QUOTE(thefunkyredcaboose @ Sep 17 2010, 1:58 pm) *

Whoa, whoa, whoa, I already admitted I was wrong to phrase my initial post the way I did.

My point about chord structure was NOT that the chord structure is too simple. If that was it then why would I be posting on a Live board in the first place? They aren't exactly known for mind bending chord sets.

My point was that the song uses the chorus chord progression for that entire last section where the second solo happens and the melody changes. That is a big part of the structure we were discussing, and I highlighted that it is really just the chorus on repeat. This is what I said:

"Yeah there is a big dynamic change heading into the bridge section, but then the song rolls right back into the same chord progression from that point until the end. Different stuff happens over it but it is still the chorus of the song on repeat. I enjoy that part of the song a lot, but it isn't really what I would call complex."

My point wasn't that the chords aren't remarkable, but that I can't call the song structure great because at the heart of it all it is just verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus. That ain't exactly rocket science right there. It is the chorus because the chord structure, the drums, bass, and rhythm guitar don't change.

I also don't think you are capable of "telling it like it is" without sounding like a complete asshole. You've been on the attack ever since my initial comment and I don't really feel like dealing with it any longer. I've been willing to try and explain my initial point, but enough is enough from my end.

Good for you son. I don't really care if you respond to these points any longer really.

Nor do I care if I sound like an asshole when "telling it like it is"...especially to somebody throwing around sarcasms and self justifications like they are candy. I thought your view was narrow minded and I told you so, get the fuck over it already please? Why DO YOU have such a big problem with being told any of your particular views are narrown minded? Especially when in this instance they were?

I don't sugar coat things to people buddy. I'd respond the same way right to your face and if you can't take it like a man, that's not my problem neither. I get harsh criticisms from my boss sometimes and I take them like a man. He sounds like a complete asshole, but most times, that's the only way to get your point across. I accept those criticisms with respect and courtesy and don't give a second thought to whether or not he came across as harsh. Little girls respond that way and if you ask me, you're kinda starting to sound like one. No offense buddy, honestly.

Over your last couple of posts, you've explained your points quite well and I respect every word of it. But your argument in the beginning was again, simplistic and narrow minded. Need I tell you again sir?

QUOTE(Infrequent Poster @ Sep 17 2010, 3:30 pm) *

Quotation snipe of the day.

The vast, vast majority of the people I interact with on a daily basis call it like they see it. I'm not bullshitting either. You're mashing "calling it like I see it" with "abrasive." There's a difference. Not that I particularly disagree with any other points you've made though.

I hear you 100% bud and appreciate your input. But often times, I am quite abrasive when I'm making a point to someone. So the difference is really part of the equation if you know what I mean?

I get even worse when I need to repeat myself to someone who is bent on justification. I tell my kids all the time to stop making excuses and accept responsibility for their own shortcomings. To admit when they are wrong and be proud of being able to do just that.

I respect the opinions being offered over the past few post here. But they weren't the same ones at all offered earlier on. All i expect from any grown man is a simple, sorry, should have explained myself further and that would have been it.

That is what I have been trying to say in my posts, but I feel like you refuse to hear it. I should have explained myself further initially, and I have no problem admitting that.

Along the way I've been discussing the music because I enjoy discussing music. It has been a long time since you've done that on this thread. I'd like to get us back on track with that, if that's alright with you.

Since you designate 8 to 12 parts of a song being important to the structure of a song, what in those 8 to 12 things is really impressive to you about Sing?

Glad we got past that. I'll post more tomorrow as I'm pretty damn tired from work.

But I will say one thing. I don't think that the structure of any song on this album is particularly impressive. I just like the way sing was executed and think that structurally, it's better than any song on this album.

Agreed, I think the structural touches on this album are mostly subtle except on Honest Man and Trecedim. I wish they had gone further on Trecedim personally, it could have been a knock out as a progressive rocker.

Welp, I've listened through the album again and, although I still didn't quite get to distinguishing each song individually and really digesting the album, I do know it's a good piece of work. But sadly, I still feel really cramped and capped by the Honest Man solo. Just feels so limited. Against Kevin Martin's whipping vocals, I really wanted a solo to fling itself all over the place but this one, for me, doesn't. It does creep into and then leave the song in a fine manner, no question about that - but I'm not a fan of it, personally. Just doesn't really work for me at all.

What solos by CT do you like? He doesn't usually bring the big sweeping solo that you are looking for, but I thought this was his best solo work since Graze.

That's a good question. I know he's not the best for solos anyway, but I thought here - in a new setting, new band, new sound - he might've pushed the boat a bit. Umm... solos by CT that I like. Strangely, I can't think of them right now. I need to go listen to Live's entire catalog again and get back to you.

Oh, but definitely Hold Me Up. Although that's basically as repetitive as Honest Man's. Just feels more open because of the pace and bends and the finish and whatnot.

Hmmmmmm.......

Remember that mathcore band he used to produce? I donotremember the name, but he deivered a tremendous solo in their tune called som conquistador. Threat Conquistador? I bet Dangum will remember that.

BTW Dan, why did not you post the news on TGF release on the Site?
