Chad, Patrick and I control the name and trademark of LIVE. We will use all resources of said name and trademark as we see fit.

If they control the name, how come Ed puts on just about everything that he is the former lead singer of Live?

It will be free - otherwise Ed will be taking them to court.

I think he can say he is the former singer, just not Ed K of Live.

Hey, I just love the idea of "new" Live in any form, and new "old" Live, so I don't care who is putting it out there or how... I just say "THANKS!" to them for doing it! smile.gif

QUOTE(dangum @ Sep 14 2010, 10:32 pm) *

Here are some possible reasons:
1. Waiting for an opportunity to make money from them
2. Unhappy with the quality of the material
3. Don't want to dwell on the past
4. Contractual obligations (the record label owns the material and the band are unable to release it)
5. Waiting for a special occasion (20th anniversary)
6. There's not enough demand
7. Too costly to produce

I wonder which of those 7 points was the reason for not releasing Hold me Up sarcasm.gif

I still can't believe Hold Me Up was not on the Zack and Miri Soundtrack. The song was in the major scene of the movie. I'm assuming that was due to the record company but who knows.

yeah, I think it's the reason you mentioned, but still not sure about that, as they had the oppurtunity to release it several times (especially with Awake - which was still under Radioactive), but maybe it were different reasons.

The respons to that song by (often people that didnt know Live at all) was overwelming on the internet. If they released Hold me Up in the period the movie was released, Im sure they had at least one big hit just before the light went out.

Ed has mentioned fairly recently in an interview that he likes Hold me Up as being unreleased. I forget his exact words, but he said he liked how the song has developed its own mystique, for lack of better term, as an unreleased gem.

Ed's reasoning there is just flawless.

Given the nature of the material I don't know if they could charge for it, depending on what label the songs were recorded with.

Since these were only artist demos and not part of a finished album, it's entirely possible they aren't covered under their old label agreement. It depends on the contract that was in force at the time.

It is entirely possible, unless the label paid for their recording space, mixing, etc.

I doubt they would sell it even if they could, they would have to drop a cut to Ed and given that contractual situation... its just a mess.

It is a common notion because musicians can be particular about how they want to release recordings, and they might be content when unofficially released material is considered to be special amongst fans.
