I sniffed that shit out knowing damn well............you wont know about this as this thread was deleted here by him a few months back.

Well, I appreciate the low down on this OTD. I hate to speculate on past transgressions I know nothing about. I think I've got the gist now. As stated, I will put my energies into promoting and following a new path-the TGF path. I'll sit back and watch from afar any pummeling you and the gang wish to inflict on Nick (granted with a little smile on my face). As far as Ed is concerned, I wish no malice on him, although I suspect Karma may come back to pay him a visit in the future. Thanks again.

Hey TGF fans! New member/ 1st post. I was a long time Candlebox crew member and friend of Kevin's so I guess that puts me in the "inner-circle". I need to get Kev's back here for a minute but will be doing it from my perspective rather than attempting to put words in his mouth.

I have had fun lurking around here and watching the sparks fly since Kevin told me the news of the collaboration between the two bands. Clearly Live has spawned a passionate group of super-fans and that is fantastic. I was the Admin of one of Candlebox's first fan sites and moderated similar impassioned debates, some healthy while others went south on any given topic. It is the nature of the beast but it can also be managed if cooler heads prevail.

Kevin has echoed many of my thoughts here and my perspective is that he was speaking more generally about the level of disrespect between some members rather than specifically about what went down in this thread vis a vis sarcasm, etc...

It's no surprise that there are a small few individuals who would rather drop a stinky turd in the punchbowl and stir it vigorously rather than post respectful, constructive criticisms or perspectives on a topic. This in turn, gets others fired up and the battle begins. The passion here is evident but the repeated "turds" make for a sometimes toxic environment and regardless of intention, things end up becoming personal when the insults fly. Further, it is safe to assume that the band members are also lurking and can't help but feel the sting when speculation and criticism around their art is waged in such an inflammatory manner and often times, directly at them.

Most artists don't create their material for the fans specifically but they certainly feed off of the response - they are people with feelings, not just a product or brand. The inspiration to make music is deep and comes from personal experiences and so when things become trivial and hurtful, it leaves an impression.

One thing I will say about Kevin is that he adores people and tends to his fans more closely than any musician I have ever seen, and I toured for a lot of years experiencing many different bands and how they "really" are. He is tireless in his attention to his fans and takes time to personally invest himself in their experiences. Kevin is far from egotistical, arrogant or narcissistic. This is one committed showman who is so passionate about the music he is involved in. Any band would be lucky to have him in the mix.

Lastly, from everything I have seen and heard, TGF is keenly focused on making inspired rock & roll and putting on solid live performances, not battling Ed, sending him "F-Yous" via their music, or selling 5 million records. Yes, they would love to be successful as any band would, but they put their art and themselves out there, and the rest is ultimately up to the fans to determine.

- off my soapbox -

BTW: I think the record is freakin' awesome! So many moods and flavors to digest. It may not be for everyone but for those who like a core rock record with a classic bent, SAH-WEE-EET!

I was able to meet the Live guys back in '93 at the same time Kevin did, and was reintroduced to C,C,& P during a visit to the studio in Dec and could immediately feel the chemistry between the 5 guys. All top notch people and players. I wish TGF all the success in the world because they are in it for all of the right reasons!

Thanks for listening to my yackin' - Kent

Nitro, thanks so much for your post. Your old Candlebox website was golden! I used to post on it but I have no clue what my username was, and I probably posted like the bratty teenager that I was anyway so I'm glad I'll be avoiding that potential embarrassment. Thanks for weighing in over here!

Where do Candlebox fans hang out on the internet these days? All the sites I knew of are gone, including the music archive which is a damn shame.

QUOTE(IndyYakr @ Sep 22 2010, 2:56 pm) *

I believe the day Nick realized he could get under people's skin was the day his destiny on this board was set. In his mind he became a legend-the center of attention. There's a simple solution to this and that is to quit enabling and ignore him. It's my opinion, though that many on this board appreciate a good joust with the Legend himself, so my guess is the current trend will continue. If that's the case there will be sad mishaps with those we admire like the one illustrated in this thread-what a waste of mental energy.

Very wise. I try to not respond directly to him anymore as it is completely futile and counterproductive honestly. He's a gym teacher and a little twat with no power in his real life so he comes here for his sense of empowerment. He keeps coming back because we enable that by responding. Indy is too right about all of this. Please, everyone, stop responding to this little turd. If it were real life and he kept trying to annoy you, you wouldn't pay any attention to this clown.

Thanks Funky for the "Ignore" suggestion. I didn't know it was there. Now is there a way to ignore posts that reply to the said ignored person?

It's just like in the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie. If you pretend Freddy isn't there he doesn't have the power to hurt you.

The 6 year hiatus took a huge hit on their devoted online fan-base. When Into the Sun was ramping up and the news spread that the band had reunited there was a lot of action on the newly launched candleboxrocks site and forum but for whatever reason, it did't take for the long term. The fans still turn out for the shows and support as always but the online contingency has been lacking.

Good to reconnect mystery friend! ; ) Man, that site was a LONG time ago! Shit, I actually coded that from the ground up in HTML - now that's old-skool.

Thanks for the kind welcomes!

