And he hits the nail on the head with this quote: "Ed Kowalczyk has, from their earliest days, been the voice, the lyricist and the soul in front of what was, effectively, a backing band."

You're not making sense believing that. That's someone opinion and true live fans will debate that tooth & nail.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Aug 25 2010, 4:10 pm) *

DUDE, you just said one page ago that a guy hit the nail on the head saying that the rest of the band were a backing band, now you're saying to you they're not??

Either way, it is my belief that without the other 3 there would have been no Ed K to sing a song about the placenta and no one would have heard it to recognise him. Funky made the point before. If "Alive" was the absolute first thing Ed had done as an 18 year old with a debut, it would have done absolutely nothing and he'd be burried before anyone got the chance to know he existed. Without the combo we got there would be nothing for Ed to be the face of. You're right, MAYBE he would have made it, but it's really, really unlikely and the odds would have been heavily not in his favour.

Calm down there big guy!

I said he hit the nail on the head with the quote. Its the perception that most people hold of our beloved Live. It fit very well within the context of his review. To most people, CC&P were, effectively, a backing band.

I also reckon if Ed wasn't bald then he'd be even less recognisable. The amount of times I've just heard him refered to as "the bald guy from Live". They know the name of the band and the only characteristic they know about its singer is the state of his hairstyle. If he had a normal look the word bald would be removed and it would be just "the guy from Live" ... yeah, that's some face and notoriety!

Well, you didn't make that clear in any way with your original post. Nor did it seem that the reviewer was talking about it in a "from the view of the general public" kind of way.

See my previous post. People may not know their names, but they don't really discuss bands in that fashion.

QUOTE(thefunkyredcaboose @ Aug 25 2010, 4:23 pm) *

I don't get this either. no.gif

Live was a band and they wrote music together. The band was successful because of what they did together.

People may recognize the lead singers of bands the most, but you don't hear anyone intelligent saying "Man Bono and his backing band sure sounded great tonight!" or "I'm so glad Chris Cornell got his backing band back together!"

Of course not. But to the casual fan of Live, most would not have a clue if there was a substitute drummer, or bass player, or guitarist. But they sure would take notice if they didnt hear Ed's voice. Same with Bono/U2.

"Man, awesome Live show tonight!" - says the casual fan who just attended a Live show where Gracey was replaced, or Patrick was replaced, or Taylor was replaced.

"Dude, was that a cover band?" - says the casual fan who just attended a Live show where ED was replaced.

WTF would anyone put any stock into one person's opinion? Most of the time, these guys don't even listen to the album all the way through.. and again, it's just one random idiot's viewpoint. WTF?

QUOTE(jclive @ Aug 25 2010, 3:54 pm) *

Yes, they were a unit. A unit who's voice and soul (person) up front was Ed.

To look back and say whether or not either Ed or CC&P would have been successful w/o the other is simply a guess. Either could have easily been bigger than the other, or vice versa. They are all 4 very talented musicians. To say that the success of any of the 4 wouldnt have happened without them being a group, in my opinion, is a slap in the face of thier individual talents.

Listen, ... to say the other 3 lacked heart & soul is clearly delusional. They all have individual talents, I think all alone by themselves, they'd not be anyone. Ed is proving his solo career is a big yawn sell out to his grand vision. The other 3 chose to stick to their lifeboold roots and create rock music. They (C&C&P) know themselves on their own would amount to nothing, which is why TGF is now upon us. In musical art, voice and soul is simply not alone measured by spoken words...yes music is a creative energy art.

Its fine that you support Ed.

CCP are far from a backing band! Not that they needed to prove that but all you have to do is listen to TGF's music to see they are very good musicians. Compare them to Ed's backing band now and tell me who you would rather see play? His band is non-existant and cant even pull off the LIVE songs the way they were once played. Gracey is on a whole different level than that Ramy guy. Your opinions get worse and worse everytime you post here. I used to agree with you posts here, what happened to you? Is this the real jclive are did someone take over this name here? I can't figure it out????? huh.gif

No one said the other 3 lacked heart and soul. Read the quote. Nothing at all do do with heart and soul, or lack of.

Blah blah blah... Ed's career doesnt appeal to you. We all get that.

I also dont need you or anyone else to tell me that its fine for me to support Ed. I'm a big boy, I can make up my own mind about what I like and what I dont. And quite frankly, I'm upset that CC&P chose to work with Kevin Martin, as I do not care for his voice. I hope their next venture comes with a better lead singer.

Same one. I believe we live in the same town.

Its ok with me if we dont agree on some things. If you'd read thru my posts here, youd understand the point I was making about the 'backing band' quote. Of course I think they are better than Ed's new 'band.' I couldnt even tell you any of their names. Well, execpt for Ramy, and that's only because you guys bring him up so often. Either way, Ed's new band is not Live. I wouldnt expect them to be able to pull off Live songs the way they were once played. There are only 4 people who can do that. Which brings me back to the point I was making that to most people, this is not the case.

QUOTE(Merica @ Aug 25 2010, 3:42 pm) *

By the way, have I ever mentioned how awful In Your Light's lyrics are? I don't think I have.... THEY SUCK.

Also, the thing with SSs lyrics are, they might seem weird, but there's mystery and intrigue in there. I'd rather be confused for 10 minutes (SS) than bored for five seconds (Alive). There's very few decent lyrics in Alive. SS is interesting. Alive is just horrible, tacky, cliches God related bullshit. God. Lol. God. Lol. Magical man in the sky. Lol.

Also, In Your Light is the suckiest suck that ever sucked. Ever.

This seems to contradict your previous statement then when you agreed that CCP were "effectively a backing band" shrug.gif

Damn some of you are complete idiots. According to some of you, I should go back and rename all of my Live music as "Eddie K. and the 3 Lives".
