In terms of chord progressions like you said SFBM was terrible. All I need, Here to stay (or whatever the title of the song) were almost identical. I've always thought this lack of creativity in the chord progressions was coming from the lack of musician skills by Chad T. and particularly Ed. SFBM and Alive show it well I think about Ed's abilities.

It is hard to find radio friendly rock that has interesting chord progressions, but by BOP the band was repeating itself and Ed hasn't really shaken that. TGF is doing things differently, even if the chord progressions aren't complex the riffs are back and that makes all the difference.

But now we know Chad didn't write any guitar parts for SFBM and wasn't trying, so we can absolve him of lots of blame. smile.gif

Just because CT said it doesn't mean it is true. Two sides to every story, etc.

When it is a group that works on something we see the difference. TGF is a good exemple. It doesn't have to be complex to be great and Tredecim is a great exemple. They even show some skills on it and the guitar parts in the chorus is something Live has never done ( or never did)

Having two guitarists with very different styles can really make a difference.

True, but I don't know why he'd lie about it. It's be a weird lie to tell, considering he was only making himself look bad for not contributing to the record.

I understand a man wanted to support his friends, but how could Chad stay in that band since 2004 (let's say) without even putting a single input to the music for 5 years. My only possible reason for him is security (money), but those years must had been hard for him.

I think his long recording blog explains it really well.

QUOTE(SJN1279 @ Aug 13 2010, 10:39 am) *

Curiously, does anyone think The Gracious Few's music matches early Live?

Beyond what the others had mentioned about the musical style, I would add that there is a difference in the lyrical concepts. Early Live, and really most of Live, dealt with what I'd guess I'd call higher level concepts. Challenging ways of thought and belief. Early TGF deals more in the every day existence.

This isn't to say one way is better than the other. When done well, as they both were, they really speak to the listener but on different levels.

Lyrically speaking, I'd say Tredecim is one of the first songs that come to mind that would fit with the conceptual thinking of early Live albums.

to add to what Merica said; This was per CT, Jim Wirt wrote most, if not all of the guitar progessions for SFBM

To be clear, he wrote the parts, not the chord progressions. The chords were Ed.

Can you elaborate on this a little, please? How do you know Ed wrote the chords?

He is listed as the songwriter isn't he? Unless he is just singing melodies into a tape recorder and having someone else figure out the guitar then he would be the one writing all the chord progressions. Seeing as he plays guitar that would be kind of odd.
