Its his music, his decisions, not ours. I dont care if the man decides to write a book of hymns and goes to work for the local mega-church. If I like his work, I'll listen to it. If not, then at least I still have the old stuff.

Dude, of course the old stuff is still there, but I can't understand why you don't want Ed to get his act together and create fucking kick ass music again - with the other boys.

So, you don't want a second TC, SS or TDTH? I don't get it.

So, are you saying is everyone must have the same opinion? While I do not agree that 'Alive' is Ed's best work since Throwing Copper, believe it or not some people may actually like it more than some of Live's earlier work. As shocking as it sounds, some people do not like 'Secret Samadhi' or 'The Distance to Here'. Because people like something different (which is against the norm) that doesn't mean that he has "very, very, clearly never listened" to the other music...it means that person just has different tastes and enjoys different albums.

SS and TDTH are my two favorite CD's ever but you are right. Believe it or not, but most people actually disliked SS and TDTH and thats one of the major reasons Live's popularity waned so much from the Throwing Cooper years to the year 2000. The reason it seems like everyone here loves SS and TDTH is because they do and most other live fans gave up on the band by 2000. I am not one of the those people, at all, but you are more than right in your point.

I hope the feedback he see's is a good kick in the ass to get back to pre V writing. Problem is I think that giant ego he's got will completely cushion the blow! sad.gif

Have you guys read the majority of the reviews from the SS days. SS was panned, most for the most part. I couldnt disagree more with those reviews. Dont think getting bad reviews is anything new to Ed, or Live, for that matter.

I think SS and TDTH were both panned (despite selling well) because they were so different from TC. The groups who maintained consistent success in the 90s (and now) were the ones who released similar album after similar album. Interestingly, Candlebox suffered a similar fate since their follow up to their debut album was much darker and ultimately less successful. I also enjoyed both bands for releasing different material each album.

With the declining album sales the band still hung on to its biggest fans though, and that is why there is often a lot of criticism of the post-TDTH albums. There was a steep decline with the release of V and it never got better because they lost the hardcore fans. The mainstream fans had already quit buying.

I could make an objective case for why SS and TDTH are much better crafted music than Alive. That doesn't mean people will enjoy them more, though.

Yep. You DO realise that that was exactly what I said? wink.gif

I'd take a second MJ over any of those. All these years and songs have passed, and its still by far my favorite.

And of course I'd like to see them together again. In fact, I think we will see them together again one day. But until then, its simply not up to me what other grown men choose to do with their time and talents. They owe me nothing.

As far as Ed 'getting his act together...' Maybe that's more semantics than anything. The way I see it, its just not up to me to decide what having his act together means to him. Maybe in Ed's mind he does have his act together, he's making lighter, happier music, the anger of his youth is softened, his heart is right with God, or whaterver he may be going through. I'm not saying that is where Ed is at the moment (because how would I know), but to some out there, that would be the exact definition of having their act together.

The mainstream fans quit buying once they figured out that SS was not TC #2. To many out there, Live has one relevant album, and that's it for them.

This is very true! I can even remember the first time I heard SS after seeing them in concert and just discovering the band. I actually had no clue what to think of SS other than it was weird and not that good actually. Some of the songs were just plain horrible to me. As I listened more to it though and I am glad I did I fell in love with that album and it still remains my favorite today! But my point is I can see how mainstream listeners gave it a few spins and thought the same I did at first and never gave it a chance again.

SS is a gem. Ed was at his best in the dark mysterious SS lyrics. Too bad he got full of himself and wanted to become a poster boy for the dull and silly. lol.gif

Switch the word 'best' with 'most f'd up stage' and we're on to something.

Ed was at his best when the drugs, women and money were flowing around him.

Once he cleaned up, the music went to: (fill in the blank as you please)

I remember I saw them in Detroit once while on tour for SS. They were on Howard Stern the day before and there were strippers on the show. The flew them out to Detroit with them and had them on stage for part of the show.

It's fact cause Ed explained it all to the audience.

Ah.. the life of a rock star.

Too bad he gave it all up to write terrible songs and lyrics.
