What made you change your tune from a month ago?

I do believe the TGF record will outsell Ed 10-1. It has more of what a larger majority of listeners want (genre & era's). I think the casual listener will purchase TGF's music.

did I change my tune? I hate this charting nonsense, who cares about it.

TGF may outsell Ed, I may have to get a soundscan subscription to really know

I still think they will and because of the sheer fact a lot of people who like classic rock, will like this record.

TROY reminds me of something that could have been on Birds of Pray, maybe a slight step up. I kinda like it though.

I really love all of these tracks. They ARE original. That is fact, not opinion.

The songs actually sound like some thought went into them. They were creatively conceived. They are not just a band trying to sound like 70's rock, or 80's rock or 90's grunge. There are elements and influences of ALL of those in the songs, but the result is totally original.

That, my friends, is what the great bands have done. Over the last 60 years, whether it was the influence of the Beatles or Delta Blues, great music evolves from influences and comes up with something new and original. That's what this is.

The drums and bass and guitars and unique vocals really bring something new to the table. Music has gotten so bland, I think some people can't even recognize originality when they hear it.

The Rest of You reminds me a little bit of the sound of the 80's group, the Squeeze. Like maybe Pulling Muscles From a Shell. It has a little bit of the New Wave sound from the 80's. It is a more whimsicle track than the others. I am guessing that it will fit into the vibe and flow of the album nicely.

QUOTE(thatsme @ Sep 6 2010, 3:33 am) *

I find TROY weak too. The chorus might grow on me as it's still catchy.
You're right about the utility of a "lighter" song in the middle of a hard rocking heavy album, but we already have "What's Wrong" and "Crying Time" for that wink.gif

I actually really like "The Rest of You" a lot. As I listen to it, I can't help but wonder if the guitar work on this one was CT's idea coming or one of those songs they purely wrote together. Either way, I get a little pissed thinking about how good the music on this one could have been in a Live song (but that's just me being nostalgic). Enough of that, though, I already like all of the songs, some more than others. Its refreshing to finally hear some well-written, heartfelt ROCK music. Getting pumped for Sept. 14 and NYC concert in November!!

On an interesting note, I realized the other day that I have had no compelling feeling whatsoever to buy Ed's record. And I say this not because of the bitter taste left in my mouth regarding his probable financial shenanigans (and possibly his over-roasted, cheap coffee - don't worry I didn't buy it lol.gif) but because I genuinely feel that the music is really poor in quality. The thought of listening to the album seems like a chore to me.

TROY is really the only one that reminds me of Live and would fit on a more recent Live record, which is probably why I enjoy it less. I'm glad others like it though!

Until now (because this was all found on Amazon) I ripped the 5 songs present (on Amazon).
Format WAV and MP3.
Sounds good.
With Audicity it is extremely easy to do this job.
But the best thing is to wait for the album to buy.
I ordered mine and expect it next week.

Nick, you seem to be the only person who does not, at the very least, think that TGF is original-sounding. If you disagreed that gravity exists, that wouldn't make the law of gravity an opinion.

Seriously, I was using hyperbole for effect. I think that the TGF songs that we have heard clearly sound like very original work, so I made a tongue-in-cheek statement to make my point. I thought everybody would get that.

I did not expect to get pulled over by the Ed-lover police, or TGF-hater police, or whatever role it is that you think you play when you are compelled to clamp down on anything that anyone ever has good to say about TGF or bad to say about Ed. Although I must say that I do find it entertaining when you spot a message in a thread that has something good to say about TGF or something bad to say about Ed, and you "jump out of the cyber bushes", surprise the perpetrator, flash your Ed badge, claim jurisdiction over the situation, and try to bring a pro-Ed, anti-TGF bias to the discussion. You're like the Paul Blart: Mall Cop of the fansoflive.com community. That's one of the top two reasons why I keep coming here more than going over to thegraciousfans.com. The drama and silliness present here are much more entertaining to me. (The other reason is to get information as it breaks, like Facebook videos and streaming songs, etc.) It's like the Philadelphia Eagles. I like seeing them win. But I almost enjoy even more the crazy fans threatening to jump off bridges and screaming about Andy Reid and bleeding Eagles green when they blow it. It is really entertaining. I can't quit you, Nick. If you stopped posting on this board, I would be lost without you.

Can't get enough of The Few. I knew this song would slay from the first moment we got the short clip last year.

Name one song from TGF's album that doesn't borrow from another genre of music.
