I think his lack of aggression and reliance on falsetto since 2000 has more to do with him becoming a pussy than him losing the ability. whistle.gif

You still admit here that Ed lost his vocal ability. This bars him from having aggressive vocals....obviously.

And falsetto is not a reliance.

Maybe Ed wouldn't have been unresponsive to a Live reunion if he wasn't thrown under the bus publicly.

Live without Ed will be an epic fail.

Just like TGF? I'm open to hearing what they could put together!

What it will end up doing is hurting the Live brand as a whole. Look what happened to Fuel when they replaced their singer. The album didn't sell and they called it quits after one poorly received tour.

V, BOP, and SFBM aleady did hat damage!

QUOTE(Bremang @ Mar 25 2011, 2:40 pm) *

riiiiiiight.....You have been emphasizing in all your previous posts that Ed lost his vocal ability. Now you're saying he never lost his ability and that he just chooses not to be aggressive.

I expect different opinions about all sorts of things, but when someone says that Ed's vocals are not disabled, I just can't possibly see how someone thinks that Ed can still pull of the vocals he had SS and prior.

He probably can't pull it off like he used to but he might suprise you. Look at Cornell. Dude was a lot harder on his voice than Ed ever was. Then I hear Soundgarden is getting back together and I think "Oh shit, how is he gonna pull this off? His voice is trashed." Next thing I know I'm drunk and playing "Beyond the Wheel" on an endless loop because it blew me away. How many Soundgarden fans were saying exactly what some of the Live fans are saying now? I don't know how many but I am guessing it's the same number that shit themselves when they heard "Beyond the Wheel" for the first time, me included (not literally).

Now, don't get me wrong. Cornell isn't what he used to be but no one would be after decades of kicking so much ass. That just comes with it. But Cornell, after all this time, can still deliver a pretty damn good rock performance. The difference is he wants to.

I think if Ed wanted to he could give the older songs a pretty good run. Identical to SS and before? No. But respectable? Yes. The question, to me, is does he even want to? Doesn't seem like it.

The difference is that I don't think Ed's voice is "trashed" anymore. He went through a rough period where his voice really was failing him. Now his voice is just different. I think that's partly his psyche in this is how he wants to sing and partly just a natural change. Everyone's body is different to how it will react. Just because Cornell can doesn't mean Ed can. All I'd ask from Ed in a Live reunion performance-wise, is not to push his voice into falsetto mode because it doesnt suit him. Supernatural circa MTV is what suits him. That shit sends chills down my spine. He might have lost the agression in the voice, he might not be able to maintain it ... I don't know, I think there's probably not any one single reason.
Just, don't push your voice where it's not meant to go.

No, I am saying that he isn't aggressive because he doesn't WANT to be, not because he CAN'T.

You've already pointed out all the reasons why Soundgarden/Chris has nothing to do with the fact that Ed's voice shit the bed. You can't expect it to come back. It is also spoiled to expect that Ed should be able to write what you consider to be respectable music. For whatever reason Ed has chosen his new direction, it would be difficult to say that it wasn't brought on by the fact that his voice has gone and he has daughters to face, and he's in his 30's and 40's.

but you were quantifying becoming a pussy vs. him losing the ability. Comparing how Ed was losing his ability obviously pertains to some degree that Ed "CAN'T" sing aggressive vocals.

In any case, good luck trying to sing new aggressive songs without physically being able to have aggressive vocals. That could easily be why he's decided to change his style. Animosity toward him for finding a new way to stay in the game is not very sympathetic. It sucks for us but I can't blame the guy for that.

Whether or not he could come up with some new rock tunes in a collaborative effort with Live is debatable to me, but not from a vocal capability point.

I guess you think the Grace vocals show his capability of being able to have good rock vocals.

I have to agree with the above videos. To what degree is Ed to blame for the 2009 show? I think its more like a dog that's been barking hard for too long and is just really old in dog years. That shit is a 15 year difference.

Whatever dude. I guess you think he's completely incapable of doing anything rock because he can't sing like he did 15 years ago. I'm willing to give him a chance, only if he would surrender himself to the process with 3 other guys who clearly want to rock. If he'd allow himself to be influenced and tap into something that may inspire him to try to rock, then I'd give it a shot. And by the way, who said anything about liking Grace, not a fan. Just because I think the guy might be able to "sing" a rock song doesn't mean I like what he's done for the past 10 years.
