PA) age, 23yrs.
MEDIA FORMAT: DAT
Jay Sorrentino and Ken Heitenmuller were the rhythm section for Suddenly Tammy as amazing trio out of Lancaster, PA. Ed was dating Beth Sorrentino, Jay’s sister and singer/pianist for Suddenly Tammy. They had purchased an amazing run-down church with the original organ still intact. They helped to record a raucous demo that includes; Iris, I Alone, All Over You, Selling The Drama & I Alone. After Gary Kurfirst took a listen, he told us that we didn’t have a song for the album! Jerry Harrison was brought in to rescue to album (he changed very, very little) and Gary finally released our recording fund. This demo clearly shows the bands growth from touring endlessly for Mental Jewelry. There is a new fire to each instrument.

No, the quality is not great. I can only remember listening to it a handful of times because of the crowd noise and conversations. I do recall somebody yelling out something (like play a real song) during the start of the second verse of Lightning Crashes because of the slow pace of the song.
