Looks like TGF will be the special guests for Cinder Road's farewell show at the Recher. Haven't been to that place in years but I plan on being there for TGF!

If I can ditch my Phillies tickets for that night, I will be there. I've been dying for some new shows.

Any idea if we'll get a full set or a 35/45 minute opening slot?

They are just opening for Cinder Road. I guess it won't be a complete set. I will be rocking out though. Hopefully the band will be hanging out since they are just opening. I will also have the Nikon D700. 24-70mm f2.8 lens, 50mm f1.4 lens and 85mm f1.8 lens with me and will take many photos that will appear on my website.

Can you try and get a photo of the entire band? Their wiki page needs a new band photo. In order for wikipedia to accept a photo it needs to be uploaded to a site like Flickr and have the photo flagged as "some rights reserved" or "no known copyright restrictions".
Thanks smile.gif

Edit: A new Kevin pic is also needed. The one on the TGF wikipedia page was taken even before TGF were formed...

That will be my mission.

Mission = Fail. This venue was so small and dark and had such poor lighting that it was impossible to get photos. All of the lighting was behind the stage, shining on the performers from the back. They were actually performing in the dark for the most part. It was light shooting photos of a train coming at you in a cave with the lights bearing down on you right in your face.

Anyway - as for the review.

TGF was the opening act for Cinder Road. Before TGF, was an incredibly loud metal band with a lead singer who could sing like Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden and did a pretty great rendition of Welcome to the Jungle by GNR. But they were so loud. Sonically, it was a hot mess, and I'm pretty sure that the reverberations of the bass in my chest restarted my cardiac rythm every time the guy hit the strings.

Then came TGF. TGF was Clark Kent tonight. What I mean is that Clark Kent was Superman. But when he put on the glasses and was under cover, he was Clark Kent. He was still 6' 4", good looking, strong as hell, had all of his super powers and was made of steel. But he was Clark Kent and nobody knew he was Superman.

TGF was incognito meaning that TGF played and I bet many people did not know that they were seeing 3/4s of Live and 2 members of Candlebox. It was never said. There was no point made that this band was made up of seasoned professionals who have sold millions of albums and played in stadiums. In fact, TGF just kept thanking Cinder Road and saying that they were there for their "Farewell" of a great band. But anyone who was there knew that they were seeing a band that knew what the hell they were doing. This was a band comprised of guys who have played before tens of thousands of people and tonight they were playing on a small stage in a dive bar in Towson Maryland.

Matt Gracey comes out and brings sets up the instruments and sound check. Setlist on the floor. The guitar collections and pedals. I've seen Live get set up many times and they are professional and perfectionists about the sound and set up. This was no ordinary opening band.

So everybody but Kevin comes out and takes up their instruments and they start a bit of a jam before Appetite. And then Kevin comes out and Appetite is off and running! They sounded great! Especially after the band that came before them.

Not a whole lot to say about the set. It was short. They played most of the big songs and the Depeche Mode song. I really love watching Taylor and Sean play off of each other and they did a bunch of that. Kevin sounded great. Sonically, the one thing that stood out was how great the rythm guitar part coming from Chad sounded. It was really clear and added so much dimension.

Two things I thought I heard, but I'm not sure. At the end of one song - I forget which one - I swear I thought I heard Kevin singing the Stones Song Gimme Shelter - the part that goes "It's just a shot away". Also, the last song they played was Honest Man, and I swear I heard Kevin or someone singing with the distorted effect the last part of White Discussion that goes "I prepared you, I told you what to expect". It was so loud that I'm not sure that is what I heard. But I started to wish that the band would mix in the musical part of White Discussion at the end.

I kept wondering what CCP were thinking. Was it cool to go back to the roots and play like this? Or do they wonder how they went from playing Pink Pop in front of and ocean of people and now they are opening for Cinder Road in this little concert hall?

But they sounded great. The music was great. And then they left the stage after a short set and that was it. It was like when Clark Kent uses his super powers to help Lois Lane and no one even knows that underneath those glasses, he is super.

Good review! The first band was awful, don't know their name and I didn't watch them, but I did listen from the other room. Not even worth seeing. Cinder Road I was never really a fan of, nice guys, just too Bon Jovi-ish for my taste.

TGF was awesome, as usual and yes you did hear some Gimme Shelter, but I also don't remember what song it was in.

Some video

Guilty Fever

Memphis/Taylor solo

1 more coming..........
