what do you think about this song?
for me is some kind of scream for the end of the "war" in Iraq. but should they so loudly show us their in some way political ideas?
maybe for me it inst so obvious because I live in a country which has send there not so many people...and here we hardly ever even hear about this problem.

It's certainly political, but far less so than "What Are We Fighting For?" which was pretty obvious and overtly political just before the Iraq war. As was Ed performing at Peace On The Beach to protest the Iraq war. And certainly no more so than Ed screaming, "f*ck Fox news and f*ck Bill O'Reilly" at a concert two years ago. Home is a far broader song, and has a nice message. If you want to talk about an overly-poltical song, "Let's Impeach the President" by Willie Nelson, now that is one for the ages.

For me it sounds too much like "What Are We Fighting For?" and Ed's voice sounds too feminine.

I always thought he really lisped the word "traces" but apparently it's "tracers."

the "shed some grace" line just cracks me up, so fucking stupid. And the whole "fighting for you, fighting for me" .. like, thanks Ed, nice to know who is fighting for me and who isn't. If any other things happen in my life, be sure to let me know first won't you?

To me it's one of the stronger songs on an album that's pretty weak.

I think we all agree the song is pretty weak on a fairly weak album.

Does Ed really know what it's like to fight in a war? Give me a break.

We're not fighting in Vietnam here, Ed. Get over your anti-war crap.

I completely agree with you (in fact, I have been saying this all along). WAWFF and Home really have no place on Live's albums. It bothers me that "rock" bands put ONE political outcry song on a cd full of songs with completely different messages. If you want to sing about politics, write the whole cd about it. If you really care about the war, get out there and say something (or actually fight dammit). As far as I'm concerned, Ed doesn't know anything about war and he should shut the fuck up. If you want to know about war, ask me. I'll tell you about war. Or better yet, ask someone who has fought in one. This is probably one of my least favorite songs on the cd. Honestly I'm glad someone from outside the United States realizes this because I've noticed that many non-Americans say this is their favorite song (and, for those of you that like this song - no, I am not saying your OPINION is wrong).

Ok sorry about that smile.gif

I'm staunchly anti-war so Home and WAWFF aren't weak to me.

I couldnt give two shits about the songs purpose, personally i think the song wouldve been stronger if ed sang about the soldiers in a negative light. The ones that set unarmed men alight and let them burn. The ones that gun down 10 soldiers in battle then cheer and hoot like they just won a football game. Or what about the renegades who arent in the armed forces, who go to iraq as hired assasins and get paid hundres of thousands of dollars for the thrill of killing people. Thats the kind of song ed wouldve sung on TC.

I just like the bit where ed sings "kid'll see his DADDY'S FACE AGAIN...." after the bridge!

I totally agree. I predicted the chorus before I even heard it.

When war is political (which is often the case), you can argue that anything about it is political. SFBM is clearly about love, hope and freedom so in that sense I see where this song comes from. That said, the message is kind of stating the obvious, nobody likes to see one their own men suffer or die.
