What's wrong with him saying "momma" and "oh child"? Hell, sometimes he says "Oh Lawd". Why "ick"? Hello sarcasm.gif he has always said things like that. It's not anything new. Personally, I find it sexy when he says "momma". And you know what, I appreciate the fact that even though he's singing rock he's still putting a little black flavor in the song. You see, when he does that he's trying to put some soul into the song.
But i guess you are one of those exclamation.gif who would prefer if those two genres, soul and rock are segregated. Oh well stickouttongue.gif

Pardon me? Listen, I actually really like the new album, and if I thought Ed throwing in "momma" and what not sounded like it belonged I would be cool with it, and as it is, I am pretty cool with it, but sometimes it just doesn't seem to fit. Thats all. I have no problem with blending musical genres. I love the gospel feel to some of these songs. So please, do not call me "one of those people"

I think SFBM blows Mental Jewelery away. As I said numerous times before, MJ loses me after Mirror Song. 10,000 Years starts out as a good song, but it never seems to end. Live were finding its legs with MJ, and in my opinion their were as many misses as hits.

SFBM I can listen to and enjoy every song. Which is extremely rare when it comes to CD's.

Nick, boy oh boy oh boy. SFBM is nowhere near MJ, period. The lyrics alone off MJ BLOW SFBM off the fucking map dude. I'm not even going to argue with you. I think your taste in music sucks badly to be honest with you, no offense.

You seem like a little kid when he gets a new toy. It could be a piece of dried up dogshit toy that smells when you squeeze it. But to that kid, it's the greatest toy in the world for a month or so. Then the kid finally realizes that the fucking thing really makes him wanna puke because of how bad it stinks.

SFBM isn't that bad but the lyrics are close. They're pretty bland with no real theme or message to any of em. MJ is the deepest album lyrically LIVE has done and that's fact.

So don't even argue it. SFBM is better then bop and V in my opinion but it's not in the same league as MJ, TC or TDTH. Not even close.

I'm afraid to say that V is a far far beter album than SFBM. I think SFBM is average at best (except Night of Nights). Dont understand why V gets slatted to be honest.

I have to confess that I don't think MJ is that great. I find it dog rough and naive sounding. It's the sound of a young band trying to emulate REM and ending up sounding too much like them, but showing the potential that bore fruit on the next album. Not saying that there aren't some good songs on there because there are, but I find it excruciating to listen to from start to finish. The weird thing is I know I'd have loved this album if I'd heard it before TC, but the genie was already out of the bottle by then.

I do find SFBM easier to listen to, but I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. There are some cringeworthy moments and I do tend to stick it on while I'm doing the housework and my mind is not fully concentrating on the music. I do like it, but I doubt it's going to have legs for me.

Again, I have to have a good laugh at that. I've listened to Mj a million times and can't see any resemblence to anything REM has ever made. I can't see how they're trying to emulate REM whatsoever. The drumming is so far different it's not even comparable and the structure of the music is nowhere near the same. I'd like to see you name your reasons for saying this. Because I hear the songs on an individual basis and can't see ANY similarities other then the theme of some of the lyrics.

And what's wrong with that? I wonder why people even bring that up. Music has been like that for a long time. The greatest band ever like The Beatles, Led Zeppelinn, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd..etc, all wrote lyrics that were similar in theme to other bands material. That only means that no matter what you write about, you are inevitably going to be writing something similar in theme to what somebody else has already sung about.

So I find the REM and U2 comparison really fucking dumb, sorry. I mean, musically, REM, LIVE and U2 all have vastly different styles and sounds and that pretty much fact. The vocal styles, the music......everything but the similar lyrical theme.

As for V being better then SFBM? Well, my opinion is that all of Celine Dion's disks are better then V. That cd is a fucking frisbee for me and about the worst music I've ever heard. Mcpheezy already went there about how utterly horrible it is lyrically so I won't even go there. And with the keyboards, horrible rap and RAILO, I won't even argue the point of how sickening that cd actually is.

If I had to pick which Live album is REM-ish, with no 'none of the above' option. I'd choose... not to choose.

Sonically SFBM is much better than MJ. My problem with MJ is that it is very acoustic and Ed's voice is annoying. This album would be great if it was recorded nowadays with loud guitars but as it stands, many songs are not even listenable.

Just goes to show how people differ in opinions.

I can't imagine SFBM being 'sonically' better than MJ. And if there's anything I don't like about Ed's present vocal style (as diverse as it seems), it's the part where he tries to sound soft.

I agree. I think what makes Mental Jewelry so great, other than the lyrics, is the rawness of it. The edge that Ed's voice has and how pure the music is. I think that cd would be a disaster if it was recorded today. It's simplicity is what makes it perfect. Oh, IN MY OPINION.

That's the only department MJ beats SFBM in.

Otherwise, MJ blows really hard.
