Just The Few seems like it could be associated with the breakup if you read into it. Plus it sounds like the song title could allude to their band name, which in itself I could even see being an allusion to the breakup.

I think this is a stupid argument.

Closer "could" be interpreted that way, but it could be interpreted in other ways too.

If we want to have a thread for song interpretations/meanings that would be really neat, but not a stupid conjecture filled argument.

If you read into it, the whole album about can be about the NFL, licorice sticks and Megan Fox!!

that being said it seems kinda easy for some people to read into it as a song about Ed.

Let's just go ahead and declare that the whole album is about Ed/Breakup, that would make those who are destined to be a contestant on the Jerry Springer show happy. Let's see

Crying Time - "Did you ever want out of this" - Speaking to Ed, did he want out of the band??

uhoh.gif omg.gif nervous.gif sad.gif angry.gif no.gif

Steve,

At first I thought the singer was referring to suicide because he follows up with "did you ever think about it (suicide) from time to time?"

But the rest of the song definitely could be directed at Ed. I think the lines, "I could have been a better friend, a better friend to you. And all these memories, but you're still alone" is referring to Ed.

The other lines that makes it quite obvious are, "How could you ever let this life get the best of you?
And all these memories, but you're still alone."

No no no no no just fucking no.

The song is about the suicide of their friend from LA, the band has already confirmed it as well as several other song meanings that AREN'T about Ed.

Made me president? What kind of response is that? What are we, in the 5th grade?

Look, if they were inspired by their emotions, great.

If the songs ARE literally about Ed/breakup then that is pathetic and juvenile. I would hope that as professional artists they are above that. Otherwise, it's nothing different than the East Coast and West Coast Biggie versus 2pac bullshit.

I've never came out and said it's definate, but from what I've heard, the lyrics have that way about them. We can agree to disagree on this, and how do you like my emotion. Why don't you have a listen and form your own opinion.

Uh, nope. Isn't it telling that MANY who are hearing the album come to the conclusion that some songs have potshots at Ed?

Whether or not The Few or Closer are TOTALLY about Ed, these songs have multiple lines that could be a reference to Ed being a douchenozzle, and it's not exactly crazy to think that that is what the songs are about. The attitude of the songs further point to such things.

It would be a stretch to say any of the songs are about the NFL or licorice. Actually, it would be stupid as shit. It's not a stretch at all to claim that some songs reference the breakup.

For the record, I don't think either one is about Ed. The Few seems to be more about making some good rock music in the wake of bad music, while Closer seems to be a "bad relationship" song.

I said the songs can be interpreted many ways. To each his own.

The parody on the song lines is fucking stupid.

I was going to hold off on that analysis, but yes it is undeniable.

If you want to sit, listen to great album and pretend that it's about Ed it's your prerogative, to me that just seems like an insult to the band to suggest that's what these songs are about.