QUOTE(iamurme @ Sep 22 2010, 1:12 am) *

WOW,

I haven't been here in ages and honestly I really shouldn't be here now but seriously this is like fucking high school. I never thought in a million years that there would be so much mud slinging about a group of friends that decided that they wanted to make a record and hoped that everyone that loved, supported and had been affected by what they had done as MUSICIANS, in their respected bands, would SUPPORT their new efforts as said MUSICIAN/SONG WRITERS.

This band, The Gracious Few, love making music, are great friends and above all wanted to give you, as well as themselves, something new to attach yourselves to but alas that seems to have been missed as though 1 bad apple gave everyone the right to talk all sorts of shit without any regard to the feelings of the men that made the music that you all at ONE POINT LOVED MORE THAN LIFE IT'S SELF!

Live started in 85' Hoodstock and if you were a real Live fan you would know that. I have known these boys, ED included, since 1993, have had the pleasure of playing several shows with them since then and am quite sure I know them better than any one on this message board and remember this simple fact. Without the music that Live, Ed's solo record and Candlebox, YOU simply do not exist!

I forgive you for the negative, appreciate all of you for the positive and sincerely hope that each and everyone of you finds it in your hearts to quit judging CCPS & myself for what it is that we love doing. We are not judging you, not telling you that you suck and only wish all of you the best. I'm sure that CC&P are glad to call you fans but if this is the way you're gonna treat them I think they are sorely mistaken.

I'm done with this message board but please don't keep yourselves from experiencing great music because you're jaded. Whether it's Eddy K, Live or The Gracious Few there is great music to be absorbed and enjoyed and by the way we never gave a FUCK if you liked what we did because frankly we were doing it for OURSELVES!

If this post makes has in any way upset or made you angry that was not my intention but if that is the case you may want to talk to someone about that, it's quite possible that you have issues far beyond the music!

Sincerely,
Kevin Martin
Singer
The Gracious Few

First off, I really don't believe Kevin would actually waste his time here but I'll play along:

I watched the interview and posted things I heard on a message board. Sorry I quoted you correctly and disagreed with a technicality.

If you want to call me out you are technically wrong about Live being an 80's band. They may have known each other in the 80's and played small gigs, but they did not play under the name Live and they did not release their first album as Live until 1991. All of their music and all of their hits occured in the 90's. How that makes them an 80's band I have no idea. Did they play together and know each other in 1985 - absolutely.

Secondly - You really owe an apology for the misguided statement you have made about me. The fact that you are referring to me as the "1 bad apple" tells me you do not read this board at all. In fact, if you did you would know that I have been one of "The (very) Few" posters supportive of both Live projects an I am one of the least derogitory people here. I am one of "The Few" people on this board who have posted positive things about Ed since the split of Live and I also have expressed excitement and positve remarks about the rest of the band that you play with. They have been hero's of mine for many years and continue to be so. Thank you for overreacting to one "era" statement when you have no idea of the culture of this board or what has actually been said here. If you were to actually take the time to read everything you would find that the people here who you consider "good apples" are much more hateful, insulting, and derogitory towards your friends than I. You should not comment on the interworkings of cultures you actually know nothing about.

Third - the fact that you are calling out my Live fanhood is insulting, degrading, and total bullshit. In return for that comment I would emphatically say that you sir are an asshole! You do not know me or anything about me. You have no idea how this band has impacted my life and how much dedication, time, and money (which I feel is least important) I have given it. You would never be able to comprehend how big of a True Live Fan I acutally am.

Fourth - to state that the music of Live we all at "ONE POINT LOVED MORE THAN LIFE IT'S SELF!" is one of the most idiotic statements that I have ever seen. Music is simply a part of life. It is not bigger than life. I have never loved music, or any other form of art or entertainment, more than life. The only thing that I will ever love more than life itself is my wife and children.

Finally you stated:
QUOTE(iamurme @ Sep 22 2010, 1:12 am) *
Without the music that Live, Ed's solo record and Candlebox, YOU simply do not exist!

I would assume you were referring to the message board but this was written in the context of addressing me so based on your statement structure I will not assume. If all the members of these bands had never been born I would still be here. However, if the fans who have supported you throughout the years had not you would not enjoy the lifestyle and comforts that you are privilaged to have today. You infact would be an "Honest Man" like those of us posting here!

I enjoy the music of Live, Ed, and TGF. For your misunderstanding and slandering of me, however, I cannot consider myself a fan of you.

Apparently we have one thing in common about each other - we don't give a fuck!

The name wasn't Live but they started as C&C&P doing the talent show.

QUOTE
It wasn't until 1985, when the boys were in the 8th grade, that Patrick, Taylor, and Gracey would get together for a talent show, and win the first prize of $20. Ed would soon after join the boys to form Public Affection, and the band flourished in high school.

the fact that Kevin used 'Live' by name, you take that to mean their current band name, most bands start with other many other names. One thing about human nature, we all interpret things we hear differently. Semantics is always in question. he was referring to when they started....it's plain as day. Come on man don't go apeshit, you called him on it first, but got the semantics wrong. I respect your opinions here but, come on man!!!
