Simple Creed should be the first song they ever play in any concert anywhere - everytime.

World Dreamer - really, negative rep on that statment?

If you were at the show I attended I think you'd agree 100% with my statement.

I guess you don't like SC dude.

1) Why are there songs not on the CD that are on the DVD?

Check the wikipedia article that Dan linked to.
However, the article says :
QUOTE
"White, Discussion" and "Shit Towne" were also played at the Paradiso show but were cut out from the DVD/CD.

Those weren't the only songs that didnt make the dvd, too bad.

For example, Sofia, TDAOC, Voodoo Lady (if I remember correctly) and some others.
Funny cooincidence is that TDAOC - the song that many in this thread should be the opener - was one of the last songs. I don't rembember if they played Mystery RTTW that night, now I think about it.

Leaving Sofia (which had a very cool buil-up intro), Shit Towne and especially White, Discussion, is a f*cking crime. Ecpecially when Wings was added instead of them.

Exactly. In fact, they played 25 (!) songs the night the DVD was shot. These are all missing from the DVD/CD:
  • Waitress
  • Iris
  • Run to the Water
  • White, Discussion
  • Sofia
  • Voodoo Lady
  • The Dam At Otter Creek
  • Shit Towne

It was said that they had to cut down on the number of tracks in favor of audio/video quality of the dvd. I've no idea if this makes any sense though.

lol such a shame because they are all by far some of their better songs in concert (that they at least played regularly/semi regularly). With that whole cool church setting imagine a really brooding an awesome intro like TDAOC *sigh*

Anyone have those videos? They should have made a double....that would fit the bill as career spanning but perhaps the record label worked their nonesense again.

Some of these songs would have completely changed the vibe of the show.

Who knows, maybe this list is a future holiday gift...so maybe we see them in about 30-40 years?

Haha, oh no, I'm quite sure leaked pro-recordings have never been on youtube. There's a chance they didnt even created full videos of each of the left off songs with the footage of all cameras, as they knew they wouldnt make the DVD anyway.

My friends who went to those shows said that TDAOC was absolutely wicked with Ed having a megafone like in LJ and screaming the hell out of his lungs during that one

Theoretically this is correct, the more footage you put on a DVD (after a certain point) the lower the quality of the video but I will do the figures tonight and report back.

How many minutes do you think these extra 8 tracks would have taken up?

Well, at least half an hour. The whole show was recorded so the extra tracks are our there, though possibly unmixed and unedited.

As Dutch fan club we've tried to get hold of the missing material but it never got through because of legal difficulties, especially after the breakup.

Just re-reading chads reply to our letter again, seems there were massive problems prior to the shooting of this DVD. As heartbreaking as it is, it really does make for GREAT reading for a live fan lol.gif

"I made a personal resolution to let Live in Ed’s hands. I no longer responded to emails and I limited my participation in every way possible. I would try and be a professional musician. Show up, play my 12 notes and return home with as little drama as possible. We filmed Live, at the Paradiso in two nights. When I saw the magic that was on camera, I was overcome by emotion. We had documented the energy and efforts of a 20-year career together. The photographs captured it too and they are some of my favorites. When the album artwork showed up with Chad, Patrick and I in black and white and Ed in color it shot pain through my veins but I held back.

For some reason on that tour Ed would complain about the tuning of my guitar each and every night in the dressing room following the show. He would call Patrick at all hours of the night asking if we sounded okay. I had long talks with the techs. I begged someone to give me anything tangible that I could work on or fix. The board tapes sounded fine but the constant complaining was driving me mad. It was sucking the life out of me on stage. Ed demanded that we return to having a keyboardist, as it would be easier for him to sing to “solid” notes. I agreed and suggested a few options. At this point I was reaching for anything that would change the tension and heal the dynamic between Ed and the band."

It was simply criminal to leave out White, Discussion. That should have been the show-closer. No questions asked. Also, Simple Creed might get people's attention because of the decent riff, but it really isn't worth the praise it gets beyond that, in my opinion. The lyrics are trashy as fuck, and even a little bit pansy.

Ug, it hurts to read that again. Makes me nuts.

I would love to have the entire Paradiso concert on DVD. Even better - on Bluray.

Have I mentioned how great it is to watch Paradiso on my 123" Stewart Firehawk G3 theater screen, projected from my Sony 1080p projector, blasting all around me on my Definitive Technology speakers, amplified on my Denon receiver, in the comfort of my soft leather theater seats? It's like bring there. I have to go back and watch it again this weekend. I may be psyched up after the TGF show Friday night!
