I'm curious too, as to who the 65 were that said "it sucks".

We know who the 1 is, the other 5???

Does Nick have 5 other accounts?

Actually no, you didn't say it can be interpreted many ways. What you said was

If you want to sit, listen to great album and pretend that it's about Ed it's your prerogative, to me that just seems like an insult to the band to suggest that's what these songs are about.

GO back and dig a little deeper.

Relative to the discussion of it being "about Ed" you in fact said that it was "undeniable" You mentioned nothing of it being interpretative.

It being undeniable and interpretative are, in this context, mutually exclusive or at the very least intellectually incompatible. So which is it? Are the mentioned songs about Ed or are they interpretative?

I don't doubt that at some point you may have said TGF's music was interpretative, nor do I really desire to "dig deeper". I shouldn't have to. You said what you said, you have 2 options

1) Fess up and admit that you said something contradicting
2) Pick one of the two sides you presented

If, as a fan of the music, you're going to say contradicting things why should anyone take what you have to say seriously?

QUOTE(thefunkyredcaboose @ Sep 12 2010, 7:56 pm) *

I'm really interested in why certain people aren't digging Kevin's vocals. I think it would be more interesting to know "why" instead of "they are poor."

I think if you dig a classic raw vocal style (Plant, Mercury, Roger Daltrey, Steve Perry) its a no brainer. The dude has range and to spare, but if you don't like a high male vocal than I get it.

Just curious because usually the comments are just "I don't like it" with little explanation beyond that. Are people just expecting Eddie K's vocals or what?

Makes me laugh out loud really. People saying his vocals are poor, then saying if anybody thinks this album is a classic is just fooling themselves.......what an utter and absolute joke.

I think Kevin vocals are masterful on this album. To me, a cross between, Robert Plant and Rod Stewart, with maybe a little Brian Johnson thrown in. People might not like it, but doesn't make it poor. Some people didn't like Plants voice and thought he sucked, but FACT remains is that he is probably the best studio rock vocalist of all time.

His vocals suit this music, end of story. I don't think there is ANY singer in rock and roll today who could've done better, or even as well. BUT, I listened to him sing Lakini's a couple of times and I wanted to choke him to shut him up....made my fucking ears bleed. But then you have tracks like Honest Man and Appetite where his vocals are fucking epic. Anybody who wants to complain, just sit there for a moment while listening to those songs and try and belt those lyrics the way he sings em. Bet you sound like a fucking clown audition on American Idol.

His range on this album is utterly fantastic. Listen to the change from Appetite, where he sounds a bit like Plant and Stewart, than change to Tredecim, where he sounds almost exactly like the lead guy from the band Placebo. His range is fucking stellar and again, suits this music perfectly.

After listening to the album over a period of months, I can say that I don't quite think this album is a classic, but it is a great rock album. If this were released 20 years ago, when music was still selling, I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell 10 million plus. It rivals just about any album put out by popular and decent rock bands such as Pearl Jam, The Samshing Pumpkins, The RHCP, Soundgarden, Live, Nirvana, AIC and many many more.

This album has three potential singles that can easily be monster hits, which is a benchmark for most great albums. Another 2 or 3 that are close behind and the rest still decent. I'd like anybody who disagrees to start comparing and breaking down great albums of the past and giving valid reasons why this doesn't measure up. It may not be up there with the likes of Metallica, zeppelin, or Black Sabbaths best, but it does rival many others.

Quite simply put, one of the top 10 rock albums to hit eardrums in the past 20 years.

IPB Image Yeah, Closer kind of goes there but to me it seems like it can be applied to a lot of things.

I voted it sucks because there's no middle of the road option & with Kevin's voice I can't say it's great.

Still waiting for my legit copy in the mail but have listened 5 times now. I bought Candlebox's debut back in the day & still like it. His voice now, however, I often find grating. The music on the album is top notch but Kevin's voice kills me. It doesn't actually suck but there's no middle choice & I don't think I'll listen to this spontaneously very often. It's interesting though because there are a few songs where I like his voice...the majority though, not so much.
Appetite is awesome. Honest Man I liked live better than on the cd, but it's good. Can't take Kevin's voice on Guilty Fever (but with another singer I could dig it) so I skip it. The Few is great & I'm really enjoying The Rest of You. I genuinely dislike Crying Time...probably I've just never enjoyed the Power Ballad. I can imagine how catharic it must've been to write, but I don't like listening to it. I enjoy the tempo of Silly Thing. Closer is a great rock song. I can't bring myself to enjoy What's Wrong...its too slow I get bored. Maybe if I was stoned smile.gif Tradecim is awesome & would be even better with a different lead singer. Nothing But Love is a decent song if I didn't have to listen to Kevin kinda wail. & I hate when songs fade out on a cd. The reggae feel of Sing is nice & Kevin keeps his voice in check & this feels like it belongs on a different album altogether...like early 311. All I Hear is awesome in spite of Kevin's voice sometimes. Musicaly & lyrically I really like most of the record... Every time I've met Chad Chad & Pat they've been awesome (so has Ed- for the record) & I had fun seeing them perform at Fat Daddys & will see them again when I can but I wish they'd picked a different voice to sing with them. BTW, I don't tink KM sucks, I just don't like his voice on several songs on the record...lest I be attacked for claiming my opinion is fact.

Surprised No, although I'd think it'd be a sad existence.

As for the pic of me and Ed, well, I decided that after Alive dropped AND (most importantly) after CTs blog post where he let a lot of things aired that I wanted to distance myself a bit from being a fan of Ed.

I instead put a picture of me and CT up from the same meet-n-greet. Don't know why it isn't showing.

I got the album! lol.gif found it in a store in Memphis. I'm currently on my first listen thru whilst doing a load of laundry in a hostel. Blowing me away! The Few is such a fantastic rocker. Closer kicked my ass all over this place and I really love the rest of you.. Great hearing the final version of appetite too! 2 days until I get my turn in the front of the tour bus as "bus DJ". I'm gonna be blasting this all the way between new Orleans and Lake Charles!
