QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Apr 26 2011, 9:14 pm) *

So fire Kevin and call it Live?

I don't think it would work. Just go back and listen to Chad backing up on MTV Unplugged. It just wouldn't really be Live. The fact is that Ed has such a unique voice it can't truely be replaced.

If it doesn't work out release the B-Sides and move on with TGF.

My suggestion is that if Ed won't come back, then what? CCP own the name Live and can go on. Should Live go away for good? Should they get another lead singer? I think that CCP should own it, reinvent it, and go on with the three of them. Why do I say this? Because I really like Ain't No Use. Maybe the three of them have more of that in the tank. If so, I'd like to hear it. And why not under the monicker Live if Ed refuses to ever come back and Live is going to die anyway? Why go on as Live? Because they would have a better shot at getting noticed as a reinvented Live than they would as some new band with a new name. TGF is having a hard time finding traction for that reason.

And I think they should also continue with TGF.

When you consider the amount of b-sides material that exists, the guys could likely put out 2 or 3 releases under the name Live without ever recording new material. Think about it:

MJ/TC era stuff - almost an album there that we know of
SS era - we've been promised this already, I'm assuming the hold-up is making it an official release rather than just a download.
TDTH era - we know about at least half an album of material that was cut, and there could be more.
V and later - I can't imagine there being a lot of leftover material from these albums, and I also can't imagine anyone wanting to hear it.

I would guess that each of these albums would sell at least 50-100,000 copies worldwide. They could even do one double disc album and probably sell that much or more. There are a lot of smaller record companies like Rhino who would be glad to sign the band to that kind of b-sides release deal for guaranteed sales.

The problem is that after BOP and SFBM the Live name is completely in the shit. They would need to find a way to promote it that doesn't involve EK. Mix those considerations in with the CT book that may come out, I think the band could do a sweet book tour and hit radio stations across the country to release the material. If a song like "Hold Me Up" were used as a single then it could get the band enough attention to make it worth their while. The record industry has changed so much that this alternate touring idea could work out really well.

I'm not saying there is huge audience for this, but I do think there are labels out there who would jump for the guaranteed sales of such a release. If marketed correctly a lot of fans of TC era Live might be willing to give it a shot.

I'm just dreamin' though.

I would love to see Live as a trio but hardly with blues-country only really.

The just call it TGF or something else. It's not really Live.

Man, these "future of Live" threads really depress me, let alone are unrealistic. I mean everyone's talking about moving pieces around, replacing parts, repackaging, rebranding, when the true "essence" of the band we all grew to love is forever gone-and it's been gone for over a decade. Live can never be a bastardization of it's former self. That would be a blatant insult to both the original band and its fans. Hey, I'm all for releasing "B-sides", etc. But, it's over for our favorite band and has been for a long time. That "passion", that "essence" that we loved from Live is now residing in TGF and for that I am grateful. Some of you may even feel this with Ed's new material, which is cool too. I didn't mean to crap all over this thread. I just feel my expectations would be too high and would hate to be let down.

Well said Indy, its the real truth. It can't come back to what it was over 10 years ago. It's been bottled and sold and now we have the memories!!!

Ed is playing in York on May 31. I realize that is two whole months before July - but perhaps they could get together and talk then?!?!

It would be interesting, but I don't expect to see any movement.

Ex-Live frontman Ed Kowalczyk to perform in York May 31
Daily Record/Sunday News
Updated: 05/06/2011 10:50:23 AM EDT

York, PA - Ed Kowalczyk, former Live frontman, will perform May 31 at the Waterway Bar and Grill, 220 W. Philadelphia St., York.
The show is sponsored by WQXA-FM (105. 7 the X). For details, call 845-4773 or visit www.waterwaybar.com.

Public Affection, the band that would later become Live, formed in 1984 at York's Edgar Fahs Smith Middle School. After about two decades of platinum albums, Live -- Kowalczyk, Patrick Dahlheimer, Chad Gracey and Chad Taylor -- announced a hiatus in July 2009. Kowalczyk is now focused on his solo career.

Dahlheimer, Gracey and Taylor are now in the band The Gracious Few. The X presents the band at a Guitar Bar event May 24 at The Drinkin Bone in Wormleysburg.

Kowalczyk performed an acoustic show October 2009 at York's Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center. Read an interview with him before that show: www.flipsidepa.com/musicdirectory. He released a solo CD "Alive" in July 2010.

For details about Kowalczyk, visit edkowalczyk.com.

I'm not really sure why The X would sponsor the event, as there is no way in hell they would play anything off of his new album.

The Waterway is a bar I won't be going to anytime soon, as a friend of mine was shot and killed outside of it last July.
