What makes me feel like crying is watching those old videos and knowing that even if Live did get back together they would never again be able to capture what they once had. That's why I don't think they should even try. Ever.

But to me, Live at the 50% level of what we see in those videos is still better than anything else in the world at 100%.

I saw Live 3 or 4 times in the last year they were together. They had Wings and Sofia and Mystery in the set list. But they also had Iris and Hold Me Up and Mirror Song in the Set list too. And I must say that there was NOTHING in the world better than moments throughout a Live concert that gave you goosebumps.

That moment at the begining of the concert when the lights were out and the intro music started and you saw the band coming out and picking up their instruments and the crowd saw their shadows and started to cheer.

The first chord of the first song.

The chorus of They Stood Up For Love when you actually got what it means when Ed sang "to the One".

The middle of Lightening Crashes when you felt like crying and you weren't even sure why.

The performance of I Alone - a song you've heard 10,000 times and it stills blows your mind every time. Especially the bridge, where Gracey was showcased, and Ed sampled in other songs - and you knew that the band would soon ramp it back up and bring it home.

The stomping and jumping at the end of Lakini's Juice when those 2 simple chords get played over and over again in such a perfect way and the sheer energy blows your mind.

And if you are really lucky, and you've been a good crowd, you get rewarded with White Discussion at the end. And the experience is so surreal, that you swear God could take you right then and there and you wouldn't even care.

I got that at every concert. And it was 2008 and 2009 when they barely even spoke to each other and Ed was on another planet. I can't imagine what it must have been like in 1995. But I will still take the 2009 Live concert experience over anything else, every day of the week.

He he. Dude I will never let Live go. Never. I really love TGF. But I swear, I will be visiting this Live message board 40 years from now, when I can't even find a piece of technology to play my Live cd's and mp3's anymore and there are only 3 of us who even remember who Live was. I will still be here and I'll remember those concerts like they were yesterday. I'll be like Rambo at the end of the movie, when Trautman says to him "It's over Johnny. It's over." and Rambo says "Nothing is over! Nothing! You don't just turn it off!"

That pretty much sums up everything I think only said a million times better than I could thumbsup.gif

Their last show at the Starland Ballroom was one of my favs (1st time playing Hold Me Up, the inclusion of Gas Head, Top, Purifier, one of the best versions of The Distance I've ever heard, etc.) If Live never got back together again, I'm glad that was the last concert I saw because that's how I want to remember them. Now...Ed, Chad, Chad, and Pat if you read this...feel free to get back together if your friendship is reconciled...I'll be there rockin.gif

In my signature there is a shameless plug for my completely redesigned website (different than what I posted a few weeks ago).

My photo gallery of images from that 2009 show in Sayerville is right here: Sayerville 2009

There is also a gallery from the House of Blues in 2009 too. One of the last shows they performed. They don't look like bad concerts do they?

I have a totally different experience. During the last years that I saw them live I didn't feel any of those things anymore. The magic was gone and personally I don't want to see Live at 50% I've seen them at 100% and I'm not settling for anything less. TGF gives 100% at every show I've seen them do and I'll take that over half assed Live every single time!

Great posts, Fish. Outstanding breakdown that I almost completely agree with! Aitkens, that version of LJ has been one of my favorites for years. God, that is pure passion and raw rock (that is ACTUAL rock...not the shit on Ed's new album).

Even with TGF now, I find myself listening to Live all the time. They were and are THE band for me in my life. Their first 4 albums for me were mind-blowing and life-altering, without exaggeration.

I would love to see Live get back together but ONLY if they all had a collective creative voice. I think one thing sometimes we fail to remember about Ed, though, is that he literally cannot sing the same way he did from 1991-2000. Don't get me wrong, the man is an amazing vocalist for his range, but the tenacity of the voice from the days of Live that I adore are just not there anymore. I legitimately believe that Ed would not be able to use that deep, almost screaming voice anymore - his vocal cords won't let him.

But that doesn't mean he can't make GREAT music that he can sing to. I'll give an example. On the last tour, they started playing "Hold Me Up" again (what a tragedy that this wasn't released). Ed's voice didn't have the same ferocity as it did in 94-95', but he and the band actually sounded great doing that song! Which tells me mostly that we can't just blame Ed's music on the fact that he can't sing, its the songs he writes! They are just not ROCK anymore, and frankly most are not good songs!

Again, I'm all for a reunion if the guys were genuinely interested in recording with each other again as friends. But ONLY if the creative juices come from all 4.

Let's get nuts and go all the way back to 1992, if you want to see where these guys came from literally and figuratively. Negation - one of my absolute favorites. These guys were hungry and had nothing to lose. They were raw, unfiltered and awake.

Are these lyrics ironic now?

I've been to every book
I've been to every seer
In order to find the truth
As if it lives somewhere

I want to uproot my violence
I want to live like a saint
I want to give up everything

Just like the businessman wants to gain
Just like the businessman wants to gain
