Ed doing a kid's thing is ok. I get it (yeah its now newsworthy here smile.gif ), but to sell down in order to expose his solo career, I am afraid is exactly what Chad Gracey said. I won't repeat it but it's becoming truer each day.

Sounded nice, but why not play your new stuff? one Live song and 2 new ones would have been a better sell.

It is sad that he had a 3 song set and played not one but TWO Live songs.

Lots of confidence in using that new material to sell CDs eh?

Dude leave him alone, he wants a fresh start and to move on from the past and just focus on his solo stuff now and .. oh

I snuck into Lolla on the last night after my kids went to bed. I took a picture of Ed's name on the master schedule. It was squeezed in and I think it was the only one on the board that did not have the times listed because the slot was so small.

SoundGarden was the main act on the last day. I like SoundGarden and it's sad for me to think that they were done, just got back together, and are larger then Live has been in years. Live wouldn't have a prayer to finishing out Lolla.

I assume he contacted the festival and asked for a slot and that's what they offered. I don't believe they would have contacted him to fill 15 minutes on the kids stage. I think the 15 was supposed to be a set up time and they gave it to him.

Thanks everyone for the info.

Hoodie: What were the highlights for you? I'm really into a lot of the bands at Lolla this year (Yeasayer, Mumford, Cribs, National) and am curious what you thought.

Here's some press I've found about Ed's set:

Heard a bit of Peanut Butter Wolf‘s set at Perry’s before seeing the end of Ed Kowalczyk‘s at Kidzapalooza. Closing with “Lightning Crashes”, from his old band Live, seemed an odd choice, with the lyrics of “her placenta falls to the floor” and all. I had the chance to interview Kowalczyk later on in the day inside the media area and that feature will be up in the near future.

http://rocknrollghost.com/2010/08/07/recap...of-lollapalooza

Ed Kowalczyk played three songs on the Kidz stage, two from his days as the frontman in Live, “Heaven” and “Lightning Crashes,” as well as “Grace,” the first single from his new solo record, “Alive.” Afterward, the singer sat down to talk about a number of topics, including the acrimonious dissolution of his former band, which was so nasty that guitarist Chad Taylor said, “I can’t ever see myself working with Ed, let alone ever being in the same room with him.”

“I don’t really want to get into the negativity surrounding that, and for me the door is always open for a reunion,” said Kowalczyk. “But going solo is about challenging myself and embracing growth as an artist.”

The North American leg of his solo tour kicks off in Philadelphia Sept. 16 at the Theatre of Living Arts, and Kowalczyk couldn’t be more thrilled to be starting it here.

“In Live, we adopted Philly as our hometown, and I have so many great memories of playing there,” he said. “It’s exciting to get back into small places like the TLA and create a more intimate atmosphere again with the fans. It’ll be a reconnection.”

http://www.delcotimes.com/articles/2010/08...33577941791.txt

I made my way to the Kidzapalooza stage to watch former Live frontman Eddie Kowalczyk (who will henceforth be referred to as “Eddie K,” since typing “Kowalczyk” might give me a headache), serenade a few hundred children and fans with three acoustic offerings.

Eddie K has recently been touring in support of his solo album, “Alive,” while Live is on hiatus. At this point, the relevance of Live, and Eddie K for that matter, is entirely based on nostalgia. Eddie K did not disappoint, proving he still has an impressive vocal range (leading me to deduce that he must not be a smoker) and concluding his short set with an acoustic version of Live’s bread-and-butter, “Lightning Crashes.”

As enjoyable as it was to see Eddie K as part of the festivities, all his set did was make me long to hear a full band performance. The fact that he was only at the festival to perform a 15-minute acoustic set on the kid’s stage was also curious. Is Kowalczyk simply at the point in his career where he enjoys doing that sort of thing for fun, or was he so desperate to be part of the festival that he would take any slot on any stage?

There was little time to ponder about the relevance of a largely forgotten 1990s frontman, because it was time to go back even further to the 1980s and see what Devo had to offer.

Interesting take on the whole 90s band at current festivals thing. Not about Ed specifically, but a lot applies, I think.

I didn't have tickets and only got in at the very end of the last day after my kids were in bed at the hotel.

I'd say the B & E was probably the highlight of it for me because security was tight.

What's a "B & E"?

Just found an audio recording of Ed's Kidapalooza set.

Considering that he just started his solo career, I think Ed is doing well. His overseas tours have been major successes, and most US venues that he played this year drew solid houses.

While he may never replicate the success he had with Live, he seems much happier doing his own thing.

Maybe,......I don't want to sound negative or anything,....I too much respect Ed as an artist,...

But for me personally this isn't it.....I haven't been touched by his album either....too bad.....hope his future ventures will do so...as he has an amazing voice......

Just watched Grace and LC......, and still not touched the heart of my soul...... tear.gif...

I can not hear the rock as I heard with LIVE or now TGF.....hope he will return to Rock and leave the Pop...

I think it's more likely Ed moves more toward a mostly acoustic sound than back to the rockier Live sound of the 90's. I personally would love a full band acoustic album with Ed. Seeing both Ed acoustic and Ed full band, his voice is much more powerful in an acoustic setting (even though, I think his voice is still great otherwise).

Too bad that you don't feel Ed's new stuff, but at least you still got plenty of older Live material and TGF that fits more of your tastes.
