Just got back and had a great time at the show. I'll post a little more soon.

First of all, I didn't think I would be able to make this show and it ended up working out at the last minute. Overall - had a great time.

I called up my neighbor who's always up for a good time and off we went. He grew up only listening to country, and had never heard of TGF, Live, or Candlebox so he was going in totally blind. It was about a 45 minute drive.

The website said 7pm, and we got there around 7:45. I thought 7 was the starting time with 3 bands. We found out it was when doors opened so we left and went next door to get some food and ended up missing the opening act.

When we got back American High-Fi was setting up. All I can say about them is there whole set sounded like a wall of sound. You hear or distinguish any of the lyrics at all. We enjoyed watching the guy stage left with the curly hair cause he was bouncing his head all over the place. Guy looks like a bobble head - suprised his neck isn't sore every night. Overall I can't say if they are good or if they suck. They were simply to loud for the small venue and I'd give an epic fail to whoever did the sound check and did the mix.

TGF came on around 10:30. I thought they rocked. I really enjoyed the energy they had and the show they put on. I thought that maybe the sound issue with the opening band was intentional (I've seen it done to opening bands before) but it was the same for TGF. They were just to loud for the venue. My ears are still ringing 24 hours after the show.

I enjoyed all the songs because I've heard them numerous times and know the words, so I know what Kevin's saying, but my buddy couldn't make out most of it. Some songs, that are a little slower or lower on the guitar were easy to make out, but anytime they rocked he just had to enjoy the sound. Regardless, we both had some beers, enjoyed ourselves, and had a good time. I thought they brought it and really rocked the place.

I'd say there were probably about 50 - 60 people at the venue.

I'd have to say I was bummed out that they didn't do the "back porch set". Kevin explained at the start of the show that they wouldn't be able to do it tonight, but didn't really say why. I was hoping to hear it. I told my buddy about it, and being a country guy he was looking forward to it, but in the end we just had fun.

Apparently it was the last night they played with Hi-Fi, so they were sending TGF shots all throughout the set. Towards the end Kevin was completely wasted. He tried grabbing the ceiling and doing "monkey bars" out towards the stage lights - grabbed a wire on accident, and fell from the ceiling into the crowd. He walked around and gave some hugs to people before going back up on stage. After the show when I talked to him he was pointing to the lights he was going for and telling me he thought he had it.

For two of the later songs he was leaning over into the crowd with his mic, having fun, and letting a chic and some guy sing the songs with him. Let's just say they weren't as skilled. They ended with Honest Man and Sing, which I like a lot, so fortunately he decided to sing those songs solo!

I got to meet all of the guys after the show, talk to them a little bit, and get some pictures. They were all very cool. When I met Kevin I told him I was Hoodstock and he replied "1994?" (I think he thought I said Woodstock) so I said "no, Hoodstock from FansofLive.com" and he said "I have no idea what's going on, I've had to much Tequila", so I gave up and just got some pictures. Ah - to be a rockstar!

I did ask about the B-Sides and they are on the way soon.

The non-biased impression of my neigbor:

I'd have to say this was not my friends type of music, but he always has a good time. His impression was that Kevin was clearly better than the lead singer from the opening band (he said during the second song "I can't hear what he's saying but you can definately tell he's way better). He also was truely impressed with Hennesee and Gracey.

He told me the lead guitar player (Shaun) blew away the other two guys on stage (Pat and Chad) and that he thought Gracey was amazingly talented. About half way through the show he wanted to move up closer to see Gracey play.

He didn't know the guys, so he didn't really care if he met them, but when they came out he made sure to shake Shaun's and CG's and to tell him how impressed he was of their talent. He really thought the two of them were completely amazing.

Overall it was a great night out. They said they were coming back again next year and my neighbor said he'd definately go with me. Can't wait.

Now we know infact that he is Matt Damon instead!

Great review though Hoody, shame you didn't get to see the back porch set though, that would have been amazing!

I'll have to download the Cinci set to get my fill I guess - but I did get to see Kevin acting like a monkey on the ceiling - so it all evens out.

I was a little bummed he was to plastered to recognize the name - but it was fun chatting with Kevin and all the guys! I'll say Sean is a really cool guy!
