That's true, I remember when people were saying "give Ed a break, it's been a long time since he's sung Iris!!" and I said "Taylor doesn't seem to have that problem with forgetting how to play it" and yeah, it was kind of met with silence.
If you're gonna perform a song for an audience, at least have the manners to learn the word, they did pay money you know.
Hopefully by the time they come to Aus then Ed will have remembered all his lines thumbsup.gif

Am I the only one that thinks this is incredibly fucking lame? I don't know...maybe it's too much to expect them to remember the lyrics to the songs they wrote, that they're playing live...but that's like the bassist and guitarist having music stands on stage with them. Lame.

There's no point in arguing about it, but Geddy also has to play bass and keyboards, as well as run around the stage and levitate frequently. I would rather have him use a teleprompter than to flub lines. Also, remember that he did not write the lyrics to the aproximately 200 songs that Rush has in it's catalog. Neil did. And they're not "Oh Baby!" lyrics either. They are quite complex, with frequent subtle changes in phrasing.

I was at that concert. Iris was totally unplanned and the guys persuaded Ed to play it. It was an amazingly fun performance. Who cares if he didn't know all the words? We paid money and got 20 songs performed flawlessy and one song that he forgot the words on(which was even on the setlist and was a total surprise). No one complained about getting their money back, I assure you.

Holy ass. It's all the same songs they played when I saw them back in August. Except for rattlesnake and iris. They've got so many songs...they could really switch things up a lot more than this.

baby steps, mcpheeze. Baby steps wink.gif LOL

And even then, he forgot the lyrics to Walk On.

Hells yes. Now bring on some Ghost in Cleveland on Sunday!

Hell Yea! Ghost is one of my favorite songs. They better play rattlesnake in SF and Iris. They should take I Alone off their setlist and replace it with herophsychodreamer. I Alone was the 1st song I heard from Live (and its incredible!) but when I hear him sing I alone these days I cringe. It's just not the same. Great news though! thumbsup.gif

funny thing is if any of us got up there and did a concert we wouldnt forget any words to their songs. It just goes to show how much bands arent all about their music, but more about getting pissed and banging groupies.

Oh so true....did anyone read the Atlanta reviews over at FriendsofLive? It sounded almost to good to be true, they played over 2 hours!!! and sounded like everyone including the band had a great time. Now I'm nervous, can they, will they,, repeat similar shows in the future?????
They've got some tough critics over here in the Metro area so I sure as hell hope so, Starland here I come

Like I said, Taylor never had a problem with it so why should Ed have had a problem with it?
I mean honestly, who in the world can't remember the words to their own song .. little slip ups here and there are natural .. but honestly.

A song you haven't performed in over 5 years?! I'm sure it is very easy to forget. Taylor was practicing the song(he said so in a journal entry), Ed went in cold.

I agree, I kinda like it when those things happen in concert from time to time! To me that's just part of the whole live-experience! If you really want it all to be completely flawless, just put on the cd!
What really amazes me is how he always catches himself completely by surprise; take Freaks from the Paradiso gig in '97: he's just singing it, all enthusiastic, when all of a sudden, halfway a word, it strikes him that he has absolutely no idea what to sing next! lol.gif
...I love it! laugh.gif
