Actually, I felt bad about putting that last review up. Wouldn't feel right not putting it there either, as I am one who believes all sides should be shared and discussed on any issue.

Personally I enjoy Alive a lot, so it pains me to put up something that tears it apart.

No reason to feel bad about it. No matter what people think, their opinions are not facts. Nobody is right or wrong when talking about whether they like or dislike an album.

http://music.is-amazing.com/2010/07/8/ed-k...czyk-alive-2010

It’s certainly possible that the title of Ed Kowalczyk’s first solo album is a pun on his status as an former member of Live — he’s “A Live” on his own now — but given his fondness for sincerity, it’s unlikely. Kowalczyk doesn’t like to obscure his point, he likes to emphasize it, a sensibility that extends to his arrangements, which never rely on one guitar when five could do…which is all the better when he’s writing about big themes, which he does throughout 'Alive'. This isn’t a new wrinkle since Live always was one of U2’s most earnest disciples, making big music out of big issues, to the extent of treating the personal as a cataclysmic event. They lost a bit of that rock & roll messiah complex toward the end of their run, but Kowalczyk brings it back big time here and he’s the better for it, sounding reinvigorated, or at least louder, throughout the bulk of 'Alive'. This is the biggest, boldest music he’s made since 'Throwing Copper', lacking the overheated hard rock poses of Live’s albums immediately following that blockbuster, and feeling simpler than their otherwise admirable Live finale 'Songs from Black Mountain'. The big difference is, there aren’t skyscraping hooks here, only unfettered passion and sincerity, the eternal Kowalczyk trademarks that now get to burn brighter now that he’s on his own.

This article sounds as though he read the press release for the album and transcribed it from memory as opposed to actually listening to the album. Ed's biggest and boldest music since Throwing Copper? Really?

Please Nick, please tell me you're not so dumb as to take this guy seriously. Not when he seems to think the album is bigger and bolder than TDTH. Because that would be the saddest of sad jokes.

That review has been a cut & paste to other reviews on Alive. Other than what Itchy said. I'm not piling on.

I am posting reviews that I find. Unlike others, I try to keep reviews to one thread. There is no need to make a new topic for each individual review.

lol

Positive review for TGF = Nick thinking the reviewer has no credibility because he only posts reviews of things he likes.

Positive review for Ed = No matter how 'copy and pasted' or just flat out wrong the statements in the review are (bigger and bolder than TDTH??) then Nick has no problem whatsoever with the credibility wink.gif

Did I rave about the review or even comment on it? I just posted it.

I only commented on the TGF review thread when Hoodie asked me what I thought regarding it.

Point still stands. You can't say without Hoodie asking you what you thought that you'd not have that opinion. Likewise just because you didn't say you wet yourself over this review doesn't mean that if I asked you what you thought of it you wouldn't have said you thought it was fantastic. *shrugs*

I am REALLY looking forward to the reaction to the TGF reviews on this board. I know it will get good ones. And I'm also certain that it will get some not-so-good ones. Will be interesting to see how you guys interpret them.

Good Ed review = reviewer doesnt know what he/she is talking about
Bad Ed review = spot-on musical genius who knows exactly what they are talking about

Good TGF review = spot-on musical genius who knows exactly wha they are talking about.
Bad TGF review = coming soon to a FansofLive thread near you!

I can't speak for other TGF supporters, but I know I'd treat each review with unbias. I wasn't so fond of the all access one .. it was glowing, but I don't think it explained much. I don't think it was all that well written. Personally I don't put too much importance into them. If the review is not so good I'd be fine with that so long as they go into reasons why, like the bad Ed review did. You also gotta know any bad TGF review will have certain people squirming with delight as well like they are somehow justified in their dislike for them.
I think Ed's album deserves bad reviews, I don't mind good reviews if they aren't good for bullshit reasons .. lines like it's the greatest thing he's done since throwing copper or that Soul Whispers could even have been on Throwing Copper are just plain bullshit. Any mention about what a great drummer Ramy is I refuse to accept as anything other than complete bullshit from someone who has no idea.
But if someone can articulate reasonable reasons why they like itthen fair enough.

The bad Ed reviews have the majority of this board squirming with delight for the same reason you mention above.

Be prepared for the un-biased reviewer to see TGF for what they are - has-been rockers taking another stab at it.

I truly hope they are a success, but if I was a betting man, I wouldnt put any money on it.
