I'm sure we all hold a few opinions that go against the popular grind. Here are a few of mine.

1. The Dark Knight was very overrated, and Heath Ledger's joker was over-hyped and somewhat annoying.
2. Avatar was not as spectacular as people like to think - it was in fact quite bland and forgettable.
3. Tomato Ketchup is a crap condiment that ruins meals.
4. The Beatles music isn't all that interesting. Fuck 'em.
5. Two and a Half Men isn't THAT good at all.

You got any?

Interesting topic!

As far as yours go:

1. Disagreed, movie wasn't perfect but Ledger's Joker was everything I wanted from the character.
2. Agreed, pocahontas on another planet was all it was really. Story left a lot to be desired, as did the acting, all the fancy CGI and 3D in the world can't make up for the lack of those more important features.
3. Leave the forums. Now.
4. I'm not a massive fan, I don't dislike them, but don't see the absolute genius, if they hadn't done it someone else would have.
5. A hundred times yes, fuck everyone involved with that show. Especially the kid.

My Own .. hmm

1. Most fat people are fat because of their own fault and I have little sympathy for anyone who complains about being fat but doesn't do enough to change their lifestyle.

2. AC/DC is the worst band in the history of modern music.

3. Peanut butter is vile, as is basically any other sort of nut in any capacity.

4. Vegetarians are morons for their views.

5. Jeff Kennet wasn't actually that bad of a premier of victoria, faults yes for sure, but he wasn't a baby raping monster some people seem to think.

6. Live were a good band for a long period of time.

2. Dark Knight and Inception were both very overrated.
3. Nirvana sucks.

5. The Mars Volta and Ben Folds are the best music acts of the last 10 years.

1. Skinny chicks aren't attractive (for the most part)
2. In America, we need to raise taxes for the rich and eliminate subsidies to agriculture and oil.
3. An ever expanding economy is stupid and doesn't exist. The "recession" is not bad.
4. Liver tastes good.
5. I believe democracy is stupid because the average person has the IQ of a drum of expired mayonnaise.
6. People are not biologically (naturally) competitive/evil.

1.) America's problems are the fault of all voting age Americans, no exceptions.
2.) Science and math teachers deserve to be paid more then other teachers as warrants the demand for their particular skill set.
3.) Barack Obama will win reelection in 2012.
4.) The Republican party is no longer a force for fiscal sanity. It has been hijacked by the social conservatives and needs to be purged.
5.) Doctors are people too and their opinions on non medicinal matters should be treated on equal footing with any other opinion (excluding the purely idiotic).
6.) You can fix stupid, it just takes a lot of effort.
7.) Every country has roughly the same percentage of stupid people.

So, because I do work that less than 1% of the population can do, and also work harder than 99% of the population, I should be punished?

I don't agree with the notion presented by the opinion you quoted but I'll provide the counter argument as I understand it.

Taxes are not a punishment, your increased payment to the government is for the better of the country and a small price to pay for the fortune of working in a country where someone of your skills can be richly compensated.

Alright that was only half-serious. The real reason is our country is in a financial shit hole and your salary can bear the burdens of an increased tax load to dig us out of it, unlike the lower class who can't afford to lose two hours off their work week much less an extra grand off their yearly intake. Plus, people who make your salary or greater number in the tiniest of minorities and are victim to the whims of the greater populace who makes much less then you. However, a dirty truth no politician wants to acknowledge is that a tax increase on the wealthy alone will not cover the debts our country has incurred and that's even before we get to paying for the entitlements. As such any tax increase on the wealthy will have to also include much, if not all, of the middle class as well in order to make the dent we need to see progress.

Short answer: you're not being punished. The greater part of the country will have to share in your increased taxes.

The idea is completely flawed. The more money I earn, the higher percentage I am taxed. If I earn $240K instead of $300K, I will actually end up netting more money for 80% of the work. I am a medical doctor and there are lots of sick people. Should I work 4 days instead of 5 days a week and make more money doing it? Sure. But then the poor fucks camping out in the hospital with their SS card and food stamps will just complain that it's taking too long to see the doctor. You can't win. The poor always want to be the rich and the government should have no role in leveling things out.

That's an over-exaggeration, or perhaps a look back to the Eisenhower presidency, I'm not sure which. The tax rates, if done correctly (stop laughing) would have a more gentle scaling so the difference between earning 270k and 300k isn't a net loss as that would stifle economic growth. In fact, things are close to that now. At 350k you're looking at a 33% federal tax rate, 115,500 nabbed by uncle sam. At 400k you're in the 35% bracket, costing you 140,000. The 50k difference in salary more then covers the 2% increase in taxes. The only time your fear would actually occur would be if you're running up against the edge of a bracket and in one particular year have an increase in salary that was sufficient enough to put you into the next bracket but was still as a percentage less then the 2% increase in taxes. That's a very, very small window.

I'd recommend easing off the vitriol towards the poor, though, as they do pay your salary, albeit through premiums to an insurance company. It was not by intelligence and attitude alone you ended up where you are, you were lucky and could have just as easily ended up having to depend on food stamps. As a doctor you should have the intelligence to understand that the class warfare types are not representative of an entire class of citizens.

The poor don't pay my salary. A non-profit hospital does and they rely on federal and state funding to keep afloat because the poor are draining them. So, in the end, the people paying the majority of my salary are actually the wealthy taxpayers, my attending physicians as a lowly resident.

As for my disdain for certain people. If you saw the types of people ERs attract, the demands they make and what they have to offer in the form of payment, and then had to listen to our president harp about how they don't get the care they need, you'd be pretty jaded, too. Everyone who needs health care gets it, and everyone who comes to the hospital by ambulance because they want free transportation across town and a free meal gets it too.

So your hospital only receives funding from the feds? No one with insurance of any type ever comes to your hospital? Not entirely unlikely but very doubtful. Your salary may not be completely paid by the patients coming into your hospital, neither is mine, but a portion most certainly is.

I work in a hospital, I know the types the ER attracts, hence why I support a basic level of coverage for everyone because when someone comes to the ER and doesn't pay (as often happens, ERs are used as doctor's offices for those without insurance) that cost is passed on to customers who can pay. Granted, the costs are still being passed on as the taxpayers have to provide the financial backing to insure the poor but it's spread over a greater portion of the population (not everyone goes to the hospital once a year) lowering the costs for each individual.

Also, while you are correct in saying that everyone who comes to an ER gets treated (barring a few exceptions) what the president was referring to was not the care at the ER but rather care outside of an ER (at least I hope, if he was saying people don't get the care they need in an ER he's an idiot). If everyone had the ability to see a family doctor on a regular basis it'd reduce the jam of people coming in with tooth aches, headaches, and other such nonsense. In addition, it'd provide a better chance of catching dangerous diseases/conditions early allowing them to be treated earlier which both increases the likelihood for survival and reduces the costs associated with treatment.

A few more unpopular opinions that aren't political:

1.) Booze is overrated.
2.) The NFC East is terrible and doesn't deserve to be the game of the week, sunday night and monday night game every single freaking week.
3.) LeBron James may have handled himself in a completely stupid manner with the decision but he had every right as a free agent to go to whatever team he wanted.
4.) Basketball > soccer.
5.) People who only come to the reception of a wedding when invited to the service as well are jackholes.
6.) Nascar sucks
7.) Family Guy is overrated.
