Got my Cd today from the Seattle show as well.

Packaging is definitely quality but minimal. Don't get the sticker in the upper corner even slightly damp because it will smudge and run.

The show is sequenced straight through with no fades or editing of any kind which is great! Sound quality is really good but the vocals (and the overall mix) suffer from the dry soundboard mix syndrome as earlier referenced. As a result of the minimal reverb or any other effect on Kevin's voice, any quiver or pitchyness in his singing is noticeable. Dry soundboard mixes don't make any singer sound their best. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds really good but this is a typical problem when not enough effect or room ambience is mixed in with the direct feed. Also, while the crowd is audible, it's not representative of the energy that was in the room. The engineer simply mixes the ambience too low during the songs on the whole. In fact, you can hear the transition from the ambient mix to the direct mix in the intro of Appetite at about the 50 second mark. The in-between song banter had the ambience turned back up each time. I didn't look at the soundboard set up so I didn't see how the Abby Road folks were mixing for the Cd.

The show, as I said in my earlier review, was amazing and it definitely comes through here. It'll be interesting to see how the other shows were mixed for the remaining Cds.

Combining the terrible album covers convo from the Ed thread and big bears in this thread brings my all time favorite terrible album cover:

IPB Image

For content ... KM's voice sounded terrible in that sample, the mixing seemed really off .. I mean I know you can't expect perfection working on the fly like that, but I hope some of the others are better .. especially given the Pixies one I got was incredible.

I just got my copy of the Seattle show as well & NiTRO nailed it on the KM's vocals. VERY dry. Plus his voice sounds strained a bit as well during his yells/screams. Otherwise his voice sounds ok. I know my voice wouldn't sound good after all those shows!

It is what it is & I'm not really complaining, just making observations. cool.gif I do like the packaging of the release & one small complaint on how they ship it. I have 2 tracks of wear like where the package went thru the mail machine across the top & bottom of the cd package. Minor annoyance. Overall pleased with the purchase.

I haven' had a lot of time to check the boards, or money to invest in the cd's lately.

If anyone discovers an awesome recording please let me know which show it is. I don't want to buy a poor recording for $20.

As you wish, live2cd! Here's a snippet of Appetite and Honest Man from the Seattle show. I picked these two specifically because they're the first and second-to-last songs of the setlist, so you can tell that there was some adjustments done to the sound. However, I still think KM sounds funny.

A crying shame really. He sounded so good when he started the tour here in Toronto, I thought he was lip synching at first. His voice was utterly incredible and that description doesn't even come close to doing it justice. The best hands down vocal performance I've ever heard at any live performance. 6 of us went to the show, 3 of them musicians themselves who all play in local bands. They thought Martin was incredible as well and that Hennesey was off the charts.

I can't fucking wait to hear this band kick it again.

So I got my Showbox recording yesterday and I am pretty disappointed in the quality. I only made it through the first two tracks until I turned it off. My expectations were pretty high, so maybe that's the problem. Maybe the quality gets better, but so far it sounds like a audience recording to me. It's cool that TGF is making these shows available - so even though this did not meet my expectations I did get to support the guys. Guess I'll just have to get my lazy ass out to a show and see these guys first hand.

When you get a recording mixed in this manner, it doesn't matter who the singer is, especially when it is a singer that pushes their voice, it sounds dry, flawed and pitchy. Thus the purpose of reverb in a mix. I'm a crappy singer but the natural reverb in my shower makes me sound almost tolerable.
; )

I was at the Seattle show and Kevin's voice sounded as amazing as ever with their sound-man, Carlos, rockin' the proper PA mix. This is partially why my show review didn't sound more disappointing, because this is a fairly common problem with soundboard recordings. It's just too bad Abby Road, didn't mix this for Cd better. I hope this was corrected in the show recordings that followed.

All of this sounds a little disappointing. I'll hold on to my $20 unless somebody finds a diamond recording in the rough.

I unfortunately have to retract my review from the Seattle show. I've listened to this show on a proper set of speakers & while the PERFORMANCE is killer, the recording/mix is NOT. There is WAAAAY too much high end in this mix. Every time KM says/sings something with a "c" or a "s", there is too much sibilance & sounds very harsh. Later in the show it even sounds like the recording is made from a mp3. He is not mixed into the recording very well, some songs he's louder & some he's softer. Not too convinced right now I would buy another one of Abbey Road's shows.
