Ed says hes going into the studio after the tour. When asked how he got into Jesus, he said he got into Jesus about a year ago when he was looking at piece of art or a cross or something like that, which was hanging on his wall.....

I imagine him looking at some sales figures before he started to believe.

QUOTE(tiger @ Nov 10 2010, 11:36 am) *

Kind of skimmed over it. Ed sounded good, band was weak on the Live material as usual. Can't escape thinking about what could have been or what should be when I hear him do Live songs. Got to thinking, maybe they could have actually made a record. Ed talked about being inspired by gospel and Blind Willie Johnson. TGF has been inspired by delta blues and such. Not all that different in many ways. Combine the two and it could have been pretty cool.

Not to be too negative here, but I think Ed's and the rest of the bands interpretation of "ROCK" is completely different.

Before SFBM, Ed said he had being listening to System of a Down a lot and admired how hard they rocked. He even said in a few interviews that he was tired of all the cookie cutter music and wanted to get back to some real rock and roll. This excited a lot of fans big time.

Then he went out with full control and brought us SFBM??? Real rock?? He listened to SOAD and then made that record?? Thinking it was real rock and roll somehow? Any real fan of decent rock and mroll music knows that there was nothing "rock" about that entire album whatsoever. Pure pop music ala maroon 5, plain and simple.

TGF came out with their debut album, and it's crystal clear that the guys had completely different ideas as to what rock and roll consists of. I think if you ask any rock artist, present or past, if they think SFBM is rock music, they'd laugh in your face and not bother glorifying such an idiotic question with a response.

Ed wanted to take a different direction and that's all good. I hope his fans are truly enjoying it. That's what it's all about anyways isn't it??

But I think the mans perception of what "rock" actually is is so faroff that it's actually quite laughable. How anybody goes from System of a down To SFBM is way beyond me. I think a shitload of loyal long time fans gave up after hearing him say the new record was going to rock like the old days and then they hear 'La da da da...dad a dada...." .....and "oooooh baby let my loving ease your pain" I think that's when many fans started to truly realize that this guy is completely off his rocker.

In Ed's defense though, at least whenever I read about him talking of SFBM he always mentioned the album had a "stripped down" feel to it. I always took that to be a more acoustic sound. I don't remember him saying that SFBM was a "rock" album. It's possible though and I may have missed it.

But I definitely agree there was a big disconnect between the music Ed wanted and the music the guys wanted, which is good that each are now playing what they want.

I don't think Ed was being serious if he said he was going to rock on SFBM. I actually don't recall him saying SFBM was going to be rock, but if he did that was probably just marketing. I think he knows what rock is. And yea, TGF are clearly bringing the rock.

I'll try and dig up the interview, but I specifically remember Ed saying that this album was going to rock. I remember him specifically saying that he was sick of all the cookie cutter crap out there, then referencing SOAD as an example of what rock really is...then proceeding to say that the new album was going to get back to Live's roots and rock. I remember that quite clearly.

Aren't you confusing it with what Ed said during the SFBM TOUR? In that case I remember what you mean, as I indeed recall him saying 'being sick of all the cookie cutter crap out there', and being in a angry phase of songwriting.

You know, somwhere 2008, maybe early 2009, I had a lill hope Ed was really to return to a little rock n roll, although I never ever believed the claims that it would sound like the mid 90ies Ed again.

Remember that Helter Skelter duet with Daughtry (the band) early 2008? Waaw. And Purifer. And the fact that he even sang (quite popsoudning songs like Forever) with a bit of a rough voice? (performance on Ellen). And promised the 'new album' (that never made it) would be harder (I think that was actually the plan, as he was kind of pushed by Chad and his guitar riffs on Believe).

In the end it all didn't happen and we got an happier Ed as ever before ("Im the great beyyyooohooond!"). I never expected him to release tracks with quite good vocals as on Grace though.
