Request: New City/Wash the Blood Away Options

Hello,

I'm a long-time Live fan (since the early nineties). I used to be on SOY, Liveweb, etc. but never posted much.

I'm writing to see if, now that the band has broken up and older, rare material is beginning to surface, anyone has been able to track down New City or Wash the Blood Away. I know concert recordings of these songs exist because I heard them or know of people who did. I heard New City in concert at the Stone Pony on June 16, 1998. I was even given the setlist after the show. I was standing next to someone in the audience who told me he was recording the show. Unfortunately I've never been able to find that person since.

Here's the setlist, exactly as it appears on the paper the band used:

TSUFL was the big bang version, and it knocked our socks off. Really amazing in concert. New City was one of the weakest songs in the set but I'd still love to have it. It was a heavy, uptempo song.

Also Wash the Blood Away was played at CBGB's in NYC earlier that spring. A friend had been to that concert and recorded it but traded it away. I don't know if Wash the Blood Away is just the name of another song that we now know of, or if it is unique.

Well, these two songs are sort of he LIVE diehard fans holy grail of b-sides and they have yet to surface. Nice to see that setlist though and anymore details you can remember fo that show would be awesome to let us know about! I have heard New City was a song similar to Stage as far as the tempo which seems to be backed up by what you say here. WTBA is a song that no one knows anything of except that it does exist.

It was a great show... the Stone Pony is a pretty tiny venue and it was an intimate environment. Probably no more than 300 people were there all told. Of course at that time all the songs were new for us. WFG, Sun, Meltdown and Vine Street were highlights. New City was sort of like a cross between Still Aroused and Stage, but like I said it wasn't very good. TSUFL blew everyone away. I remember being so disappointed when I got TDTH and they for some reason changed the song completely, with funky keyboards and all.

There were other shows like this, btw. In 1996 Live played a bunch of shows showcasing new material. This included Cheetah and different versions of now familiar songs. They played Graze and it was quite different. They also played some songs that I don't know the name of and that haven't been heard of since.

i couldnt agree more about being disappointed when i first got tdth. was at that show and thought tsufl was the greatest song in the bunch. i think after the stone pony show i was the most excited about Live.

Those 1996 shows may be even more valuable now then some of the pre TDTH material! I would have to assume that some of the songs you heard were that you never heard afterwards were Mallrat, Photograph, and an early version of Freaks which they started to play on the TC tour. To think that there were early versions of songs like Graze along with the outtakes that we finally have a studio recording of played during those Chameleon shows intrigues me very much! Maybe one day a recording will show up!

It's funny you should mention this. In the late 90's I heard a 30 second sample unreleased track on Live-web. A few years later I contacted Jim and asked him about the track but he said the only track that he uploaded were a few 'Portion' [Adam Kowalczyk's band] songs.

Anyway, I only have vague memories about this song... Does anybody else have any idea?

best live show i have been to. big bang version is fantastic.
