Good TV shows Options

I just got done watching the first season of Game of Thrones on HBO and absolutely loved the shit out of it. All the hype last year was for the frankly (IMO) disappointing Boardwalk Empire, but Game of Thrones has the potential to become my favorite drama TV show up there with The Wire and The Shield.

Did anyone else watch it or will watch it?

For those that don't know what it is, it's based on a series of books in the fantasy/medieval genre. It's HBO so of course they tell a pretty gritty story. The acting is fantastic with so many strong characters and multiple interweaving plot lines:

And as a side I know I jumped on this band wagon heaps late but I've always started getting into It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia and am absolutely loving it, funniest new comedy I've seen in a few years and definitely one of my favorite American comedies up there with Seinfeld and Arrested Development. Wouldn't quite put it up with my favorite 2 British comedies though being The Thick of It and Peep Show.

And of course loving my Doctor Who also which now unfortunatly is on a mid season break until September.

So what are we all currently watching? What are some of your all time favorite shows?

Game of Thrones is next on my list!

Right now I'm watching Eastbound and Down. Will Ferrel is one of the producers and plays a small part.

I just finished watching the American version of Shameles (loved it!!) and I'm about halfway through Breaking Bad (I'm behind the times on that one.)

E, guess what, we're done with the Game Of Thrones. With all of its dirt and blood and etc, it really is a masterpiece among the shit we are fed with daily on tv. God bless the net, now we can not wait for season 2

being a film and tv graduate im strangely surprised to realise i dont watch tv. Havent watched it for about 4 years, save for a few minutes here and there in the early morning for a weather or "news" update before work. I do spend 3 to 4 hours a day on youtube though so kinda the same thing but i get to choose what i watch, and i just havent had the desire to get involved in scripted drama lately. its all fake.

i was at a mateshouse today though and he played me 2 episodes from a show called bob's burgers, anyone heard of it? I found it to be very amusing and endearing, almost like the simpsons was all those years ago before toilet humour and explicit profanity laced cartoons became the standard.

I'm currently looking for my next long term TV series (something like Lost or Prison Break) where there are 22 - 24 episodes a season and has the potential to run for multiple years. Any recommendations?

Have you seen either The Wire or The Shield? I couldn't recommend either of them enough, they're so different from each other and great for various reasons. I love that the original intended stories in both shows got to play out exactly as The creators hoped. Other than that Battlestar Gallactica is great, Rome, Oz, Deadwood. All great dramas.

I'm looking forward to Breaking Bad starting again this weekend but like you Dan im looking for my next show that I don't have to wait week to week for. I'm thinking Life on Mars (UK version) which I keep meaning to watch.

Life on Mars was such a brilliant series. But then the end was a bit pants. The story was continued in Ashes to Ashes, which grew into a pretty good series. But then the end was fucking horrendous and terrible and fucking shit and ruined everything with its wank fest of spunk dribbling bollocks. Fuck the fuck off with that ending.

That's because anyone who says anything bad about the wire "disappear". The first season throws you in the deep end a bit and you suffer from "wow i have no idea who all these people are, whats a stringer bell??" but its worth sticking with. I think it helps that the writers were formerly involved with one being in the police force and the other a reporter that dealt with crime, so they have actual hands on experience writing, that and half the damn cast that are the "bad guys" are also ex-cons who are basically just playing themselves, gives you a great sense of realisim.

The Shield is great too, I fell into the trap of thinking "oh its just another wise-ass action drama with a main character who is a cop but morally corrupt, oooo exciting". But its really one of the most gripping shows I can imagine with some of the best character developments since .... the wire It has an amazing story that got to be told from start to finish exactly how the creator wanted it to.

I started watchuing Dr Who from the last season. And let me tell you I was overimpressed and started spinning the previous seasons as well to get into it a bit.

Lovveee Dr Who. But I can't watch the old pre 2005 stuff. Even from 2005-2009 there were some shocking episodes, but some gems hidden in the mix. Then when Moffat took over as the head writer and Matt Smith as the Doctor in 2009, man did that kick the quality of the show up another whole gear. Gotta suspend disbelief a bit but such a good show to get sucked into.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaabsofuckinglutely my friend! Seconded! You know what, after I dug Matt Smith's [art. I was really aware that Tennant could not be another doctor for me. But oh my god how brilliant he was! We watched only 1 season with him for now and we will move back now (just like River Song gheghe)
