QUOTE(maccaz69 @ Aug 27 2010, 5:36 am) *

I like the new music yet do not think ed is innocent. Nor do I think he's guilty. Infact I really don't care much what happens behind the scenes with $$ so long as I get music I like.

I don't know enough about who owes who what but I know in Chad's last letter he basically says that for the last 10 yrs they have indeed just come in, played their instruments and left. Ed & his writers/managers etc developed almost all the lyrics & wrote the music for the others to play. So I guess if any profits were made prior to this arrangement starting and were not paid then he needs to pay it. If not then I don't think anything will come of this. Guess time will tell!

Funny, but I seem to remember saying something along these lines way back in the middle of this thread??

The band was on the ropes for years, a decade pretty much. Not just the past few as a lot of people thought.

Also, just a sidenote for most of you. There will be no settlement for 200-300k period. No chance.

Any settlement will be for at least 2 million dollars I think. Not that I profess to be a know it all or anything, but there is a lot more going on behind the scenes here than most people know, including myself.

To my knowledge, and don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure the suit is asking for approximately 5 million dollars at the moment.

No wonder Ed is selling everything but the kitchen sink, or is he selling that too?

He is for 25k but he drew a stick figure on the bottom so it's worth every penny.

correct. with a "settlement" no chance CCP could only collect 30% of one million as calculated in the summons. it would also be impossible to randomly agree to settle within that $100000 range.

Welcome back LiveRocks. I think the reply from ed's camp is surely being met with 'ok, if that's how you want to play', not that I expected ed's response to admit anything wrong. He's basically saying "prove it assholes - I am Live"

K, I'm now going to address every single comment made on this thread .....

But seriously, folks, my 2 cents is that the Fish guy made some great comments a few pages back. I hold out hope that Ed will come back into our orbit and at some point down the line, even if it's 10 years away, I will be slapping down money for a Live reunion show. Plenty of bands have declared some version of how they would set themselves on fire before reuniting with a specific band member or an entire band. Then time passes, conversations happen, wounds heal, and what seemed impossible becomes probable. I've lived long enough to know that sometimes you just never know.

Someone else (forgive me for not going back through 56 pages to see who it was) made the point about how, if Ed IS Live and CCP were just the equivalent of musicians for hire, why is he (the poster) not willing to drive up the street to see Ed's solo show but will travel long and far to see TGF? That resonates with me, as I bought my ticket for TGF show in Austin (90 miles away) without even having the album. The 2 songs I've heard are enough to have my panties in a twist about getting to see them.

Ed isn't scheduled to tour near me yet but at this point I don't see myself buying a ticket for him, even if it's a few miles away from where I live. The reason isn't even solely about the lawsuit or his attitude. In fact, if I take away those things, I'm still left with the fact that I don't really care for "Alive" and it would feel weird for him to sing Live songs when he's no longer in Live. One or two, sure, but a lot seems like a cop-out to me. Trying to have it both ways. I even have trouble watching the "LIVE at the Paradiso" video becuz it's depressing to think this band is no more. If Ed had put out an album that affected me the way "Throwing Copper" does, I'd be there in a heartbeat. But he didn't and I won't.

You know, I could spend about three days pouring over this thread... but I really don't want to torture myself like that.

Could someone (not named Nick) compress and summarize the court case for me? I'd really appreciate that.
