stand.

Hey that's the name of Eds new single! Buy it soon for too much money!

I think Nick with his "general concert goer" comment sums it up. He needs music and gigs catered for the lowest common denominator. In reality these people shouldn't be catered for. They should be ignored. If the "general concert goer" can't keep up with the band there're paying money to go and see then that's their problem. No band should have to sit around going "hmm there's gonna be some people in the crowd that haven't been paying attention to us lately. They just want to hear what we wrote 15yrs ago rather than listen to where we are at now. We should definitely cater for these guys".
I mean if you were an artist and were performing and people were yelling for songs you wrote in college rather than what you're writing now wouldn't you be kinda pissed off?

Ed caters to these people. TGF doesnt. TGF are obviously not taking the easy route and more respect for that. They're not trying to still live off past glories. They know music doesn't revolve around money and are happy just sharing where they are at I'm their lives now. Not where they were in 1994.

Sadly Pokey, some think that reasoning is silly, but that's who TGF is. It's not about the money.

QUOTE(Aitkens @ Jan 28 2011, 7:59 pm) *

I'm still in the boat that doesn't want Live to get back together. I'm over that part of my life. I've seen what a prick bastard EK is, and I don't want to see it once again.

I'll take Kevin Martin over EK every single day of the week. Kevin is a much better front man, and has a much more dynamic range to his voice.

By the way, TGF out drew EK at The Chameleon Club shows in Lancaster, PA. So much for that "hometown" love for EK and his bullshit religious propaganda that he parades around.

Are you for real? Better range? Statements as obsurd as that indicate you are heavily biased and render your post invalid. You can say you like his voice much more but to state an INCORRECT fact like that gives you no credibility.

Oh and by the way, I don't know much about what has occured overseas but Ed's been played all over the radio for the last few months now in Australia and everyone knows his songs. No one has heard of TGF. Now whilst the US generally considers us irrelevant, I think Ed has blown TGF away in the Netherlands also which no one can argue is insignificant.

Without reading this thread, I would never have stopped to compare the two as they are completely different bands now but if you were to "try" and compare them, then in my opinion its a one horse race i'm afraid.

Definitely a one horse race in 2 ways.

Ed wins Quantity, TGF wins Quality smile.gif

As for range, Ed now has a very limited range. He way too oftens trys to go outside where he should go and it doesn't work for the most part. True he's gotten better than it was a few years back where he was just butchering everything. But still, Ed's range is not as good as people think. KM to me is also doesn't have the hugest range, but he works better with what he's got than Ed does now. He doesn't sound like he pushes himself as much. Ed in the 90s absolutely had his range and sung within it, it was mind blowingly good. I think Ed carries a note better, he can elongate his words in song a bit better with a little more melody. I think KM is able to go higher and lower more often without his voice cracking though like Ed's.

this coming from the dude who said Sean cant play guitar??

as far as the Netherlands...TGF will find out soon enough AND I would wager the people who LOVE +LIVE+ will be there with bells on welcoming the band!
JUST WAIT!

this F in BS with whos better, whos drawing more people is LAME
ED is playing +LIVE+ songs and will draw a crowd cause he is playing LIVE songs

TGF will take time and anyone who has seen or heard the band CANNOT help but fall for the music and just meet Kevin and there is no way you cant like him
he is personable, friendly, gracious and the best frontman for this project HANDS DOWN!

CCP are the ingredients in the MEATLOAF...Pat is the EGG, Sean is the KETCHUP, Chad G is the MEAT, Chad T is the bread crumbs and Kevin is the spices! rockin.gif

now as far as who is #1 on the charts........(please remember I NEVER took sides in this ugly breakup nor will I)...

As I've heard it since the 90s when I loved both of these bands, Kevin has a much higher range full voice than Ed. That is absolutely indisputable. Ed does better reaching into the low end, but he has to hit into that falsetto much sooner in the higher register.

That isn't a knock on Ed, what I always loved about his voice was the low end and the way he emoted with it. Range was never really his best asset.

Now, you could argue completely unobjectively over who has the better range in the (completely different) keys they sing in, but range is most popularly measured in what high notes the voice can hit and Kevin has that in the bag. For one example, the reason KM struggled so much with Lakini's Juice was because the song was too low.

"he is personable, friendly, gracious and the best frontman for this project HANDS DOWN!"

Forgot quality talent was no longer required my mistake.

And regarding the later comment on range I don't know if you have any experience in the field or whether your a novice but I don't know what music ur listening to. He is absolute mono tone he didn't struggle through lakini's juice because it was too low he just has one weak note and we're used to better than that. No artist will blame the song for being too low anyway because any decent band will lift or drop a key to suit the lead. He doesn't sing from the diaphram anyway so he is never going to belt out the lyric regardless and is always going to get lost in anything but quiet moments.

I'm sorry I hope CCP take off and are successful because I want double the music that live gave us but TGF will not be that vehicle.

Who knows maybe ed will run out of riffs & tgf want to upgrade vocals & they can do an album remotely without meeting.....ah who am i kidding?!!

Kevin Martin admits he doesnt like his voice...most artists DONT like their voice..the great thing about making music, the sounds are all different and so are the vocals of all the artists out there....what makes them "unique" is their own style and Kevin Martin has "his own style".....I was never much of a fan of Candlebox for whatever reason BUT, I am a fan of The Gracious Few and Kevin Martin...his "unique: style makes him a perfect frontman for this project...as a singer myself, I have always dug Ed's vocals I must say and to this date cover alot of LIVE , I cant sing Candlebox songs well for KM range is much higher and his style is hard to match...no need to bash anyone here since they are all rock stars and have had huge success doing what they love...more power to all of them and the best of luck to both projects although I am REALLY digging this Gracious Few project!
