QUOTE(Aitkens @ Jan 29 2011, 7:54 am) *
If the home town fans aren't coming out to see you, clearly you've done things to burn those bridges. Even if a good portion of that crowd is aware that you're playing greatest hits, they still didn't come out to show as much support.

If a band I've seen 10 times is playing near my hometown, I could pass it up because I've seen em so many times, but that wouldn't mean I don't like the band. I think its hard to consider all the factors, maybe your stats on attendance would be more convincing. It would be a little surprising if Lancaster does not like Ed Kowalczyk in the way you suggest.

Does EK vs. TGF attendance at the Chameleon Club have anything to do with whether Lancaster likes EK?

No, but if you're touting that a band outdrew another at the same venue, ticket price can a major factor.

It's purely the only factor you care about though. As I've said before, Ed getting paid must be the same feeling for you as watching your kids opening their presents on Christmas morning. Ain't no better feeling! When talking about a crowd it's about the energy and the vibe. TGF would clearly have this over Ed regardless of crowd size. Ed just has dead eyed people singing the same old songs for over a decade as his whole band are made to stand lifeless in the shadows at the back of the stage while he walks back and forth with bended knees making Bono like "epic" hand gesture. Can't blame people for not getting into that. But wait he went home with more money than TGF, Ed wins!

QUOTE(Pokey @ Jan 29 2011, 9:52 pm) *

TGF probably did get a lot of friends and family in. Ed probably charged his to come in. "I don't need no one, to tell me 'bout Heaven, I look at my Daughters and I say ... that'll be $40 for your ticket please"

I look at my Daughtries and I believe,.......

QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Jan 29 2011, 10:10 pm) *

How many more people did TGF draw then? Even if the drew 100 more people than Ed(which from reports is unlikely), they still had a smaller earnings gate since their tickets were half of what Ed's cost.

Sticl yer money up yer arse already

I wouldn't bet on that. Ed is playing songs that people are familar with. A general concert fan who isn't familar with TGF's album, may be bored with TGF's show. For example, the guy in San Diego yelling out for "Far Behind."

Um, nah, he was wanting to hear the candlebox song. How you say the guy is a natural concert fan is a stretch. How do you make that statement without having listened to said concert. At that point he heard 3/4ths of the album in the show if he never heard them before. You go in circles like no other.

Pokey was saying that TGF concerts have a better crowd vibe than Ed's shows, when he hasn't attended either. That was the point.

So to circle out of the truth, you go on quoting Pokey. I am postive he's looked at the hundeds of you tubes on TGF shows and perhaps compared them to the crowd participation of Ed's and made a factual point. You go with the general let me see if it sticks arguement.

You can't judge the vibe of a concert from a you tube video.

If the crowd is sounding into it, cheering, really singing along, clapping.........how can you not say you can't judge. Look at my videos.....are the good people not into this show?

You sound like a 14 year old sometimes.

So by your own logic because you haven't attended a TGF show (at least I dont think you have) then you're in no position to comment either. I don't need to have been to the show to have seen clips and such ... I went to Ed's solo show, it was just 40yr old women up the front jiggling their fatty bits around to "Sofia". That's about as lively as it got, and I can't see his full ROCK band being much different given the material they have to work with. To me, that's not a good vibe, it's a guy desperately clinging to what made him famous, it's a sad vibe.

The people that go to a TGF show are there because they know about TGF, they know for the most part they won't hear lightning crashes, so the fact that the band doesn't play that isn't a downside. They're not heavily promoting themselves as Live+Candlebox.

As for not being able to judge a crowd by the concert video, maybe that's true, you got no idea how off the charts TGF are man, all you've seen is concert videos!!!! Dude seriously, you can get a fair idea. When one band is just one dude on stage walking backwards and forwards while the rest of the band are standing still in the shadows you can bet your ass that the only people there who are excited are people who are just really easily pleased and easy to excite. People who live off nostalgia, people who aren't interested in anything new cos Ed sure as hell aint offering them that. So given that sort of atmosphere is going on, yeah I think I can make an educated guess as to what sort of vibe an Ed K concert would be.

TGF have a smaller but more loyal following, they have a vibe of people having a great night out for cheap with more money to spend at the bar (and the possibility of seeing the band at the bar too for a drink), they have people in the crowd that have been there since early in the day who have been at the sound check and are in a great fucking mood because of that because they're seeing something they've never seen or experienced before. They got guitarists jumping off amps and jumping into the crowd. They got actual stories and interactions being told and given by the lead singer rather than going to 2 Ed gigs and hearing him say the exact same thing at the exact same part of the set pretending to be spontanious. TGF is offering all brand new music to a crowd that wouldn't be there at all if they didn't know what to expect.
These's are reasons I know a TGF gig vibe would wipe the floor with 'Money' Kowalczyk's.

As a side to that, this is one thing that really shits me about some people like yourself that go to gigs. You act as if going to a gig and hearing a song that you don't already know word for word is the end of the world, your head will explode and you will just not have a good time. FUCK THAT. Music is there to be explored, it's there to learn from, to experience new things.
I was at the Big Day Out festival today and I wandered past stages of bands I'd never heard of and stopped and listend to songs I had never heard before ... and some of it I really fucking enjoyed. A couple I went straight over and bought the damn album of. You don't have to know all the songs to have a good time ... this is music for dummy's. People who don't want to open their minds and just enjoy the show, enjoy the vibe, enjoy the crowd, enjoy the music ... accept what they are hearing and just let all the experience wash over you. If you want something scripted and something that is not spontanious where you will feel safe knowing all the words, then go to a damn musical where they run to a pre written story. People who are stuck in a nostaliga pattern with music don't deserve music.
