QUOTE(Bremang @ Mar 23 2011, 10:39 pm) *

Just because bands can make more than 4 great albums doesn't mean it should be expected of anyone. Also, while singers in your example are great songwriteres, they don't bring the rock like Ed did. And I guess it would be an OK compromise if Ed toned down but still made great softer songs. But most resentment comes from the lack of quality rock music from Ed.

I'd say this video from a few years ago of Stipe and R.E.M. is plenty rocking, pushing 50 years old. It would have been nice if Ed and Live had aged like this as a band. Again, not expected, just would have been great. Maybe they'll get together and get some of the old mojo back some day. There's plenty of time.

Edit: Stipe is pushing 50 in this video and Mills and Buck are in their early 50's. Not bad for a bunch of old men. Also, this was on 2008's Accelerate, proving they can write and perform rocking tunes at that age. Just sayin.

I'd love for you to find it. It's one that I need for my collection. Please convert it if you can. Remember how hot it was that day and evening?

I'm actually in the middle of a trade with that guy on youtube for this and the 1995 Munich show on DVD-R, so will upload them both once I receive them thumbsup.gif

Here is the thing that bothers me about Ed. It isn't whether he stole from his friends or didn't. It isn't that he took over the band's creative process and, consequently, the quality of Live's music went down-hill. It is the Toto effect. In Wizard of Oz, the Wizard was a great and powerful Oz who seemed to have all the answers. He told Dorothy and the others to go get the broomstick of the witch and bring it back to him and they did it. And then Toto pulled back the curtain and revealed that the Wizard of Oz was just a fraud and a huckster. Just a guy behind the curtain using smoke and mirrors. He said, I'm not a bad man, just a bad wizard. Now I'm not saying that Ed is a wizard or that I held him up as some kind of god or leader or guru. I just thought that he was a greatly inspired creative genius. I thought that he was authentic and humble and an egoless artist. He wrote lyrics that challenged me to stretch myself and grow. He wrote lyrics that challenged each of us to change the whole world. He seemed like a rock n roll guy who wouldn't sell out his musical integrity for commercial success. It didn't seem like his creative well would ever run dry. He wasn't the kind of guy who would sell coffee with his kids' faces on it or reprints of a stick figure for $200 or sell his own jewelry or sell phone conversations with himself like some erotic sex-phone whore. I didn't think I would see him be a jerk to some of his fans or to me personally. I didn't think he would become so insincere in his interviews and lack such self-assessment about the tone and quality of his music. He didn't seem like the kind of guy who I would see blow off his band mates backstage. But he did... When Ed started milking his audience, and lost his ability to write great music, and it became apparent why V, BoP and SFBM demonstrated such a marked difference from the first 4 albums, Toto pulled back the curtain. Ed is still a good vocalist, just not a very good Wizard anymore. Of course, in the end, "Oz" helped Dorothy get home. I would like to click my silver slippers and magically get the 4 members of Live to write music together and have a reunion. Until then, I will "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" unless he is playing acoustic sets of live songs...

Don't think anyone can say otherwise there Fish. You have a way with words. That's a good analogy if there ever was one.

QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Mar 23 2011, 4:05 pm) *

Live getting back together would just be an attempted moneygrab for CCP. When they thought The Gracious Few was going to draw in crowds, they tore Ed apart publicly. Now since their tours weren't good financially, they are trying to push for a Live reunion tour.

After what was said, Ed has every right not to go back to Live. It is sad that CCP may kill the brand by going the new singer route.

You have to be the biggest wank on these boards....You were batting yourself off the other week at a possible reunion and now, you turn back on the rest of the band because it aint happening.

And saying brand is so fucking pathectic.....ITS A BAND DUMBARSE. aggressive.gif
Pretty sure CT said its been 2 years since the break and will contact ED to see where it is at.
Thats all......

+P.S. Love your post Fish

MUst bump this as the note has been edited recently:

QUOTE
We also know how much you want to see a reunion too and we made efforts to try and meet with Ed. Unfortunately, it's not the right time for the original lineup to come together. Ed remains committed to his solo efforts and we've been busy promoting The Gracious Few (all of us spending some much needed time with our families). At this point, everything remains positive between Chad, Patrick, Ed and I and we deeply appreciate your support throughout the hiatus. We can sympathize with your angst surrounding Ed's departure. His magical lyrics touched all of our lives for so many years. On many levels he can never be replaced. Only Ed can determine his future and right now he is unresponsive regarding LIVE; so we must move forward. ** (edit): If I didn't make it clear, we want Ed as the vocalist for LIVE - no questions there & no, we're not trying to replace him (that's friggin' impossible). We're simply saying that LIVE can move forward in the meantime - maybe the next LIVE album will be an instrumental or better yet, spoken word by Dahlheimer (-;

As much as I love the music of the boys I just don't think the can carry a whole album of instrumental music the way they write. They write songs. Songs that need vocals. Unless they go all out and fool around with all sorts of time changes and progressions of techy proggy stuff (oh how I wish) it will just sound like unfinished songs. I'm still waiting for Pat to throw down cause this mofo is a capable beast of all things bass in my eyes.
